I actually own a Tyrone Wheatley jersey. I was an anti Tiki fan then. Can't wait to see Saquan to shatter his records.

Good one.

First draft pick I can remember watching

I think he gets a bad rep for his time with the Giants and he was actually a work horse for Gruden in Oakland. He played a hell of allot better there.

Greg his son plays RB for the Hokies right now. He actually might get a significant amount of time this year.

Good one.

Well, I guess when you are leading the meeting you have to stay awake, right? (8>
Drafted the same year the Patriots drafted Curtis Martin
GeofromNJ : 2/5/2019 3:12 pm : link
on the 3rd round (not saying George Young should have known that Martin was the elite RB that year). Wheatley was also drafted immediately ahead of Napoleon Kaufman and prior to James Stewart and Rashaan Salaam who were also taken on the 1st round. To compensate, the Giants drafted FB Charles Way on the 6th round that year. Knee injuries ended Way's career.

and was listening on the radio. Yes, people actually listened to the radio once and also had to watch a TV show when it was being broadcast.

Wheatley will always be associated with that moment. And that he was a Big-10 guy. Congrats to him.
Toomer's dad told us some funny stories about Wheatley
since1925 : 2/5/2019 5:14 pm : link
Toomer's dad was always around training camp and Amani played with Tyrone at Michigan. The elder Mr. Toomer would relay stories from Wheatley's college days. He said Wheatley once came off the field after taking a big hit and told the coaching staff he couldn't go back in because the hit "bent his leg bone." True.
What are we supposed to believe?
mattlawson : 2/5/2019 7:49 pm : link
He broke his bones?

He thought bending leg bones was possible?

He felt like his bones were bent so he couldn’t play?
I was so pumped up when the Giants drafted Wheatley.

The Giants had Hampton, Walker, and Wheatley. I even called into ‘The Sports Babe’ to talk about our All-World backfield. Yeah. That didn’t turn out so hot.

That just about blows up Terps' old theory of "making your strongest unit stronger" doesn't it?
