Hasn't played in a 3-4, so that's something to consider.

Yes, but this isn't a typical 3-4. We still play a one gap defense and also played with a lot of 4 linemen.

They are not letting Collins walk. Franchise him for 11 mil (roughly) sign a right tackle. We can move up in the draft for a center.
Sure seems like a ton
Shecky : 1/31/2019 8:26 am : link
Of DL available or is it just me?
Lot of good D players that would come on good short term contracts imo
I'm sure at least a couple of them
jeff57 : 1/31/2019 8:55 am : link
Lawrence and Clowney for example, will be franchised.
Paradis, Williams, Barr, and Mosley
WillVAB : 1/31/2019 8:55 am : link
Would be the guys I’d target with the hope of landing 2.

Definitely some good edge rushers available, but I'd bet Lawrence and Clowney are franchised. Some others like Ford and Smith might get tagged too.
Signing Free Agents is not the fix this team needs......
Simms11 : 1/31/2019 9:11 am : link
They need to continue to hit in the draft. Now if there’s a younger Free Agent with some potential, it might be worth signing him. The aging Free Agents seldom work out and the only reason I would consider them, is if the team was close to contending, to round out the roster. This team is not that close yet.
Pretty high ranking for Williams given
BlueLou'sBack : 1/31/2019 9:17 am : link
he's coming off knee surgery.

Preston Smith would be a nice addition.
How has Clowney
mattyblue : 1/31/2019 9:28 am : link
played? He was supposed to be crazy good coming out of college but I haven’t really heard of him doing too much.

He's an above average pass rusher but I would have expected more of him being paired with Watt. I certainly wouldn't pay him top tier money, and I don't expect him to give anyone a bargain. My prediction is he's franchised then they sign him long term to hedge against Watt falling off.
Ty Nsekhe
AcesUp : 1/31/2019 9:36 am : link
Is 2nd wave guy that I'd look at. Can start at RT or RG and is an improvement over Wheeler at backup LT. He's older so he won't break the bank but he's the perfect versatile short term vet for the right side while they build through the draft. I'd look at him as companion signing to Paradis or contingency if they miss on Williams.
Brandon Graham is way too high
Jay on the Island : 1/31/2019 9:38 am : link
He's ahead of Clowney, Dee Ford, and Frank Clark despite being 31 next season and only recorded 4 sacks in 16 games. Clark had 13 sacks last season alone. Graham has always been overrated. Two years ago he had 9 sacks which was his career high but every other season he only registered 5-6 sacks.

Maybe overrated by fans and the media, but (IIRC) he's never earned a huge deal despite playing a premium position.

Clowney's very good against the run. His pass rushing hasn't lived up to the lofty pre-draft hype, but he's a stud against the run.

If the plan is to draft a RT rather than spend big in free agency Ty Nsekhe would be a good insurance policy. I wanted Nsekhe last year but the skins tendered him. He can start at LT and RT and as you mentioned he wouldn't break the bank. I would rather sign a starting center in free agency, preferably Mitch Morse, and address RT in the draft. This is a strong class at center so the Giants could use one of their 4th-5th round picks on a G/C to groom behind Morse. I would like to see the Giants add 1-2 offensive tackles, a guard, and a center this offseason.

Mosley will be very expensive but the Giants could release Ogletree to create the necessary cap room.

Jay on the Island : 1/31/2019 9:48 am : link
C Mitch Morse
LB Za'darius Smith

With or without Collins and Brown returning?

I like the list, though I'd rather see D Williams at RT (OC in the draft) and Fowler as an ER. Smith is better, but I'm not sure we can afford him unless they move on from Vernon.

I’d cut Vernon instead.
I'm usually
mittenedman : 1/31/2019 10:17 am : link
wary of spending on UFA's but there are lots of options at team needs. (Offensive Tackle, Edge Rusher, Free Safety).

Speaking of S - I'm always on board with re-signing good draft picks to 2nd contracts. I like homegrown talent. Collins is a FA. Team captain. But you see a Tyrann Mathieu sitting there. Plays the same position. All Pro in Bettcher's system. Better coverage ability. You (probably) don't want to allocate so much $$$ at S to sign both.

One option is signing Honey Badger at SS and re-signing Collins to play $LB next to Ogletree. Or bring back Fewell's vaunted Bison Package: base nickel/3 S's (Phillips, Grant & Rolle).

I like the list, though I'd rather see D Williams at RT (OC in the draft) and Fowler as an ER. Smith is better, but I'm not sure we can afford him unless they move on from Vernon.

I would release Vernon, Ogletree, Barwin, Stewart, and Ellison. Ban Curtis Riley from the building and block his number.
Re-sign Jamon Brown 2-3 years, Mario Edwards 2 years, Josh Mauro 1 year, BW Webb 1 year, Scott Simonson 1 year vet min
Sign ERFA's Rosas, Halapio, Penny
Tender Corey Coleman - lowest tender, Antonio Hamilton - lowest tender.

Landon Collins is a tough call. If he is willing to sign for 7-8 million per season then I would re-sign him but I think he gets more than that I and I would let him walk.

In the draft I would find the Giants RT in round 2. There will be plenty of players there that could very well be the BPA. In order of preference Andre Dillard, David Edwards, Dalton Risner, Kaleb MCGary, Yodny Cajuste. Also I would look to add a developmental OL in rounds 4-5. A few intriguing OL who could be available there are OT Olisaemeka Udoh, G Dominique Biggs, OT Yosuah Nijman, C Sam Mustipher. This is a strong center class so the Giants should use one of their mid round picks on a center that can also play guard.
I’m hoping for RT Williams
rasbutant : 1/31/2019 12:03 pm : link
Should be in the 8-9 mil range

Collins - franchise him if you have too
Aldrick Rosa - ERFA - explore long term contract
RG Brown - hopefully for less then Omameh contract was for
Josh Mauro - 1mil
B W Webb - 1mil
Latimer - 1 mil

I would be tempted at Ansah if under 10mil
Cole Beasley - 3mil max
Tyrell Williams WR - 5-6mil max will probably get 9mil
CJ Mosley - 10mil - I want him but some cuts would have to be made to afford him.
JaWuan James if Williams can’t be had
Jason Verrett - no idea what he would cost, loved him coming out of college, been very injury prone. Risky. Contract would need to reflect that.
Deone Bucannon - Bletcher ties makes him attractive, but 8 mil per year will be hard to afford.
Preston Smith if spotrac is right about 11 mil/yr. would have to consider it.
Frank Clark I don’t believe spotrac estimate of 12 mil but if true would have to consider it.
Za’darius Smith - again if around 10mil you have to consider it.
I would find out what Adrian Amos would cost.
Kelvin Benjamin - look into it if cheap. 1-2 mil.

Corey Coleman - RFA

Jon Halapio - EFRA

Elijhea Penny - ERFA
I wouldn't give Beasley more than the vet min

A good number of good DL in this draft (i think?) too which may hamper them from getting big deals
The ER’s are going to be too expensive
WillVAB : 1/31/2019 2:44 pm : link
Probably in the 15-20 mil per range for each one. There’s too many teams flush with cash to pay it.

The Giants should use FA to improve other areas that will be considerably cheaper even if they overpay.
