"If the Knicks cant trade the large contracts of center Enes Kanter and swingman Wes Matthews for an expiring contract and a draft pick before the 3 p.m. deadline, the players are expected to be waived or bought out, according to a source.

They each make a difficult-to-move $18.6 million, but a league source said the Knicks still are still exploring trade options."

do you trade for him now, sign durant and a slightly lesser player rather than wait and try and sign durant and kyrie?

i think i trade for davis now if you can
I'd probably trade for him now too

assuming Powell picks up his option, Dallas' pick conveys to Atlanta, and they keep FA holds for DFS, Kleber and Kristaps, i have the Mavs at $30.9 million in cap space this summer.

that's roughly one renouncement/Justin Jackson trade away from max-contract territory.

The Mavs have the most exciting teenager since LeBron, a player friendly owner and now are also big game hunters.

I cant remember a summer in which this many desirable spots were legitimate max contract contenders.

This summer is about to blow 2000 and 2010 out of the water.

Take out Hill and this is a no brainer. You have 60-65 million in cap space heading into the summer with-

Davis
Robinson
Smith
Trier
Dotson

You add Durant and still have 20-25 mill in cap space. That team immediately becomes a title contender.

Giving up Knox, Frank (last two #1's) and four 1st round picks is giving up too much IMO.

Marc Stein:The Pelicans have not yet disclosed their intentions regarding Davis should they elect to keep him past Thursdays 3 PM deadline. Davis wanted to play in both of New Orleans games this week but was understandably held out by the Pelicans

Marc Stein:Davis, Im told, prefers becoming a free agent in July 2020 to signing an extension with any team that acquires him

Marc Stein:The Knicks could still try to trade for Davis before the deadline or wait until after the draft lottery in May, when the world will know how strong their top pick in June is. Either way, New York has ample encouragement to pursue a Davis trade before its big free-agent summer

Marc Stein:And whether he is traded before Thursdays 3 PM trade deadline or in the offseason, league sources say, Davis intends to play out the remainder of his current contract and become a free agent in 2020 no matter where he lands.

I get that. Believe me I do. But I am not talking solely about them. I am talking about other teams. But I agree that it is very interesting that that he specifically mentions the Knicks when we have had the worst winning percentage in the league since like 2003 or some shit.

announcers and studio people have to be on the Lakers payroll at this point. Almost all of them are pushing the narrative that the Pelicans have to take the offer the Lakers made and how they're not sure the Lakers should even be offering that much.

The Lakers offer is hot garbage. It's just a lot of hot garbage. But hot garbage plus hot garbage still equals hot garbage.

fail to even mention that there is zero reason for Pelicans to trade him right now. The Lakers offer is going to be on the table the entire off-season. They're not going to suddenly pull the offer, they know its total trash.

The Pelicans gained a lot of leverage if it is indeed true that Davis is willing to sign long term with more than just the Lakers. If that is indeed true I don't see any way he winds up with the Lakers. Multiple teams can beat their offer in their sleep.

If I'm the Pelicans even if he says he will only sign long term with the Lakers I wouldn't trade him to them and i'd make him play out his contract. Yeah, they'd be losing out on the Lakers offer, but the Lakers offer isn't making them anything but at the very best a fringe playoff team. It would be worth more to a smaller market team like that to stand up to a player like Davis and stop letting star players hold teams hostage that they dont want to resign with. One team has to do it soon, and if the best the Pelicans can do is that steaming pile of shit then they should make an example out of Davis and stand up to these assholes. He can do whatever he wants but teams need to start standing up to these guys and not letting them dictate everything. They wouldn't be giving up much if they turned down the Lakers package and made him play out his contract.

To be fair, it's not just them. Fox Sports is no better. The NBA media is full of Laker and LeBron Stans (not to mention Magic and Kobe Stans). KD may be a lot of things, but he wasn't wrong about the media having their heads up LeBron's ass and the toxic environments around his teams.

I love Durant, but he can STFU.

He purposefully orchestrates his contracts to give himself annual flexibility to assess where he wants to play virtually every offseason.

That's totally his right, and extremely smart.

But don't shit a small sedan when the media and fans then go speculate where you're going to play.

If keeping it on the court and not having it analyzed to death is so important, sign a max.

If he can't commit to a veritable all star team, that he sought out, in a brand new arena, in the most desirable area of the country, in arguably the most relevant city in the world right now, maybe he's just kinda asking for it?

I'm not sure he can handle NY and being THE guy. I have serious reservations about how he handles adversity because it seems to be not well at all.

He won't have guys like Harden, Russ, Steph or Draymond to pass the buck off to when things get rough here. If he comes here, even WITH Kyrie, he is going to be the no-doubt Alpha dog here and the guy expected to carry the Knicks.

The spotlight is going to be directly on him more than it has ever been before and I think he's a bitch who won't handle it well.
