Per Rapsheet on Twitter. Good I'm very happy for him. No way did Mayfield deserve it over Saquon.
I was completely against taking a RB, but Saquon was everything everybody said and more. He was unreal. Should be fun watching Saquon, Odell, Shep & Engram with a young QB.
Don't think anybody ever said it was the worst pick in the draft. He was clearly the best player. It's just that you can find RBs in later rounds much easier then you can find QBs.

Usually, yes..But You cant find a Jim Brown anywhere in the draft. One of a kind
I thought it was this one, but now that I'm looking it up I think the Associated Press is the official one.

Barkley recorded 91 receptions in 2018, the most by a rookie running back in league history, shattering the previous standard set by Bush in 2006.

Love how they exaggerate, the record was 88. I wouldn't exactly call catching 3 more balls shattering the record.
Sometimes the homerism is so extreme here.
Mayfield set the rookie record for touchdown passes not starting the first 3 games.
QB is a way harder position too. There is a reason pretty much every running back drafted in the top 10 start immediately and most QBs do not. There is a legitimate point to vote for either one.
Shockey won this same award, not the real Rookie of the Year but he Pepsi Rookie of the year.
Shockey also won the Pepsi award but Portis was ROY that year

But I read on BBI that's a negative because they were all checkdowns...
;)
Correct.

Woke up to news that I won the 2018 @pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Award! Now, how to I bring this back to NY?

Fortunately the organizational goal of the draft is to win this bullshit fan award, and not build a winning team...
Congrats.
Congrats.
I think the fans vote for the Pepsi one.
Good news for Giants fans?
Nah...chance to be bitter and mock other fans!!! Yay!!!
Welcome to bbi big bitching interactive

Fortunately there are 31 other teams in the NFL, so rather then going through chinese water torture being a Giants fan, you can root for another team!
It's literally an internet poll.

I can still root for the Giants without living in the fantasy world that many of their fans currently choose to be in.
But I could have sworn there was someone here who popped onto every single Barkley thread pre-draft last year claiming that SB couldn't break tackles.
Anyone remember which poster that was?
But he's only the 3rd best RB in the league, behind Gurley (1st allpro)and Girlhitter (2nd allpro).
Fan since your freshman year at PSU. You helped bring respect back to PSU, now you'll bring it back to the Giants too.
If it was a team award for best rookie class, IMO the Colts run away with it with two OL and an LB. Although the Giants and Browns and Denver all had great classes.

What fantasy? The best player in the class is on the Giants. Your argument is they should have taken a QB. Well the best QB went #1. And if you're rebuttal is we need to wait and see how Darnold & co. play out, you'll just prove that your ridiculously negative attitude is over the top. Because i can rebuttal and say the same exact thing for this regime & their plans on how to build the roster.

he won because he wore a pepsi blue sports coat.
And where is the Coke, McDonalds, Honda ROTY?
Hell, here's an idea, where the fuck is the NFL ROTY?
Such fucking bullshit with all this branding... makes me want to vomit.
incredible . The over the top TD's from a yard or two out
were unreal .We will see many of those ..

Yes, that's EXACTLY why the drafted the person who was regarded - bar none - as the most talented player in the entire draft.

You always whine that the team should stockpile talent, even if they feel they are "stacked" at a certain position. Build on a strength, you have said more than once. Draft for talent over need, you have said more than once.
Well, they drafted the player universally regarded as the best player, and you are still bitching they didn't take a QB.
Taking a QB would have been drafting for need instead of BPA, which is exactly why you preach against...
And they passed up on a great opportunity to do that. And now they're looking at a much poorer QB draft, and an even more severe quarterback hole.
You make me sick. Just STFU.

"Giants fans are smarter than the average NFL fan."
Hell, here's an idea, where the fuck is the NFL ROTY?
It gets announced at the awards dinner before the super bowl.
This is just a fan award.
Step back and think about that, as a Giants fan.
And lets not drag yours and anyone else's subconscious on BBI into a thread please...ever
The guy is likely going to be the AP Rookie of the Year. He's had a HISTORIC rookie season. Something only done twice before.
At this point, how can anybody still be complaining about this pick?
We are rebuilding. He is part of the solution. A big part of it. He is the future of this team.
This sounds like being a big fan!
Nothing there about saying Barkley is a good player - in fact, seems like he's just a reason the team is not going to win.
Really could have just been a straightforward thread about Saquon having a great year.

You really are delicate.
But the Pepsi People's Choice Award brought to you by what's essentially a clickbait internet survey isn't exactly an honor.
Why is a vote by a bunch of sportswriters any more honorable?

Because conceivably more thought is put into the vote than clicking a name between watching Baby Shark remixes and Frye Festival memes?

If you say so. Maybe you can check out which exemplary sportswriters vote for these things. Agendas, lack of football comprehension, and peer pressure abound among many of them.

You can use this to broadly discredit anything. Which leaves what? Damn sure not fan opinion.
