Would you be happy with Quinnen Williams at #6?

Jim in Forest Hills : 2/2/2019 9:27 am
Especially if he is BPA assuming the ERs are gone. Giants could use help everywhere although the DL seems to have decent talent on it.

If he's Fletcher Cox 2.0, I'd be happy, but he is one of the few that really can change the game in crunch time.

I often feel like the DT(or 5T) position is devalued because the Giants find talent there rds 2-4 quite often.

Is Williams that kind of game changer? Cartwheels for Williams at 6?
Absolutely.
Diver_Down : 2/2/2019 9:30 am : link
I want the BPA at #6 so long as the last name is Williams.

Greedy, Quinnen, or Jonah.
If my guys Jim and diver
Big Blue '56 : 2/2/2019 9:36 am : link
are ok with it, count me in...👍
I think he's the best player in the Draft
Anakim : 2/2/2019 9:37 am : link
So yes
Yep, I expect him to go top 5
Ssanders9816 : 2/2/2019 9:37 am : link
But depending on who else is available Id be happy. Probably would take a couple teams leapfroging the Giants for QBs though. But that also means other talent may be available too.

I don't se Jonah as a top 6, He is not going to be Nelson.

as for Williams...yep he would be a steal. HE is a top 3 player.
Would I be happy?

I would run through the streets naked if we ended up with Williams at 6. Theres no way hes falling to 6, so its moot. He's a top 3 pick
Dave Te in his podcast said Arizona is not crazy about Bosa
robbieballs2003 : 2/2/2019 9:40 am : link
And Williams could go number 1 overall. I don't always agree with his evaluation or opinion on players but he is pretty much on point when making comments like that. He definitely hears things.
Yes
GiantJake : 2/2/2019 9:40 am : link
Thank you for asking.
I wouldnt expect him him to last beyond 2nd overall to SF
Defenderdawg : 2/2/2019 9:43 am : link
In fact you could see Bosa, Williams, Allen, Gary, maybe event White gone by the sixth pick, so if you dont like the QBs...

When it comes to Jonah, he is a technician. He needs to get stronger, but he doesn't have to learn how to play at the next level. He would be a Day 1 starter at RT and should be able to replace Solder in 2 years.

Greedy is a need as we won't have Jenkins but for another year.

Quinnen is definitely Top 3. Teams looking for QB will have to trade up to kick Quinnen down the line. I would be shocked if he is still available at #6.

If as expected there is an early focus on Edge rushers, I don't want us to pick the 4th highest rated Edge rusher if the #1 rated CB/OL is sitting there.
If he's what they say
idiotsavant : 2/2/2019 9:52 am : link
Shiznit Yizess.

That would be ideal.

Then go best LB in #2.

Either true pass defending ILB or the DE/OLB.
Great player not going to lie.
Carl in CT : 2/2/2019 9:53 am : link
But is he an impact player? I always want a star early. If he is a pro bowl DT then ok
I think Bosa and Allen will precede Williams in the draft
Jim in Forest Hills : 2/2/2019 9:53 am : link
Edge rushers are harder to find and those guys are dynamic. Ferrell is a wildcard here.

SF has tons of talent like Williams, would they draft another?

I think the Jets would also shy away after Leonard Williams, Wilkerson. I think the Jets want an ER badly.

AZ take QUinnen #1?

I think OAK and TB with McCoy retiring likeliest places but I see one of those teams trading out to a bidder wanting to beat the Giants.

This is what Im saying, he'd have to be Cox 2.0 to justify this IMO. Is he?
Fans have biases
idiotsavant : 2/2/2019 9:59 am : link
It's often "good enough" when talking about OL and DL and "never enough" when taking about WRs and such.

I say, build great units.

If there's a top 3 or 4 overall DT playing next to Hill and Tomlinson (or Hill + x on pass rush downs), we become a unique team from day one.

See, Rams.
If all goes well we likely will not be picking this high again for
Pan-handler : 2/2/2019 10:00 am : link
Awhile. We may or may not as fans agree with this but this is what weve heard from previous reports (from last year) is front office thinking. The offense is loaded and just needs to stabilize under the new offensive system and a couple pieces for OL. Manning though is close to 40 already and on the last year of his contract. If you can get Haskins or Lock (if the eval is high enough) at #6 you do it. Murray though intriguing just doesnt have the bulk/height for what the Giants almost always tend to shoot for in a high pick QB.

This class is not as strong as last years for sure but those 2 guys have upsides at least close to some of last years guys.
He isnt getting to 6
Sammo85 : 2/2/2019 10:05 am : link
He will go top 5.

I think 4 is his floor. I have trouble seeing Mayock and Gruden passing on him if hes there.
Yes...
sxdxca : 2/2/2019 10:09 am : link
He is my favorite player in the draft, has HOF potential. I hope Giants get him.

Hopefully he matures.
Is this a joke?
giantstock : 2/2/2019 10:29 am : link
Everything I've read no way he is going as late as 6.
I'd be extremely happy. He'd be great as a 3-4 de. He has the power
Ira : 2/2/2019 10:36 am : link
to stop the run and push the pocket and he can penetrate and get pressure on the qb. The only way he'll be there at 6 is if multiple teams trade up ahead of us to get a qb.
Tough spot
GiantGrit : 2/2/2019 10:39 am : link
Because there is no way they can sell Haskins being the "BPA" at 6 when some of these defensive guys are going to be available. I actually like Haskins too. Quinnen Williams? I'd be happy...I think Devin White is going to be an all-pro, i want him on the Giants badly.
I'd be disappointed
JonC : 2/2/2019 10:39 am : link
Picking this high, I want a star at a position we design scheme around. DT isn't it especially running considerable number of 3-4 looks, and I don't see him as a NT.

Unfortunately, the edge rusher might not be there and I do think some of them are overrated.

At that point, take the consensus #1 CB or perhaps Devin White. Lord knows we could use either moving forward.
White at ILB is a similar lack of impact
JonC : 2/2/2019 10:58 am : link
3-4 ILBs aren't really an impact position, although DG clearly favored it in trading for AO.
and I think the view that DG undervalues CBs

has some weight to it.

See thats the rub. Both DT and ILB, I think The Giants will have a shot at one of Williams and White. Good chance they are BPA. But are they difference makers because of the nature of their position.

I agree. I know its repeated often here each year

Also, factor in the cost of their potential second NFL contract, and they'd better be impact players. I'd look elsewhere and try to trade down.

This is the problem. He said the Clemson offense "was nothing special."
Will they shake hands and make up when we have them both on the Giants?
Quinnen Williams...
M.S. : 2/2/2019 12:02 pm : link

...every time I watch this man-child play I see the same two things:

(1) An amazing swim move -- sometimes a double or triple swim move -- that gets him into the backfield to fuck someone up big time;

(2) A guy who often pops straight up out of his stance when the ball is snapped, and while he gets away with it in college, I don't know if that will hurt him in the pros?
BPA on defensive side of ball.
TMS : 2/2/2019 12:39 pm : link
Then fill in the rest of the defense and offense later in the draft or FA. Do that as well as we did last year and we can compete next season. Haskins is too inexperienced with only one year in college. He is not that athletic or quick for what NFL defenses will throw at him, if gets to [play at all next year. ELI will be the starter. Haskins should go back to school. Murray could be like Michael Vick, with his skill set, if Shurmur can build an offense around him to include OBJ, Barkley,Ingram and Shepard. Get us a defense and we will be ready to roll. A QB later (not at #6 )in the draft is fine too if one is there. MO
lightenup will run naked through the streets.

Like who?
JonC - I wonder if you recall our discussion about JJ Watt some
BlueLou'sBack : 2/2/2019 10:36 pm : link
years ago when the Giants were committed to the 4-3 base D. I loved him and said the Giants should make the move up to get him if ha got past 7 or 8, which was considered likely at that time.

You espoused the same "positional value" crap then as you are now (no disrespect intended) and called Watt "a 5-tech DT/DE that doesn't fit the Giants' 4-3 D." Turns out Watt would have made a great DT or DE in any forking scheme, and the Giants' hung out at wherever the picked (15?) and got Prince Amuka-fuck-amara.

I haven't looked at Williams film yet but sounds like he's the closest thing to JJ Watt since Watt, just a bad ass DL who's probably scheme diverse.

Screw "positional" value, because in that case we'd never have taken Saquon. Watt or Oliver strike me as likely great picks at 6 if DG doesn't buy in (or they're gone) to Haskins or Lock.

This team needs top talent everywhere except for another star skills player (not QB) or cornerback at pick #6.
I think Josh Allen is a better player
Rjanyg : 2/2/2019 10:41 pm : link
But Q is right behind him
Some fans conflate size with inability to rush dt
idiotsavant : 2/3/2019 9:22 am : link
But.... obviously at that rank a 300lber can perform the rush DT as well as other DT duties otherwise he wouldn't be ranked that high.

Supposedly Oliver's get off is so sick it makes up for his smaller stature and he has unusual leverage game.

But...Q . ...by all means. And a host of DE and DT and LB lower down.

Multiple ability gives Betch a crazy ability and tool bag. Now you'd need some ilb that get it as well
