Deapite the headline...1. Doesn't at all deny interest in the Knicks so the headline is misleading 2. He's not wrong but this would not play in NY. The pitchforks would be out with the way the Knicks are covered. I like KD and always have but I do think he's handling this poorly.

Frank Isola is somewhere smiling looking at his potential prey.
He really needs to learn to say the bare minimum like Eli. I mean as great as Durant is (and he is) he's the megastar with this "sensitive" reputation. Lebron is his own "thing" but guys like Westbrook, AD etc don't get it like this. I'm not even putting this on him but he has to proactively change the narrative. What's the old saying.. never argue with a man who buys ink by the barrel?
he is not saying that this year...
And also maybe sign a deal thats not for one year if you dont want to constantly be asked FA stuff.
I don't think he handled that poorly. He wasn't shouting. He was obviously annoyed, but he didn't say anything disrespectful. He seemed more tired of answering the same stuff rather than he had soft skin or whatever.
Last year there was zero noise
Show up, work hard, play hard. Can't ask for more.

In theory yes. To not speak to the media for over a week MAKES it a story whether it's fair or not. Being available but boring is the way you need to go see Eli, Jeter, David Wright.

Kevin Durant’s decision in free agency 3 years ago changed the entire NBA landscape. Franchises altered plans because they knew they couldn’t beat the Warriors in a certain window. He doesn’t have to talk about it but I hope he understands why people are interested in this stuff."

Seems valid to me. After Morant there seems to be a significant drop off and the young Knicks are all good but are "good" not great prospects.

Nevertheless, league sources believe the Pelicans don’t see the Knicks as having a strong enough package to offer for Davis, unless they win either the first or second pick in May’s lottery.

I agree with you. I am just saying reading "league sources believe" means it isn't the Pelicans so who knows what the Pelicans are really thinking.
i will laugh if no one picks him up when he is cut
How shocking. And by "shocking", I mean incredibly predictable.

interest in Kanter per a source

I'm sure someone will. He can still provide offense down low but damn is his stock down. I'm assuming he lands (next season) with a bad team desperate to spend their money.

I don't really think this is true. If he was a POS criminal, sure. But the guy gets annoyed a dumb questions, who cares. He'd be fine.

Agreed. Good point.
Probably a lot of bird shit on there too.
he was not mad at the line of questioning he was mad at the reporter for saying he talked to kd and put words in his mouth...
I hope pro athletes band together and boycott this shit. Do fans actually care about this crap? I want to watch games and hear about actual trades and signings.
I'm not sure Durant can handle NY and being THE guy. I have serious reservations about how he handles adversity because it seems to be not well at all.
He won't have guys like Harden, Russ, Steph or Draymond to pass the buck off to when things get rough here. If he comes here, even WITH Kyrie, he is going to be the no-doubt Alpha dog here and the guy expected to carry the Knicks.
I don't like the media either - but they're relentless here and when there's blood in the water, forget it. How is Durant going to respond when times get rough? I have serious pause.

i will say it again, he did not go off because of the line of questioning...
He went off on 1 specific writer who put words in kds mouth and spun it and acted like he talked to kd...
This had nothing to do with getting criticized, a month earlier he sat there and talked free agency with the knicks writers..
Even the biggest KD fan has to admit that the Knicks would be a unique situation for him. This would be the largest market he's played in, and he'd have to carry more weight here than he's ever carried before (barring the very beginning of his career)
He just doesn't seem like a guy who handles adversity well to me.
When OKC lost to GSW a couple years ago after being up 3-1, Durant seemed to vanish when the moment was biggest.
Westbrook's lightning-rod persona took a lot of heat off him. And in Golden State, there is no adversity. All they've done since hes been there is win and they were an established winner before he arrived - not a franchise that has been in peril for decades and desperately seeking a savior
This is going to be a MUCH different animal for him.
I think his plan is to go to the Knicks if things line up right. I also think that plan can change very quickly.
DSJ/Frank/Mudiay
Klay/Trier/Dotson
Durant/Knox/?

Deandre/Robinson
If you have a GF and your friends start kidding you some other girl you have zero interest in, you laugh it off. But if they start kidding you about girl you are very attracted to, it starts to annoy you.
But the Knicks are the ultimate toy for the uber wealthy in the middle of the city with the richest individuals in the world. I think 4 billion is a conservative estimate and it could always be a group headlined by 1 person.
But Knicks fan should be careful what they wish for. The last thing we need is another Wilpon in this city who refuse to spend money...Dolan is bad at alot of things but he's never left finances play any role in the teams roster.
And it's official
Well that’s a great idea but IMO guyskikenthst had a lot of great support and role models. Some of these kids have heard they were the greatest ever since they were 12. Get to the big stage and nowjace to deal w media assholes who will be total Scumbags. And not every athlete is smart and savvy verbally. Many of the media guys are vermin these days. Like the movie says. The only way to win is not to play.

Matthews was a buyout. I think Kanter is a straight release.
I know that this wasn’t your main point but I think many overstate the supposed big bad nyc media market. These pro athletes have been facing unreal pressure since high school. It’s It’s in their bones at this point. I don’t think an athlete is avoiding the because of pressure or the media. They were avoiding this franchise because the Knicks never ever ever had ample cap room except once, back when they signed stat. And I guess melo.
Again, you didn’t say this but a lot of people insist that the Knicks haven’t been able to lure the star FA but the Knicks haven’t really had a chance to lure anyone. And there’s pressure everywhere.

And if you ask me, I would bet money that he won't come here.

you're forgetting 2016 when they had plenty of cap room and couldn't' even get in to see Durant when he was taking meetings in the Hamptons.
And the year before that they had cap room when they signed Lopez, Derrick Williams, KOQ, and Afflalo.

you mean the same way lebron did not sign with lakers before he went to miami...
if you cant see difference between 2016 kd and now i font know what to tell yoi
My main point is that KD coming to NY and being the top dog here would be unlike anything he's taken on in his career yet. The Warriors aren't even his team - they established all of that before he got there and were already good enough to win titles. There's literally zero pressure on him there. There's 3 other big name players he can pass the buck to - and they still had all sorts of drama and issues earlier in the year.
There's not going to be a lightning-rod persona like Russ here to keep attention off him, either. He doesn't like being asked tough questions and doesn't seem to respond well when there's heat on him.
I'd have concerns about how he'd respond here if he had to face adversity and be the guy taking the majority of the blame.
He's the 2nd best player in the league and I'd surely take him - I just feel like everyone's setting themselves up for another major disappointment this summer if/when he doesn't come here.

I can't even understand what you're trying to say.
But I'll just assume it's the typical fanboy bullshit you usually post.
KD has his rings and now he can take on a new challenge and try to win one on his own...
if he did not have rings zero chance he signs with knicks...
And you call me a fanboy, before the knicks opened 2 slots i said there was zero chance kd would sign here but yes i am fan boy...
i would rather be a fan boy then a negative little fuck every single day of my life

If he was cpming by himself i would agree with you, but he can pick his sidekick
I'll still have my concerns about how KD would fare here, but I'm not stupid enough to say I wouldn't pursue him as a result.
Keep our picks. Keep our players. Sign FAs.
He had problems with the OKC media, the OKC media lol.
If the Knicks can get him, then go get him. But his inability to take criticism will be a major issue if he plays for the Knicks.
Keep our picks. Keep our players. Sign FAs.
I think that would be the ideal situation. AD is great, but having some young players on cheaper contracts to mix with high priced free agents and vets that come for the minimum would keep the cupboard stocked.
I think Durant cares a great deal about how he's perceived and I absolutely think he's soft.
They have the coach every player in the league loves, they have the cap space and potentially the number 1 pick, they have some good young players...
Doesnt happen this offseason it will never happen
He's a tactician on the court. He made probably one of the most unpopular decisions in sports ever and he had ice in his veins in the championships following.
He clearly cares a lot but he can focus that energy on the court. I think it would take an almost inconceivable amount of bad press before fan 1 turned on KD after coming to NY.
And even if he was booed at home (which I also consider to be a scant chance) i'm not sure it would affect his play.
Let's not conflate a desire to be liked off the court and play on the court when there has been zero evidence of this to date.
I think he would be fine, there would be such a long honeymoon that he would be treated like a king just for coming here and if he brought someone with him they would win so he wouldnt have to worry....
What adversity is he dealing with there?
They're defending Champs, they have several titles in the last few years, and they're probably going to win again this year.
The Knicks have been in peril for like 25 years. This fan base is desperately seeking a savior.
The Warrior fans were not. They didn't need Durant. He was a luxury that made their team unfairly good.
We NEED him because we haven't won jack shit in 50 years. There will be no grace period here. Knicks fans are starved for success.
It's not large/small market thing. NY is different than any other local media market I've lived in or spent considerable time in. The media in NY loves trashing the teams. Absolutely loves it. For the most part every other market will write puff pieces about you until you leave town or horribly miss expectations year after year. The national media is a different beast and is much more similar to how NY operates.
There is criticism everywhere, but only in NY it seems like a competition who can shit on the local teams the hardest. Than you have the interesting rivalry between each teams designated lackeys in media vs those reporters.
If I am correct on that premise then you'd have to think he and his team have had some time to think about what the media, fanbase and reactions will be and how to best handle that. Whether he can or not, I don't know.
Quote:
Bay Area isn't exactly a small market. Durant deals with a ton of media attention and scrutiny from both the local and national media. The Warriors and Durant have done just fine.
What adversity is he dealing with there?

that is why it only works if he comes with a 2nd guy or the knicks trade for AD...
The one positive thing you can say about Dolan in this situation is that if there were ever an organization that was willing to insulate their guys from the media, the Knicks would be the one. Don't like what Stefan Bondy has to say? Don't let him in the building. Sick of Frank Isola criticizing the organization? Keep him away from the team. Durant won't be grilled by the media because the Knicks, for good or for bad, have never let the local media treat their team that way.
Interesting since Begley said they had no interest in trading Frank. I wonder who's right.
On another way more important note, did anyone listen to Lowe's podcast today? He had Marks on and they were talking about how Knick fans would riot if this summer goes wrong for them. Marks commented that it still could go wrong and Lowe replied "we'll see" in such a way that he was clearly indicating that he knows something and it isn't going to go wrong.

LOL. I almost fell off the treadmill laughing when Lowe said that because I legitimately, 100% could see that happening. I might even join in.
