Consider the firestorm that erupted after Hyundai’s 60-second commercial which asked the question, “What’s worse than shopping for a car?” The ad featured Jason Bateman as an elevator attendant dropping passengers off in a variety of very unpleasant situations, like having dental work done. One floor featured a vegan dinner party where the main course was something called beetloaf – a dish that would be on par with having a root canal. A raging mob of vegans unleashed their wrath on Hyundai – accusing the carmaker of “vegan shaming.” “Good job perpetuating the myth vegan food is bad,” wrote one outraged vegan. “People could offset your products’ carbon footprint by going vegan. But you got a cheap joke in.” “I need a new car. I was considering a Hyundai. I am a vegan,” wrote another. “It’s hard enough to live this way without being denigrated by a car company. Shame on you.” |

Hyundai was eventually forced to issue an apology to appease the meatless mob. |
+1. They should have stated that future commercials would have more cheesburgers, maybe hot dogs too
Does going vegan impact one's ability to not take themselves too seriously?
?
The ad itself was fine. It just struck me as odd that they are marketing based on the purity of their product instead of what really drives their success - price and brand loyalty.
Well, after they discontinue Bud Light Lime, of course:)
TONS

Forget comedy, even everyday life, You are not special because you are vegan, add whatever ethnicity, political party, gender, age group, nationality...stop being offended and stop offending others by your being offended. It is chique to jump on the bandwagon until your "group" comes under attack.
Let the 15 dozen vegans in the world go buy a Kia instead. Who really gives a crap...
Just another reason not to by their product.
Meatloaf, double beetloaf. I'm offended that they didn't give credit to Ralphie from A Christmas Story.

is objectively funny. They should have hired Rainn Wilson to be the one holding it.

Haha great catch!
And vegans could really use to lighten up

either realize how fucking stupid we are as a society for overreacting to stupid shit, or we'll probably see a day where comedy is no longer used.

Companies have no way at the moment to evaluate just how much an "offense" will effect their business so they issue the pro forma apology to anyone who was offended and move on.

Aren't attempts to shame normal folk part of the vegan and PETA toolkits?

Yes, and I didn't say it wasn't fair just hard to comprehend the extent to which some folks will go.
that's not funny. Koalas taste awful.
If you find vegan food to be awful, then you're a shitty cook.
I'm not vegan, but I have cooked meals that are - still do once in a while. Great meals exist across the spectrum.
“It’s hard enough to live this way without being denigrated by a car company. Shame on you.”
Doesn't that kinda confirm the food sucks?
Mary Poppins is a racist. No really.

Then came the counterprotest.
Michael Hunter, a chef and co-owner of the restaurant appeared in its window with a raw deer leg and a sharp knife, when he began to carve up the meat in full view of the protesters, some of whom later said they were disturbed for days, according to news reports.“

How does vegan food suck? It's fucking vegetables. Vegetables are fucking delicious. Turkey aside, almost the entire Thanksgiving meal is vegetables. You're saying most of Thankgiving sucks.
Just because plants can't scream when they die, they aren't being MURDERED?
They were alive, before you cut them and turned them into horrific BEETLOAF ya hypocrites! hahaha
Knight is a legend getting a chance to perform at the SB in her hometown. To sing her country's national anthem.
To have it somewhat spoiled by identity politics continues to be tremendously disheartening.

No. It's hard to be vegan because so much marketed food contains animal products.

step away from the soy and nobody gets hurt.

But that rendition of the National Anthem matched the game. Far from beautiful, and BORING.
Giving aid to our enemies, tearing down our great traditions.
Brussels Sprouts, Po-fucking-taters, Carrots and Cauliflower and Broccoli and YAMS, man!
USA! USA! USA!!

I'm not in the "vegan food sucks" boat, but my top three Thanksgiving foods are the turkey (obviously out), the stuffing (out because my favorite recipe has a decent amount of butter), and mashed potatoes (made with milk and butter and usually topped with gravy).
So yeah, even putting turkey aside, I'll pass on the vegan Thanksgiving.

I agree that Knight is a legend, and I get why they used her.

Really? Had about 25 people at my house, several of them singers/musical backgrounds and they all felt she killed it - especially at 71!

I'm glad she made your party happy. Didn't work for me.

I, sir, happen to be a musician and trained Audio Engineer, sir, the house I was in was packed with musicians and at least one killer of a singer as well, and if any of them were raving over that SNOOZER of an anthem, I missed it.
I'm glad she made your party happy. Didn't work for me.
Not being combative and because I am not musically talented but love music and the technology I'm curious what made her performance boring? Also seeing a lot of mixed reviews on Maroon 5 - everyone at my party seemed to think that was a good performance but also seeing them getting killed online. I'm not really a fan but appreciate getting up on stage in front of hundreds of millions of viewers and performing like that. What did you think of them?
As for the anthem, Glady's Knight wasn't put up there because she is on top of her game, she was put there because she is an Atlanta icon, right? She was one of the greats and it was nice to see her up there. I would have had her go with a higher key to push her voice into a more pleasant range. She wasn't overly accurate, but what is she, 71? It's OK. All good.
As for Maroon 5, I'm not a fan, wasn't really paying much attention to it. Superbowl is the TALLEST order, one that only few have really nailed. I would say, they did about as well as I expected. They didn't sound bad, they just sounded like Maroon 5.
Turkey aside, almost the entire Thanksgiving meal is vegetables. You're saying most of Thankgiving sucks.
Include the turkey and I'll say all of Thanksgiving sucks. Does anyone eat turkey by choice on a day other than Thanksgiving?
ok, maybe I'm going a little overboard, lol
A public service post- Bright red stool may not mean you've got colon cancer, it might just mean you had beets for dinner last night.
I now return you to your regular thread
Exactly, you can be a real man and still beet the meat
I've had that scare.
Yeah, no shit.
