I like a defensive battle

BigBlueDownTheShore : 2/3/2019 10:02 pm
That was an old school game, but it was definitely a boring one.
Worst Superbowl in a while

Defensive battle yes
Joey from GlenCove : 2/3/2019 10:08 pm : link
But a score of 21-17
21-20

Something like that
I like a good defensive battle myself ....
short lease : 2/3/2019 10:10 pm : link
but, that was just weird. Uninspiring ...

The Best defensive game I ever saw was Giants v.s. the 49'ers on a Monday night. Giants lost 7 - 3 IIRC. But, that was a real battle - not a boring minute. Extremely intense.

I don't know about this game.
That was a battle of incompetence

Goff looked like it was his first NFL game. Good defense was Seattle vs Denver.

Their whole offensive strategy was just terrible. They didn't do what they were good at.
I like defense too

but you can't convince me this was not more about poor offense than great defense. Brady was off and Goff was lost. Gurley has to be hurt and Anderson came back down to earth. Sony Michel and Julian Edelman were the only two offensive players who looked real good tonight other than a play here or there.

Think that was the worst Super Bowl I’ve seen

Hard to think of another that compares.

That wasn’t a defensive battle. That was bad football.

This one wouldn't even make my top 10 of worst Super Bowls. You must be on the young side. Prior to the 90's nearly all Super Bowls were one-sided blow-outs. Got a few good ones in the 90's but it's only in the 2000's that they started to be more good than bad.

It was kind of my point. Technically it was a defensive battle, but it was boring because it was because each offense sucked.

Goff was definitely shell-shocked but Mcvay didn't help him at all. the pats were blitzing on every play, sending at least 5 rushers yet the rams were unable to adjust and just abandoned the run game.
I fully expect all the posters..

who bitched endlessly after the Chiefs-Rams MNF game to share this view.
far from the worst

i liked it more than last years no defense game. it was also still a game well into 4th quarter. How many super bowls in the 80s and 90s were wretched blowouts?

This was..

my take as well:

And I think McVay might lose some of the shine after this one. The way the end of the season flushed out, it would be like the Giants inexplicably keeping Barkley out several series in the game. Heck, we saw the blowback when that happened vs. Philly.

Gurley never had a chance to get into a rhythm and eithet he was injured much worse than let on (but yet looked decently explosive), or McVay just got too cute in the playoffs.

I think the Gilmore had a hell of a game, but I don't think this was some epic defensive battle - it was two teams really playing it safe on offense and failing to move the ball time and again due to poor playcalling and bad passes.
Goff played like crap...
BamaBlue : 2/4/2019 8:32 am : link
but, you have to look at the protection, or lack of protection the Rams OL provided. Goff never rarely had the chance to throw. When he did have time, the Patriots were playing 2 deep safeties. The Rams OL was flagged for holding on the decisive play of the game. The 4th quarter 30+ yard run by Gurley that set the Rams up in field goal position and the score tied... The offense wound up with a 4th and 25 and the Patriots got the only TD on their next possession.

Yeah... Goff and Gurley were awful, but they were playing behind the Giants offensive line.
Thought it was a great game.

Two defenses knocking the hell out of the offenses for a change. Definitely liked that. Good special teams. What bing Tom struggle a bit and the Rams offense did little.
Good game.
What bing =

Watching. Auto correct.
The Pats D has been masterful
mittenedman : 2/4/2019 8:47 am : link
the last couple of weeks. What they did to the Chiefs offense and then to the Rams - that's high level. Neither team could do a f#cking thing against them. Unreal.

That Pats D is sneaky good. Not your usual dominant D. They have maybe 1 or 2 recognizable names. They don't physically punish you. They are just ALWAYS in perfect position. It's impressive.

Watching the Pats D and the Giants D (who leaves the middle of the field wide open for decades on end), it's almost like they aren't playing the same sport. There is no where to go with the ball.
I've always liked defense too....
BillKo : 2/4/2019 10:17 am : link
..but when you have two teams that don't represent your liking, esp in the Super Bowl, you want to probably see a bit more excitement and that means offense.

And, especially since both these teams have the ability to put up points but just couldn't do it.......

One side note, anyone notice on third down they played that STUPID Patriots' horn over the PA system? I thought this was a neutral field?? LOL...just always find that annoying and had to hear it last night as well!!!
