The team has already made a number of holes on the D, I can't see them cutting both as it will leave too many additional holes on the D (2-ERs, 2-CB, 2-Safeties, and possibly a LB)

This line of thinking is not really thinking.
The defense didn't stop anyone this year- even when scoring 30+ a game, they would still lose. Cut loose guys who aren't performing up to their contract and get some new blood in to see what happens. If they keep the current crew, well...what is the definition of insanity again?

throw things at the wall and see what happens isn't exactly 'thinking' either.
that made up very little of the salary cap? Every team has signings like this every year and some work out and some don’t. Threads regarding DG and his signings and draftings should be balanced and not just one sided to criticism.
Let’s please focus on things that mattter. This doesn’t mattter.

It is astonishing how much interest this generates.
This is like prioritizing fixing your dented mailbox over fixing your broken refrigerator.

Someone's been thinking about me quite a bit!
Seems like Stewart's on your mind otherwise you wouldn't Â
Reese didn't get praise here? How about In Reese We Trust??
The difference that is starting to show between the two GM's is that one seems fine moving along from mistakes or poor signings, while the other one was more reluctant which compounded the problem.
That doesn't excuse having the poor judgement in the first place, but there is something to be said from recognizing it and changing course.
Reese's failure to change course too many times is what led us from being a SB team to a poor one. Sticking with failed draft picks and poor FA's too long is the main driver on why we are where we have been.
Typically (and you can apply this to most areas of life) you give people in a new position the benefit of doubt until they display a pattern of making the same mistakes repeatedly.
have come onto the thread. He doesn't matter at this point so not sure why the bother.
Unless of course its something else...
Hah, no he's not "on my mind" - it's Giants news and I just wanted to see what the details were.
It's actually pinned at the top of the forum. Not really much of a search to be done here.
I know now that he and Barwin are gone, there will be less opportunity for you to perform your act here each day, but I'm sure you'll find a new trivial pain point to hitch your wagon to next.
as it was, the contract was not a cap killer. But, it was far more than pocket change, ranking just behind the monster cap hit players and well above the typical bottom of the roster players.
To his credit he never signed a bbi universally disliked wtf signing like Stewart. Although I personally disliked Marshall, Jennings and Verdeen signings.

Yeah, Verdeen was the worst!
Reese never signed someone universally disliked? Â
A few of these guys were damn close:
Baas
Schwartz
Harris
Jennings
Vereen
Jerry (twice!)
Herzlich
Ayers
Beason (followed by the restructure!)
JD Walton
etc

You left off my favorite one - Brandon Myers! The ultimate garbage time TE.
I'm not sure I disliked many Giants as much as that guy.

I've asked this before, but who were these free agents and draft picks that stuck around too long?
When you think of the worst free agent signings reese made, how long were they here?
What crappy rookies got second contracts? We're kind of making a sin out of allowing rookies to play out their contracts, which Accorsi did in spades.

Flowers stayed too long, though that was somewhat understandable.
Hart inexplicably overstayed his welcome (many 7th rounders don't make it 1 year)
Beason
Herzlich
JPP was a great player, but they should've moved on after the incident

What was the impact of a 7th round pick staying on the roster for 2 seasons? This seems like making a mountain of a molehill.
Herzlich was a special teams player, and he was good at his job. That one doesn't fit here.
A few of these guys were damn close:

Someone like Schwartz wasn't universally disliked at the time of the signing, most of our reactions were Who? Most of those reactions were mixed at the time of signing.
Lol I forgot about Beason trade and resigning, a psychological self defense mechanism against trauma.
RE: One thing I think most of us have learned is that DG isn't inclined to Â
repeat his mistakes. If a player he signs doesn't produce, he let's him go. That may not seem like much, but it's a step up from his predecessor.
That's doesn't indicate he doesn't repeat mistakes -- it just suggests he doesn't prolong their impact. He may indeed make another Stewart-esque signing this offseason.
as it was, the contract was not a cap killer. But, it was far more than pocket change, ranking just behind the monster cap hit players and well above the typical bottom of the roster players.
He showed no sign of life prior to going on IR.
Hence the derision.
I was simply confused not only by the amount of the contract, but by how unnecessary that amount likely was. Do we have reason to believe another team was close to that contract? And if a team was, did we really need Stewart enough to outbid them?
It's not the signing so much as what it represents that worries me, and I just hope we don't see another remotely like it.

arc thinks he will because GMs all need to fill the bottom of their rosters. Therefore they all make these mistakes.
Jackrabbit or Vernon?

Yea, but... the premium edge rushers Nick Bosa, Josh Allen and Rashawn Gary may already be gone!
Heck Mike, he had 6 carries for 17 yards, even 1 run for 5!

It was horrible contract from the start, 3.5 million for Stewart? Everyone knew it but DG

Yes, that's who I was thinking of (unfortunately).
To arc's reply as to the most hated FA/signings, I think the Beason re-signing ranks high, very high

He played 33 career games as a Giant. That's 2 seasons worth of work plus 1 game.
Since when does the GM set the depth chart? That's coaching.
