NFT: Knicks Chat: Theoretical 3 way blockbuster

DanMetroMan : 2/4/2019 9:57 am
Jeremy Woo suggested a 3 way deal in which the Knicks would send Jordan or Matthews (plus 2 1st round picks) or Kanter, Knox and 1 first round pick to Boston for Irving who would then send Brown, Smart, Morris and "picks" to NO for Anthony Davis.

Sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @WatchStadium it's four-team list for Davis -- with inclusion of the Clippers and Bucks along with previous teams (Lakers, Knicks). The Knicks are unlikely, however, after moving Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas.

The Lakers have offered a new package to New Orleans that includes multiple young players, multiple draft picks and Pelicans salary cap relief for Anthony Davis, league sources tell ESPN. The offer appears to move closer to the objectives that the Pelicans are pursuing in a deal.

Why would the Knicks trade for Irving?
arniefez : 2/4/2019 2:41 pm : link
Because they're the Knicks and this is what they do and they didn't learn anything from trading for Anthony right before his free agency? At least they had a small excuse for that one know that all Anthony ever cared about was money and there was some CBA uncertainty. What's the excuse now?
The Pels would be idiotic to make a move

the Pelicans do force the Lakers to take on bad contracts as well; a worst case scenario for Knicks fans would be AD in LA with Lebron and the Lakers having cap space too. You want to make sure they are done adding pieces after they inevitably get Davis.

The part that's driving me nuts though is the notion that if the Knicks don't get the top pick overall they can't put together a trade that's worthwhile to the Pelicans. They can deal 5 first round picks + 3 players on rookie scale contracts that were picked in the lottery the last two seasons plus Robinson & Trier budget friendly deals. The notion that a combination of players / picks from the Knicks cant match Kyle Kuzma and a bag of shit from the Lakers unless one of the Knicks picks land 1st overall just seems idiotic.

Things keep changing. Knicks need to remain patient. We can give them a better offer than LA even without the #1 pick. If its top 3 our offer will still be better.
Bucks have nothing to give (in my mind of value)

Without KP around, I guess the Lakers have the best collection of young talent, but it's nothing special. Don't know why the Knicks would be dismissed in this field, unless Woj is just being his typical Knick-hating self.

New Orleans rejected the Knicks on a Porzingis offer recently, and likely don't have the assets to gain the Pelicans' interest unless they defy the odds on a 12 percent chance in the draft lottery to get the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft.

If tank goes well..chances are 17% better than Woj indicates.. haha...

14%, not 12%

Either way... the lottery is HUGE. Pelicans should obviously wait it out.
I dont really want Kyrie in general
Oscar : 2/4/2019 3:12 pm : link
If they trade for him pre-deadline I would be very annoyed. Waste of assets and detrimental to the tank. No thanks.

Janis is absokutely the reason kp was moved and why kp wanted to be traded..

i told this story before, his rookie year i sat two rows behind knicks bench.. game was about to start and usher asked janis to move off the court he looked at him and then ignored him, went back to talking to who he was talking to and basically said does this guy know who he is talking to.....

KP himself just said plan was always to sit out the rest of the year, so bondy sources saying he was cleared were absolute bullshit

It's been pretty well documented that Woj will "report" things as favors for teams and agents in exchange for scoops, hence why he always gets them. The Knicks have not given him any of that (although Perry joining may have changed that since they have a relationship) hence why he comes off as a Knick hater. With that being said, this all screams of the Lakers using Woj to gain leverage. The Pelicans best bet is to hold AD til the end of the season. The Lakers package is going nowhere and the Knicks could fall in the top 3 which would be the best asset of any of the assets the Lakers and Knicks have collectively. Further, trading AD to any team harms their draft position if they're giving up this year's first to their detriment.

but AD's list of four teams speaks volumes doesn't it? He wants to team up with a great player and chase a ring. Lakers have Lebron, Bucks have Giannis - enough said. Clippers? No one of that caliber, at the moment. Knicks? No one of that caliber at the moment. Pretty easy to connect the dots - he expects Kawhi to sign with the Clippers, and KD and/or Kyrie to sign with the Knicks. Why is Boston not on the list? He knows Kyrie is leaving. As of right now, that has to be the answer to the riddle.
To be fair, sometimes I hate the Knicks, too

Landed in Indy; update on Lakers-Pelicans talks. Magic Johnson, Dell Demps talked twice today, per source. Lakers willing to give Pelicans cap relief for Anthony Davis by taking Solomon Hill for Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ingram, Rondo, Lance Stephenson, Beasley, 2 1st round picks.

I saw a tweet from a reporter (can't remember who) who suggested that the Bucks were added to the list so it didn't look like big market bias, knowing that they don't have the ability to pull off a deal anyways.
Congrats, Pelicans!
bceagle05 : 2/4/2019 3:45 pm : link
That Laker team without Lebron is good for about 25 wins, and you get the whole shitty roster, plus some first rounders that will be in the late 20s!
Again. I cannot stress this enough...

Why would the deal get worse from the Lakers? There's really no incentive to do the trade now for NO. An intelligent organization would wait to see what happens with the Knicks and/or Boston, then get the same package if necessary minus the Rondo/Lance trash.
Because the situation could change
Oscar : 2/4/2019 4:07 pm : link
Boston might not be involved in the summer if they dont think AD will sign long term with them, or might not be willing to include Tatum whos really their only blue chip piece. The Knicks are much more likely to end up with the 5th pick of the draft than the first and its not a very deep draft. Also by the summer any team willing to pay a little over value now might be less inclined because its a one year, one shot a title rental at that point rather than two playoff runs.

The Laker offer can basically only get worse so by waiting you are really just hoping Boston gives you some ridiculous fucking offer in the summer which seems very unlikely without a guarantee from Davis he will sign long term. Or you are hoping the Knicks land the first pick and land KD or Kyrie or both.

I think the idea that it will definitely be a stronger market in the summer is wrong, its a risk and perhaps more likely that it will be a weaker market. If you have a deal you really like now just pull the trigger and start rebuilding.
Does anyone want that Ball

season while the Pelicans and Lakers play hardball over Lonzo, Ingram, and Kuzma. After the PG episode, I seriously doubt the Lakers are willing to let things play out in the interest of lowering their offer as time goes on.
For a rebuilding team which the Pels would be
NoGainDayne : 2/4/2019 4:22 pm : link
I can't see how anything the Lakers could offer would beat 4 first round picks one of them in the top 5. Plus Knox, Robinson and to a lesser extent Frank and Trier.

If anything this feels like a way for them to try to get more out of the Knicks. I don't see what the Clippers or Bucks could do to beat that either.

I think the Pels need players now
Oscar : 2/4/2019 4:27 pm : link
Not draft picks 3-5 years from now. The franchise could legitimately be in Seattle or Las Vegas in five years. They need players. Plus the Lakers are offering picks.
