I thought you'd be excited about this news. As soon as Gattis was hired the writing was on the wall.
In the last offseason, Harbaugh realized the O-line was a disaster and made changes. This offseason he realized his offense needs to score more points and went after Gattis.
Big problem is the defense. They always play man to man and can not match up that way with Ohio State and other elite programs.Don Brown needs to change his schemes.
I don’t think he was the issue, if there was even an issue. They were very successful for most of the year. If anything, I question whether Patterson should be the guy next year. They adjusted the offense, I’m not sure how much more Gattis can do.
I hope they go into the spring and summer and let the quarterbacks compete.
The defense, who knows, I have complete confidence in Don Brown. People want to complain about the last 2 games, but most of their core players were injured, out, or couldn’t stay in the game because of injury. They will ultimately be fine.

The O was too conservative. Your point on Patterson is a good one. I liked how McCaffrey did when he played, he deserves a shot to start.
Conservative than the previous year. There were a lot more 3 wide receivers or empty backfields. There were also quite a bit of 3 and outs where Patterson would throw 3 straight incompletions.
All I know, is that Gattis was dealing with a full deck at Alabama.
The problem was Michigan’s offense was the conservative play calling and lack of route concepts. It was either a WR screen or deep post with the receivers. Many times JJ went with two tight ends and and even three tight ends and having Black and Collins on the sidelines on 3rd downs.
I am hoping with Gentry and Higdon leaving - it will force Harbaugh to open the offense up more and feature the WRs a bit more.
Not hating on Patterson, just think McCaffrey has Â
Tough to tell with McCaffrey. He got some mop up duty where he did some good things. Coming off a broken collarbone is gonna suck for him though. I dont know if he will be there for spring ball.

Mixon is the one to watch out for.
