caught this doc on HBO this weekend and it was really really well done. Anyone from this area my age(50) or definitely older will love it. Takes you back to a different era in the city when things were much more blue collar and newspapers and their columnists really were the heartbeat of the city. They really detailed Breslin's connection to the working man and The contrast in styles between him and Hamill(who dated Jackie Kennedy,Shirley McLaine etc...) and how they both made it work. It was fun reminiscing about all the events that were such big events in the sociological make-up of the city and area as I grew up from a kid into young adulthood- Central Park 5, Son of Sam, Bernie Goetz the subway vigilante, that explosion when Abe Hirshfield took over the Post for like a week and the newspaper staff itself had an open revolt against him in the printed edition of the paper...
Thought it was very well done. Breslin was a hell of a writer.
Then of course, Breslin's 'campaign' with Norman Mailer. LOL.
