NFT: Islanders vs, Bruins @7pm @ TD Garden

The 12th Man : 2/5/2019 11:19 am
Islanders 30-15-6
Bruins 28-17-7

Islanders look to extend their point streak and their lead in the Metro Division. Islanders coming off a lackluster but very exciting come from behind victory against the Kings. Just when all looked lost the kids came through, 1st Matt Barzal to tie it and MDC to put them ahead to stay. It was an important 2 points and keeps us going in the right direction. The Islanders have won 16 of their last 21 games. They have a 4 pt lead over both the Penguins and the Capitals. The Islanders are 15-10 on the road this year. Though their Penalty Kill is getting better now 21st at 79.3% their PP is going the other way and no ranks 26th at 16%. Robin Lehner has a solid career GAA 2.61 vs. the Bruins but he is only 4-15. I am expecting Griess between the pipes with those numbers. For the Bruins Tuukka Rask is 13-5 against the Isles and a very good 2.14 GAA career wise against us.

The Bruins are extremely 1st line heavy. It will be interesting knowing that Coach Trotz has not played matchup but continues to just roll 4 lines to just roll 4 lines will he continue to do so tonight? We have to stay out of the penalty box as Boston has the #3 PP in the league converting at a 27.3% clip. Their Penalty Kill is not much different than ours at 79.6% and ranked 16th in the league. A couple of interesting stats

Islanders are 11-25 in their last 36 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600

Islanders are 8-1-1 in their last 10 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game

Boston is 14-5 in their last 19 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Boston is 35-16 in their last 51 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Something has to give.

SEASON SERIES: ISLES TRAIL 0-0-1

The Islanders dropped a 2-1 shootout decision to the Bruins on Nov. 29 at TD Garden. Robin Lehner made 35 saves in the shootout loss, while Anders Lee scored the lone goal for the Islanders. Ryan Donato scored the game decider in the fourth round of the shootout.

The Bruins have won five straight games against the Islanders.

ISLANDERS NOTES:

- The Islanders enter Tuesday's game on an eight-game point streak (6-0-2), their longest streak since a 10-game point streak in 2014-15. The Islanders are coming off a 4-2 win over the LA Kings on Saturday night.

The Islanders are 16-3-2 in their last 21 games - the best record in the NHL since Dec. 15.

- The Islanders lead the Metropolitan Division with 66 points and are four points ahead of both Pittsburgh and Washington (62 points apiece). The Isles win on Saturday night was their 30th of the season. They won 35 games all of last year.

- Both Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss are rolling for the Islanders as of late. Lehner is 12-1-1 in his last 14 games and leads the NHL with a 2.02 GAA and a .932 SV%. Greiss is riding a 146:48 shutout streak and is tied for fourth in GAA (2.39) and is fifth in SV% (.924).

Lehner is coming off a 34-save win over LA on Saturday, while Greiss recorded a 41-save shutout in a 1-0 shootout loss to Tampa on Friday. Lehner has 16 wins and Greiss has 14 this season, marking the second time in 15 years the Isles have at least 14 wins from two different goalies (2015-16).

- The Islanders have allowed two goals or fewer in eight of their last nine games. They lead the league in goals against (125 including shootout goals, 120 excluding shootout goals).

- Defenseman Ryan Pulock recorded three assists in Saturday's win, his second three-assist game this season (Pittsburgh, Oct. 30).

BRUINS NOTES:

- Patrice Bergeron will play his 1,000th career NHL game on Tuesday night - all with the Bruins. Bergeron has 778 points (305G, 473A) in 999 games with Boston and is showing no signs of slowing down, with 44 points (16G, 28A) in 36 games this season.

The 33-year-old will become the fifth Bruins player to play 1,000 games for the club and is seventh all-time in Bruins scoring.

- Tuukka Rask became the Bruins all-time wins leader after recording his 253rd win on Sunday afternoon. Rask now owns the most wins and games played (477) in Bruins history.

Rask is reportedly starting for the Bruins on Tuesday night. Rask is coming off a 24-save shutout against the Washington Capitals on Sunday and is 15-8-4 this season.

- The Bruins have points in three straight games (1-0-2). Boston is 4-3-3 in their last 10 games.

- The Bruins (63 points) currently occupy the first wild card berth in the Eastern Conference, one point shy of the Montreal Canadiens (64 points).

- David Pastrnak leads the Bruins in goals (30) and points (62). Brad Marchand leads the Bruins with 38 assists and is second on the team with 57 points. Pastrnak, has seven points (3G, 4A) in his last four games.

Rumor circulating in The Athletic is that the Islanders have contacted the Devils about Bryan Boyle.

Josh Ho-Sang scratched in his last game in the minors on Saturday and may get scratched tonight. Reasons more of the same discipline in managing the puck and playing away from it. He is just trying to do to much.

Attached is the Prospect report for the Islanders. Some of these prospects have great NHL futures in front of them. Sorokin back to back shutouts. O Wahlstrom, R. Iskhakov, N Dobson, B Wilde, A Durandeau and one of my favorite names Blade Jenkins. Great stuff.

GO ISLES!!!!

MUST SEE TV!!!
Isles have lost 5 in a row against Boston.

Most of the games haven't been very competitive either (the one earlier this year was).

Would love to finally beat them, especially since Montreal's unexpected play this year means Boston is a realistic postseason opponent. If the season ended today, we'd play them.

That is an excellent point you do not want it in your head that you can not beat them. This would be a very nice road victory, looking forward to a very good hockey game.
Isles are structured under Trotz to handle

one line teams very well. However, given our recent history vs Boston, I'm a little bit skeptical about our chances until I see us finally beat this team. Would rather avoid these guys in the first round if possible and face a Columbus/Montreal/Buffalo type of team instead.

There will be a lot of drunken fans at the game tonight since the Pats parade was this afternoon in Boston. Some rumblings that the game start time might be delayed 30-60 minutes due to public transit issues in Boston stemming from the parade.

Would love to see Dal Colle light up the scoreboard again tonight. Ladd is getting close to a return and I wanted to see Dal Colle stay in the lineup.

I think a certain #18 is the one to start worrying about his lineup spot. He gets hot and scores a bunch of goals and then disappears and is useless the rest of the time.
Anyone else find it ironic that
Metnut : 2/5/2019 1:47 pm : link
the Boston denizens are celebrating a supposed dynasty today while the team with the last real dynasty in sports is in town?

Yea, you might be right. He really needs to step it up. Can't play on that line without more consistent production.

Amazing that we now have real depth to put pressure on guys to perform. What a concept.

Depth, is something that we could only wish we would have the last few years, now not only do we have depth but we have real depth young and old in every position. Who would have thought at the end of last year when we lost JT that this team would be where we are at now.
Our PP no improvement
The 12th Man : 2/5/2019 7:33 pm : link
Now have to kill the Boston PP
Bad Penalties
The 12th Man : 2/5/2019 7:52 pm : link
They seemed to be on their heels most of the period. Regroup and come back out and play better.
Trotz
KDubbs : 2/5/2019 7:54 pm : link
Hand the team back to cappy/weight that period? Dont like the version of the isles who cant clear the zone
Horrible play by Boychek
The 12th Man : 2/5/2019 8:18 pm : link
Costs us a 2 on 1 then does not get back and Lehner gets dinged in the process.

I do not like that we did not get a morning skate in.
Much better period
The 12th Man : 2/5/2019 8:42 pm : link
And much better PP this period leads to the goal.
Things to me
The 12th Man : 2/5/2019 8:46 pm : link
Are getting a little chippy. Going to be an interesting 3rd period.
I think barzal
KDubbs : 2/5/2019 9:46 pm : link
Would pass on a breakaway if he could
