Kanter is he was traded to NYK during a contract year and upset about not getting playing time during a tank. Much harder to be sympathetic when he voluntarily opts-in to an obvious rebuilding situation because the option is favorable to him and then gets upset when things don't go his way.

Eh, maybe. More likely that there just weren't many matches. We were giving up ezpiring deals but didn't want to take on salary. On top of that we wanted picks. How many teams out tuere have expiring players that have similar salaries as our expiring contracts and had picks to give? It probably wasn't many. As much as I was hoping for some second round picks it just didn't seem like we had many potential matches.
I watch almost all the games and...

He always played hard, maybe his defense wasn’t the best but it improved. He wanted to be here which is great but I think in today’s NBA a true low post center is not a full time position anymore. Good luck to him. I don’t he ever quit on his team.
I like Kanter
steve in ky : 2/7/2019 6:01 pm : link
Not a right fit for what this team is trying to do but the guy was more into and had more pride being a NY Knick than most players that have passed through this team.

Yes his defense was weak but then that's so for many players today; he isn't alone in that regard. But one thing nobody can't take away from him was his knack for getting a rebound. I wish him well.
KP & Kanter we’re both a pain in the ass..

eh, at the end of the day he was all about himself. Which is fine. I get it - he's in a contract year. But compare how he handled getting benched vs. how Lee handled it.
I agree he didn't handle himself well at the end.

Losing player and sideshow me-first type of personality. Guys like him are terrible for teams. He's a guy straight out of that book ODDBALLS by Bruce Shlain.
Best of luck to him
wigs in nyc : 2/8/2019 12:12 am : link
he played hard. He seemed to have a lot going on personally, the outgrowths of which I’ve become a lot more forgiving of over the years.

While I think that I probably wouldnt find it too terribly difficult to just keep quiet and ball for $18m/yr, I also understand that I dont really live in the same world as these overgrown-children-multi-millionaires.
Kanter was like an attractive girl with a questionable personality.
JustaDiscussion : 2/8/2019 5:23 am : link
At first glance everything is amazing, but the more you get to know them the more you realize that there are deep seeded issues that just don't help the relationship.

Matthews was terrible for the 2 games he played for the Knicks. He was a combined 4-19. I know it was a small sample size, but I'm very glad the Knicks are deciding to stick with their plan to play the young guys.

This quote from Ian Begley on espn.com makes me very happy: "The Orlando Magic expressed interest in Frank Ntilikina prior to the trade deadline but the club was told that New York was not trading the second-year guard, per league sources."

hope the clippers miss the playoffs, that takes away a pick for the celtics...

say knicks get 2 or 3..which would you rather have:

Tatum, brown, kings pick, memphis pick and another future pick

or

Knox, frank, kjicks pick, 2 future mavs picks and 1 more future first?
id prolly lean boston..
Italianju : 2/8/2019 8:17 am : link
cause tatum is the safest asset there. But its really close. Thing is it would be up to Davis at that point. No way that BOS offers all of that without knowing he resigns. If AD would rather NY then the packages are close enough that NO prolly takes the knicks.

i out the best assets on the table because not fair to take tatum off and not knicks 2019 pick...

I have no idea if boston would put tatum on the table...

I’m not very high on Tatum or Brown. Yeah Tatum will probably be an all star at some point, but the way the media talks about him you’d think he’s a future MVP candidate and I just don’t think he’ll be anywhere close to that.
The crazy thing

DSJR and Robinson have to be part of the trade as well to fit AD's salary of 27 million (assuming Knicks sign two max FAs).

The real clincher for the Knicks is their pick this year if it's a top 3.

Isn't this kind of a narrative too?

You're basing this on past failures of people who aren't running things. I don't blame you for feeling that way, but the reality is it's not the same scenario as aged Donnie Walsh getting wheeled into a meeting with Lebron in 2010.

thats 76 mill, plus dont we owe lance like a mill or something? And then a few cap holds? I think it would be hard to keep DSJ unless KD or Irving were willing to throw us back a few mill.

that is around 5 million to work with, fill out the roster with vet minmums...

nyg16, you cannot just eyeball the NBA cap with players. Who are we trading for AD? Does it fit in that 125% rule or whatever it is? Keeping DSJ doesn't work if we are going to trade for him. Then you have to add up all the vet min contracts. Also, the cap is 109 I think not 110.

it would be agreed to around draft time...

knicks would sign draft pick wait 30 days to make trade official...

sign kd and irving july 1st

Um, the draft is June 20th. How are we waiting 30 days but then sign KD and KI July 1st? That doesn't make sense.
Or is that okay if we are under the cap?

a couple of notes from Begley:
Del Shofner : 2/8/2019 10:55 am : link
The Knicks have 3 open roster spots and will likely look to reward some of their G League players with a 10-day deal. Some to keep an eye on: Billy Garrett (21 PPG in last 5 G), Jameel Warney (18 PPG in 11 G) & Zak Irvin (10 PPG, 8 RPG). The Knicks also have interest in ex-Westchester guard John Jenkins, as the New York Post noted.

The Orlando Magic expressed interest in Frank Ntilikina prior to the trade deadline but the club was told that New York was not trading the second-year guard, per league sources.

GMEN46 : 2/8/2019 2:15 pm : link
And give them not guranteed second year deals for next year. Then use that for space next year to trade for Davis and save Robinson trier Dotson and frank.

Send the following for Davis:

Lance Thomas opt in so that’s $7 mil
Top 3 pick - figure another $7 mil
Smith JR - $4.4 mil
Knox - $4.4 mil
One of the mavs 1st rounders
That’s 22.4 mil and if needed some non guaranteed expirings that we could sign now.

If the 2019 pick is top 3 how can Boston or lakers beat that deal. I understand Tatum upside is great, but knicks would literally be trading 2 former top 10 picks over the past few years that NOla would have control over for a few years, potential top 3 pick and another first rounder.

I guess if Boston includes brown and tatum with the 4 crappy 1st rounders they have. I guess horrtfird expiring would be included as wel.

Lakers offer isn’t even close to knicks offer. I do not like the the upside if any of the Lakers players.

It sucked they stretched Noah that extra $6 mil would be huge. Imagine they could keep Knox or smith jr and send one of them with the lottery pick and 3 other draft picks.

I don’t want Mitchell Robinson included in the deal under any circumstances. He will be so valuable at $1 mil for the next 3 years. He can play center or PF.

How can Mitchell Robinson play power forward? The Knicks offer would likely need to include Knox, maybe Smith and possibly not just our pick in 2019 but two others unless they win the lottery this year. If they wind up at 3, it’d cost a lot imo to win the AD sweepstakes.
