Couldn't understand how anyone could consider Hacksaw Ridge a comedy at first.

Now, Heartbreak Ridge I don't think is a flat out drama or comedy. Sort of like Full Metal Jacket. Hilarious for the boot camp portion, but kind of forgotten about after that. Half comedy, half drama/action.

The invasion of Grenada was actually done by the US Army but they didn’t want to be attached to the movie for PR reasons (Highway’s character was a drinker, divorced, and used fowl language.) The Marine Corps agreed to be involved because they were going to use the movie to promote Toys for Tots but then they saw the final cut and decided otherwise. Eastwood must be a funny dude in-person because he always injects subtle humor in the movies he directs and none of them were supposed to be funny.

The Marines were part of the invasion force as well. What you're referring to is the rescue of the American medical students. In the film, Gunny Highway's platoon does that. In reality, it was elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment who rescued them.

I wrote it incorrectly. A lot of the major scenes in the movie were the Army in reality (bulldozer, medical school, credit card air strike) but I didn’t mean to take away from the other military branches involved. It was more about the politics behind the making of Heartbreak Ridge.

I use that line often with the kids I coach in hockey.

They'll come off the ice pissed off and say "coach, that kid used his/her hand and pulled the puck out of the crease" or "that kid is slashing me with their stick when I'm in front of the net" or something - it's always something and I say:
