NFT: New Batman coming 2021; Affleck out

Ben in Tampa : 1/30/2019 9:42 pm
WB dates “The Batman” for June 2021

Ben Affleck out

Film will be about young Batman, but isn’t based on “Year One”

from all these superhero movies. It feels like just yesterday that Batman Begins came out. Not sure that another origin story works or could compare to that.
It seems that Batman is always up against the same group of villains.

The Joker the Ridler and the Penguin. He never catches any of them. Why does the Gotham police commissioner even bother to use the bat signal? The Caped Crusader does not seem to be very effective at law enforcement. (Grin)
Kevin Smith had an excellent idea on a podcast the other day

A Batman Beyond film with Michael Keaton as old Bruce Wayne mentoring. That is a fantastic idea.

Batman has appeared in 9 films.

The Joker has been the villain for 2 of them. Of which Joker died and was caught and put in Arkham

The Penguin was in 1 of them and died

The Riddler was in 1 of them and was caught and put in Arkham

Neither the Riddler or Penguin has appeared in over 24 years

The Joker last appeared as Batmans villain 10 years ago

We have also had Two Face twice, Catwoman twice, Bane, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, Ras Al Ghul, Doomsday, Lex Luthor & Steppenwolf as villains in tbe films.

You know, that notion came up with the guys who wrote the old Bat-man comics. They had to tone down the Joker, make him less lethal, to avoid this problem -- if he's so deadly, and Batman can't ever really defeat him, doesn't that undermine Batman?

My god Marvel can’t stop sharting out comic book movies. I am so sick of them I don’t even bother to watch them for free on streaming sites anymore.

But I guess i’m In the minority for these regurgitated plots w lesser characters. Ant man? Black panther? Aqua man? Is there a green pants man? There prob is in some obscure comic world.

I’m sorry it’s prob green pants boy. Or girl.

I'm ok with seeing these come to life, I had really yearned for these back then when I used to play Champions with my friends.

There is definitely a glut, but its like anything else, there is good and bad. Avoid the bad ones like Suicide Squad, Age of Ultron, watch the good ones - Infinity War and Batman Begins. Its not that hard.

As far as the peripheral characters getting movies - yes please. Give me more Deadpool, Antman, Captain Marvel. These are unexplored storylines and we dont have to watch Bruce Wayne's parents get shot again. Besides you're not going to get better than Batman Begins.

Bale sucked as Batman. He was a great young Bruce Wayne though. Michael Keaton was a great Batman, but not a great Bruce Wayne.

Ben Affleck was the best well rounded Bruce Wayne, and Batman, but didn't excel in either roll.

Venom wasn't terrible to me. It was really short though. I really hope they team him up with Spiderman to go after Carnage. That would be fabulous.
Aquaman is approaching $1.1 billion at the box office
Mike in NJ : 1/31/2019 9:02 am : link
The comic book movies aren't going anywhere.

I enjoy them, and am looking forward to seeing what Reeves can do with Batman. I wish that they would just keep all of the DC characters separate from each other, Batman has always been more interesting to me as a stand alone character rather than in the Justice League, but them trying to go the team up route again at some point is inevitable.

Maybe they will have learned from their mistakes and see that the standalone films (Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Nolan's Batman trilogy, and to a lesser extent Man of Steel) were where they hit the mark, and the team ups (Batman v Superman, Justice League) is where it goes to shit.
I always wanted a Mr. Freeze movie with Bryan Cranston
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/31/2019 10:07 am : link
I think you could definitely show him to be a complex character who used to be a brilliant scientist and is just trying to do everything in his power to save his wife. And then when he gets a little too wild, have Batman pop in and take him down.
TBH, I'm about ready for a "Batman Beyond" movie

Before they went forward with Batman Begins, there was supposedly a Batman Beyond movie in the works.

It would be amazing to see it come to life. I still love the cartoon, and the concept is awesome (young Batman, Bruce Wayne an old man mentoring him, interesting new villains, etc). Would be even better as a live TV series IMO

I agree, mostly. People that think hollywood doesn't have ideas anymore aren't paying attention. Hollywood is in business to make money, not make sure you are intellectually stimulated. There are a ton of great movies still being made they just aren't wide release because the cost to rent those screens is too high.

I'm sick of the comic book movies, but I realize their place is the industry. I just don't see them, its not a big deal.

If Bruce Wayne really wanted to help his city he would dump his money into it instead of getting his rocks off beating up thugs and weirdos.

That being said, WTF is WB doing with the DC Extended Universe?!

There are like 15 films in development, but only two will be released across all of 2018 and 2019. There's a solo Joker film being released in 2019 that will NOT be part of the DCEU!? They have been dicking around with the Superman franchise for over a decade.

Amazingly, Aquaman seems to be promising for a DCEU resurgence. Hopefully, Shazam will keep this momentum going.

Hopefully, what they are doing is putting some thought into it, and not rushing things out, which is what got them in trouble in the first place.

Just wish they would start fresh and scrape away the Zach Snyder films, use the rest, and go fro there.
