Did anyone watch? If so, what were your thoughts?
Season 6, a 20 episode season (probably split like season 5 IMO), has already been green lit and it will be the final season.
I really liked this season. I thought the show would fall apart with Ragnar, but it really hasn't. Man, the guy who plays Ivar really nails it.
and next season, they introduce Oleg of Novgorod, a Viking raider who ruled eastern European places like Belarus, Russia, and the Ukraine.
Set up for a great finale.
The one character that had me scratching my head was the 'other brother'. The Saxon guy who claimed to be the Son of Ragnar. In the end, it really didn't matter, because he bought the farm in the battle of Kattegat...
I have no interest in the Floki story.
I thought the Saxon son of ragnar was a fraud trying to get close to the Vikings, but turns out he probably was a son of Ragnar (though I doubt we ever know for sure) - not a great plot.
I think the Bjorn story is a good one, he was always supposed to surpass Ragnar in terms of fame and legend - he and his bloodline became kings of Sweden.
Just didn't think they had to take 20 episodes to get there.
the show also doesn't include all the sons of Ragnar, he supposedly had 6 or 7 sons.
This is a pretty good look at the final season, with some thought into the direction of the show.

this is awesome, thanks.
I guess that answers my questions about how they integrate Oleg of Novgorod. He's the one who allies with Ivar I guess.
I hope the last season will do the series justice.
Uhtred of Bebbanburg is my favorite book protagonist (and also one of the few completely made up characters since the story is historical fiction) and it's my favorite book series outside of Game of Thrones.
I thought season 3 done by Netflix was MUCH better than seasons 1 and 2 done by BBC.
Can't wait for season 4.
So it's sort of the opposite for me compared with Vikings where one series is getting better while the other getting worse, but Seasons 1 and 2 of Last Kingdom I did not like as much as any season of Vikings but that's maybe because I read the Last Kingdom books and sometimes that's more of a bad thing than a good thing.
I don't like much historical fiction but Bernard Cornwall takes the cake imho
But so far no Vikings in Ireland (they were there in force)and I don't see how they have time to touch on Eric the Red or Leif Ericson or show a scene of the long boat approaching L'Anse Aux Meadows.

Thanks Bill, I think you are the one who suggested I might like Cornwell and the Saxon Stories.
You were right. I liked them so much I read the Warlord Chronicles too. Only three books and took maybe a couple weekends, but they were really good. They are from Arthur era Britain and include many of the characters known in other Arthur stories (Merlin, Guinivere, Lancelot, Galahad, etc.)
I'm working my way through some of his other stuff.
Thanks again.
Can not wait for Thrones!
