NFT: Knicks Chat- Worst team in the NBA

DanMetroMan : 1/31/2019 9:32 am
Horrendous as always.

Luka didn't even have one of his huge games and yet put up 16 8 and 5. Damn he's good. Hawks fans can't be happy (and that's with Young having a very nice rookie season)

DSJ was damn good

-Would like to see Robinson gain confidence with the ball. I know he's never going to be a big scorer but at times I think he should be taking the shot vs. being scared to do so.

- Hadn't noticed how well Markkanen has played, 17, 8 and a block on the season

-Harden is probably the MVP favorite but would be fun to see Jokic swoop in and win.

Dave Joerger is doing a very impressive job in Sac. Their younger players are giving quality minures.

Jokic is truly awesome
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/31/2019 11:06 am : link
I'd rank him 3rd in the MVP race behind Harden and Giannis, but he is just a special offensive player. I still think he'd get exposed defensively in a playoff series so I'd still rank him closer to 10th than 5th on the "best player" rankings. But as far as regular season MVP, very few have a better argument.

Zion is special. If he stays healthy, I would be surprised if he wasn't atleast as good as Clippers Blake Griffin with a decent chance at being a legendary Barkley/Kemp hybrid.
Zion reminds me of Shawn Kemp
Dave in PA : 1/31/2019 11:06 am : link
The good Kemp. Still, Zion seems somewhat risky since he’s so overwhelmingly physically gifted and relies on that more than “skill”, IMO. If Zion was 6’10 I would feel better about his game
Is anyone still questioning whether

Davis vs Zion
Csonka : 1/31/2019 11:12 am : link
What we'd have to give up to get Davis is ridiculous.
Davis is making $27 mil per and becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2 years. He'll make $40 million per year then.

If you get #1 and get Zion, he's yours for like $9 million per and under control for 4 years. And you keep your other assets like Knox and KP. There's no way you trade this pick if you get one of the top 3.
God, I hate Zion now because he's
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/31/2019 11:12 am : link
Blue Devil, but I'll love him in a NY minute if he's a Knick.

Its why that proposed trade of Matthews/ DSJ for Frank and Hardaway was hilarious. So the Mavs would be downgrading both players and taking on more money? Why on earth would they do that?

And I get Smith has flaws. But Frank hasn't flashed 1/100th of his offensive ability....

Don't tell the Posting and Toasting writers, who get VERY angry at anyone who suggests Frenchy is horrendous on offense.

Anyway, elsewhere in the association....Grayson Allen is still a piece of shit.

I could see the Knicks getting cold feet on a Davis deal if they actually win the Zion sweepstakes. Not saying they should, but right now it's just a draft pick - a 14 percent chance at a player. If they meet with Zion and work him out, he may win them over.
Danny Ainge worried about the Knicks...

The most pressing question for Boston is whether they could acquire Davis without including Jayson Tatum in the deal. If the Celtics get the chance, Boston will be able to offer any or all of: Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier (though Rozier would have to agree to a sign-and-trade, raising thorny cap complications)

wow! The Celtics would really be generous enough to offer Hayward and Smart? How big of them! What a bunch of crap. This is just Lowe carrying the water for Ainge/Zarren.

Only way I see the Celtics able to offer a competitive package without Tatum is if the Memphis pick ends up at #9 and the Kings pick ends up in the 2-4 range.
another thing from that article
nygiants16 : 1/31/2019 11:55 am : link
if boston does indeed tell the pelicans to wait and offer tatum than at the end of the year take tatum off the table they are risking relationships around the league...

I guess ya can't blame Boston for feeling entitled...
bceagle05 : 1/31/2019 12:12 pm : link
Kevin Garnett was given to them by Kevin McHale, multiple premium picks were given to them by the Nets - they've had a charmed existence.

Nice to see some panic setting in up there though. That dynasty everyone seemed so certain of has some serious question marks.

Celtics aren't landing Davis without Tatum. Simple as that. Their other pieces simply aren't that valuable no matter how much spin they want to put on it. Lottery protected LAC pick? Top 8 protected Memphis pick? lolz #Knicks

Those are the names the Pelicans should be (and most likely are) targeting. What the heck are they gonna do with the likes of Jaylen Brown or Lonzo Ball?

hitdog42 : 1/31/2019 12:41 pm : link
that Jaylen Brown will be a very good player- he doesnt suit the kyrie iso ball offense. but last postseason he showed he is an excellent player- imo better than the garbage the lakers are offering. a better piece than knox- obviously not as good as tatum, the top pick, or if KP showed he were healthy and willing to commit to an extension.

I completely agree.
Plus you still have pieces to move for a backcourt and cap space if you can move THR.
But let's be honest does anyone believe they won't mess this thing up?

Nothing earth shattering but that @wojespn report makes perfect sense. Zero incentive for the Pelicans to deal Davis to the Lakers in-season (even if that's where he ends up).

Possibly but he simply hasn't taken a major step forward and this is now year 3. Everyone said year 2 would be a huge difference and that didn't happen (much like Ingram in fact). PER is down, WS/48 is down, shooting is down and career 67% from the line for a 6'7 kid isn't ideal. Trust me here, if Knox only shows this much in year 3, I'll be saying the same things.

that Woj/Lowe article I think I'd be willing to call Davis' bluff if I were most teams in the NBA. The offer the Lakers are giving up is pure garbage and the Pelicans won't want to deal Davis too them for 1) creating this circus and 2) the offer sucks. If the only way Davis becomes a Laker is through free agency that doesn't happen until a year and a half from now, when Lebron is in his age 36 season. In that scenario the Lakers can't dish out big contracts this coming off season as they would need the money to afford Davis as a free agent the next year. Davis would have to be a moron to turn down all other overtures to sign long term in order to team up with a 36 year old Lebron and Kyle Kuzma and pretty much nothing else.

Agree with this and what Enzo said earlier. If Boston doesn’t include Tatum, I don’t see this great package everyone keeps referencing. Unless the Sac pick turns into the 2nd or 3rd overall pick.

But if I’m the Pelicans I would take the 4 young Lakers guys and multiple unprotected firsts over a Celtics package without Tatum. Especially since any player the Celtics draft cannot be traded until August/ September. Do they really want drag out that process?
If the Pels take a deal from the Cs
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/31/2019 1:20 pm : link
that doesn't include Tatum, the NBA needs to step in.
Seems like the Knicks can offer the best return
Chris684 : 1/31/2019 1:37 pm : link
If I'm the Knicks, to do this I need one of the 3 objectives below and I make the move.

Davis while keeping KP.

Davis while keeping the 2019 1st.

Davis while opening up 2 max slots in free agency.

Uhhh KP, you're on the Knicks. This is news to you? We've been the laughing stock of sports since the Browns actually won some games this year.
Does KP forget that we might be losing

Steve in Greenwich : 1/31/2019 1:54 pm : link
really not at all concerned with how Porzingis feels about anything. Similar to what Dan was talking about yesterday, I don't think there is a shot in hell he turns down an extension this off season and plays on a one year qualifying offer coming off of a major injury and multiple injury plagued seasons to start his career. Whether he buys into whats going on or not, its really trivial until he is a full blown free agent who can control his own destiny.
the team sucks right now.
Enzo : 1/31/2019 1:54 pm : link
There's no arguing that. If he wants to gamble and wait a year to be unrestricted - he certainly has that option.

umm knox, trier, robinson all are long term pieces, not to mention a top pick coking and if kp was not such a baby a max slot he can recruit someone...

Would it be worthwhile to trade every single resource we have here for AD as long as you’re freeing up enough cap space for 2 max slots and roster room? Who cares if we have nothing left after getting AD because two max deals along with AD makes everything better. No?

Porzingis acts like a top 10 NBA player
Chris684 : 1/31/2019 1:59 pm : link
when he's just not there yet.

I think that's the turn off.

Whether it was Carmelo in his ear, or whatever happened to him I don't know but he is the Matt Harvey of the Knicks.

I get he's dealt with the Knicks losing org., but at this point now all he has to do is get healthy and in all likelihood come back to a totally revamped and hopefully much better team.

I also wish Phil traded him before he left.

I’ll give you Knox. But are you really confident in any of the other guys being good nba starters or atleast contributors on a good team?

Which reminds me- Fizdale was hired in part because of his player development skills. Have you really seen any legit positive growth/ strides in the young guys this season?

some other good news
Enzo : 1/31/2019 2:03 pm : link
If he does accept the qualifying offer, he has no-trade protection. In other words, if he plays next season on the qualifying offer he's as good as gone and you don't get anything for him. Get ready for this staring contest to play itself out over the next few months...

In the end, if the Knicks offer the max I think he stays. He can always try to force a trade later on like everyone else does. If the Knicks try to get cute with the contract, all bets are off.
