1) I think challenges need to go and everything is viewed from upstairs.
2) I think all pass interference/late hits/targeting calls should be viewed upstairs and buzzed down to referee.
3) I think all other penalties can be reversed if a wrong call is made. Example... face mask not touched....
This would be a start.....
I thought the crew yesterday did a great job with the exception of John Parry the white hat, he had a bad game...
1st quarter personal foul was just a tackle (Sanatore made a excuse for him..... I also think he made the holding call on Gurleys run to midfield 4th quarter. Score tied 3-3.. That call, even Romo questioned it, changed the whole rest of the game field wise... He followed with not calling late hit on Goff the next play Sanatore again made a excuse... QBs running OOB on the sideline getting clocked its called in todays NFL...
I have been an official a long time but in the NFL these guys are too fast....
The main reason I say no to instant replay on fouls: we'll be in the same predicament - and even worse - we are now with challenges: down to the microframe showing something or not something happening.
I think it would be a real mess.
I originally thought it was a hit out of bounds, but when they showed the replay he was actually just barely in bounds when he was hit. Since he was out of the pocket and still in bounds there shouldn't be any penalty.
If the QB is running as if they are going OOB, what is to stop him from cutting back and gaining extra yardage? He is out of the pocket and should be treated as a running back. People want to advocate to protect a QB? Then tell the player to stay in the pocket. Want to be a runner? Then don't expect special treatment.
Just keep it the way it is. 2 and a 3rd if u win your first two. Just add judgement calls. The most egregious are obvious. The fans know the refs absolutely suck so Its no longer a question of making them look bad. They do that week in as week out. A missed call is a missed call. Belichick has advocated This. But it’s too easy.
They’d rather let the refs fuck games up I guess
They can easily agree to look at egregious non calls and call down to the field to stop play. This would not happen often but when it did they would get it right which is what everyone wants.
The Saints should have been playing. And would have had a better chance to win that game because their D is better against the run and their O is much more diverse. And I'm not a saints fan.
Sullivan's hold is called by the umpire, not referee. Umpire's responsibility is the center. Again, close call, but the Rams were blatantly holding throughout the game and didn't get called at all. One play #91 came up the middle, beat Sullivan, and two steps from Goff was wrapped up - how that wasn't called is beyond me.
Goff running OOB. Sideline video shows he was clearly inbounds - it wasn't close. And in 1983 Perry Williams was called for hitting Montana near the sideline. Later Montana was running OB, Perry held up and Montana turned and ran past him for a huge gain. IMV, Montana should have been given an unsportsman penalty seeing as how he faked going OOB. That maybe the worst penalty in football. There needs to be a parameter - like the ball carrier is inside of the 1 yard stripe on the sideline.
If you want to nit-pick penalties it works both ways most of the time.
BTW, I like the NCAA video ref upstairs calling down to the field to review the plays.
Look at the critical calls that the crew made. A personal foul where the runner lowers his head as he's being tackled by a defender in the upright position. You could call that on many tackles throughout the game.
The 3rd down defensive holding called on NE where the Rams receiver initiated contact awards a new first down instead of a punt.
I've been saying for years that they need to use common sense on a lot of these calls. If there is incidental contact or minor contact doesn't impact a play, let it go. Calling a bullshit touch of a receiver on 3rd and 14 impacts the game and by extension artificially inflates scoring.
Personal fouls should be if intent is used to hit a player illegally. Not a tackle where helmets collide because of body position. Call leading with the helmet, not having your helmet run into by the runner. That's why they were supposed to focus on calling the offensive player for lowering the head.
Honestly, officiating would be so much more effective if they called the offensive holds that materially impacted a pass rusher or a would be tackler and called defensive holding when it actually impacts a wide receiver from making his cut. Calling a DB for putting their hand on a player's shoulder on the opposite side of the field that causes no negative impact is complete horseshit.
And for fuck's sake - call only what you see, not what you think.
What bugs me, are calls that are not even near the play, that result in first downs for the offense......
Also, penalties like, 3rd and 25, pass incomplete, but roughing the passer called? Automatic first down....should be a penalty, say 15 yards.....down over, 3rd and 10....not an automatic first down....

Saints would have been run out of the building. They had been sputtering for 4-5 games before their last playoff game. I think there is credence to the rumor that Brees was injured after the big hit he took in the Dallas game. They were never the same. They reminded me of the 2008 Giants. Started off great and then became worn down and injured by the time the playoffs rolled around.
