NFT: Grizzlies @ Knicks - 1:00 PM on MSG

Anakim : 2/3/2019 10:54 am
So it begins. A new era. DSJ will play despite not getting any practice with his new team (because of our dearth at PG).

Zion looked mighty good yesterday.

Joakim Noah returns.

IDK what else. Trade Deadline is rapidly approaching and Kanter keeps being an attention whore.
I want to see some movement with these players for picks

Improve his stock and become a better trade chip for the Knicks to use for AD trade package.
Here is my porzinigis view
GMEN46 : 2/3/2019 11:39 am : link
He thought he was a G-d and had all this power. His brother kept telling him your the man every day and you have all the power. The Knicks got sick of this, which I wouldas well. Knicks felt strongly enough about Dallas offer and wanted to get it done before it got public that they were moving him. I really donít think offers from other teams would have been much better. They got rid of all of the contracts, got a lottery pick and 2 additional first rounders. The other key thing is Dallas has strong belief they can resign him. Other teams would not have given up as much aka the pelicans with the uncertainty of resigning him. Plus there were only handful of teams that could take on lee and Hardaway together and send back expirings. So the reality is this was the best deal out there. A bold contrarian View. At the end of the day he thought he was the man even though he has done nothing and knicks got sick of it. Itís like when a millennial comes to intern at your company and expects to be the ceo by the end of the internship and are surprised when they are offered the position.

Anyway here is my bold KP prediction. He is acting like he is cool with this whole thing, but he is in complete shock that they actually traded him and it has started setting in that he ruined this great opportunity in NY. He now goes to Dallas where itís a huge football city and a reasonable basketball city, but at the end of the day no one really cares in Dallas. Even losing in New York he was the future king of the city and he will miss it. His brother and family are to blame for all of this. Knicks will have a big offseason and no one will care in NY about KP and his nba irrelevancy will eat away at him. He will end up firing his brother and hire a new agent. He will try to find a way back to NY via knicks or the nets. He will apologize for being a spoiled brat.

While I agree I hope he plays well for that reason I am on the fence. Trading for AD would completely gut our team of all players including our first this year and multiple years outside of maybe Robinson and whoever else we can sign after KD and Irving. Would we be a better team with AD and no depth or keeping these young kidd and continuing to let them develop? I'm not sure. I am a big fan of AD amd would love him on this team but at what cost? That is the question.
Kanter on DeAndre mentoring Robinson:
Del Shofner : 2/3/2019 11:48 am : link
Kanter, who is hoping to get traded, said Friday night he could understand losing playing time to younger guys, but not to Jordan.

ďI think itís a little disrespectful,Ē he said. ďOnly reason Iím not playing is they think Iím old. Now they bring in more old guys. I just feel a little disrespected.Ē

Bottom line on Kanter is that he should just shut up

No one held a gun to his head when he opted to pick up the 18 million dollar player option

I agree, I like the upside of alot of our younger players. Although I think I'd give them all up with the draft picks if we can secure AD, Durant and Kyrie.

If we can sign both Durant and Kyrie to Max contracts, I'd rather not spend all those resources on just AD alone.

Itís exciting times for the Knicks. Letís hope they donít fuck it up by signing Kemba and Tobias and letting Jordan/Matthews lead us to the 6th pick. They both need to go, Kanter too. First step is to secure a top two pick and away we go!!

Samiam : 2/3/2019 12:24 pm : link
The odds are pretty heavy that the Knicks will NOT have the first pick in the draft. I think I read it's a 14% chance that a team in the bottom 3 will have the first pick. Plus, they're only a meaningless wins away from dropping to 4th and they have added a few players who just might look to win a few meaningless games. The schedule has a lot of home games. I think the odds are pretty low they get the top pick.

It is what it is. We need to land a top 3 pick IMO. RJ, Zion or Ja should be the way to go.

As for Knox, I like his game and think he can be every bit as good as Tobias Harris with a chance to be evem better. Kid has a bright future, lets hope he keeps developing
Jordan

Knox is atrocious around the rim. I didnít see much of him at Kentucky so donít know if it was better there and is just a matter of needing to get stronger in order to finish through contact. Iím hoping thatís all it is, but it really looks like he has no touch, he just chucks the ball up and hopes for the best. Reminds me of Shumpert in that regard.

Theyíre going to have to renounce both to sign 2 max guys. They could bring one back on an exception, but the other would have to take the vet minimum. Both may have better options.

As for Kyrie and KD coming here, I'm not convinced, although I'd be ecstatic if it were to happen. Sadly, I'm not yet sold on Fizdale. He may be all PR and glasses. This Knick team plays zero defense which is supposedly Fizdales' strong suit.

They're 4-19 at home and 6-22 on the road before today's game.

Don't get too wrapped up in worry over them lucking into wins. The team is putrid.

robbieballs2003 : 2/3/2019 4:26 pm : link
I keep reading that all we need to do is finish in the bottom three as the odds at the top pick are the same. Yes, that is true but finishing in last place guarantees you a top 5 pick. If we finish in second to last place then it is the top 6 and so on for every position. So, yes, every little win or lack thereof matters. Huge difference between the 5th and 7th picks. I think most agree there are 3 top players right now but there are a couple of other players that are interesting as well.

For all we know there might end up being 7 players in this draft.

Nothing we say here is going to affect the W/L record. Whatever is going to happen is out of anyone's hands but the coach. It's just unnecessary to fret over every made basket at this point. Worrying isn't going to do anything.
86% chance of not getting the first pick
arniefez : 2/3/2019 4:47 pm : link
96% chance of not getting KD and Irving. So what will the Knicks do in that case. Sign good players to Max contracts and repeat the disaster of the last 20 years? Or use their 3rd or 4th pick well and keep their cap space and slowly try to get better like the 76ers did? I think we all know the answer. Dolan and and his flunky Mills will repeat the same things over again and expect different results.

How much media attention the worst team in the league gets. Every single move is analyzed, discussed, usually trashed but definitely must get each media out more readership.

My point is that KP is going to miss being in the center of the vortex. Dallas is a nice town but itís the Cowboys first, high school football second, UT third and then maybe the Mavs fourth.

Thatís why if there is a superstar out there with balls, and they come to NY and win, they will be a legend and an icon forever. Look at Messier; LT; Eli; Derek . . .those guys won here and are the anointed.

However, itís not for everyone and clearly, it wasnít for KP.

I also think that if people can ignore the negativity and snark, the Knicks have Perry and Fizdale who are incredibly well liked and well connected in the league. That will count for a lot come this summer.

Maybe, but there are people who just don't like New York, don't want to work there, don't want to live in the area. That's not to say he loves Dallas -- He may well opt for Miami or Los Angeles when he can -- but he may not miss New York one bit. It happens.

manh george : 2/3/2019 6:13 pm : link
how people are ready to throw in the towel on Knox.
1) He's 19, and still growing.
2) He has the kind of frame and starting muscles that will handle tight, taught musculature once he stabilizes and physically matures a little.
3) He's going to be a 6'9-9 1/2" who can play small forward with shooting skills and ability to get to the rim. Big, athletic 3's are extremely valuable.
4) He is right on schedule for the rookie wall. He averaged 17.1 in December and 12.7 in January. This is not a surprise for a 19 year old big 3. It would have been a surprise if it didn't happen.

Do you guys think the 17.1 in December as a 19 year old was an accident?

Btw, I am also wondering about Trier. I think that he can be at least as good as THJr., with time--and a lot cheaper for a while. He is at least as athletic, physically stronger, probably as good a shooter, probably a better defender, and probably a better passer. He needs experience, of course, but I don't see that Junior was any better when he was here the first time.
Btw, as far as KP is concerned...
manh george : 2/3/2019 6:21 pm : link
as Knicks fan, I always had my fingers crossed, but the fact remains that 7'3"-type players tend to be injury prone and have relatively short careers. Yes, he was incredibly different than most other big men, but I still cringed when he went flying down the lane and crashed into the crowd behind the rim, or blocked a big man who then tangled with his legs.

I won't root for him to get hurt, but the fact remains that if he does, the draft picks the Knicks get could be very high.

is that he doesn't appear to do anything other than shoot the ball. He's not a very good passer, he doesn't rebound. I know he's young but you'd like to see him progress and effect the game in some way other than shooting.

I'm sure we will find out more today at the presser, but I'm starting to come around to the trade. I think its a massive risk for both teams. If Dallas get can KP healthy hes a perfect number 2 they didn't give up much for. But I think they are legitimate injury concerns with him.

And the Knicks pushed all their chips in the middle on this summer. If they don't come away with 2 legit all nba players- I think you have to view this trade as a failure. I'm skeptical but I hope I'm wrong.

I think ultimately- the Knicks didn't feel comfortable giving KP a max contract. Overall it was a shocking turn of events.
