very well done and pretty much accurate. It never mentioned that the horrible Oline in 2018, especially the first half got to Eli. He had to check down often and would miss open receivers in his haste to get the ball out.
And I think a lot of others do as well. The haters just talk louder and more often. Which in turn makes those on the fence or not in the know believe the narrative.
The sub-standard OL and defense are the real problems, thanks to Mara employing Reese and Ross long after both had demonstrated that they should be terminated.
His arm strength really hasn't decline much, but that isn't the problem. He is literally moving around in quicksand back there with his feet.
He also ended the video very strangely. Like he makes this argument that Eli still has it and can get it done but ends with a pass in the Saints game that was pretty much pure luck of a db totally misplaying a ball. It was a hail mary pass on 4th down. That isn't really how you want to cap a video saying Eli still has it.
He is literally moving around in quicksand back there Â
video with that td throw against the Saints......how that was not intercepted was a miracle.....almost saintly....
Yes, Eli is a bit of a gunslinger, and he will have int's because of this....
But there are int's and incompletions that were not talked about in the video....Stupid throws that a veteran qb should not have thrown......but also throws where he is not on the same page as his receiver.....I am sure someone could make a video of those......
But I will agree.....there are many talking heads out there that just look at seasonal stats, and not what may or may not have affected them.....
In 2017, no OL, no running game, no receivers......but that didn't apparently matter, it had to be Eli.....
In 2018, the defense was worse.....the OL sucked in the first half of the season, but had some reasonable stability in the second half....the running game would have been non existent again, if not for some guy named Barkley, who had the ability to make something out of nothing, and turn what would have been 5-10 yard gains, into first downs and td's....
Eli's stats in the first half were poor, as was the OL....when it improved in the second half, so did his td totals, despite the fact that he did not have OBj for the final 4 games.....
So the question is, does Eli have anything left? He is another year older, so physically the chances of him getting better in that department are slim......but I too have wondered, what would he do with a decent OL in front of him....OBj did not have one of his better years....an OL, SB, and a healthy OBj, who knows?
If Eli is in the plans for 2019, then put an OL in front of him, and then see what he has left....the catch-22 to this is, if Eli and the team are successful, what happens in 2020?
Hey Gramps you might want to dust off your dictionary. If you are going to be a dick you better check to make sure you are at least right. Nothing worse than an old fool.
one would want before settling on todays version of Eli Manning. That wasn't so years ago.
There are as many holes in Eli's game as there are on the Giant team. So the talent you need to surround Eli with in order for him to succeed is unrealistic. Most QB's would do well if everything was stellar
That was an eloquent and rational presentation. Thank you to whoever that was for taking the time to make that video. The false narrative on Eli is hard to stomach

I can even live with Halapio and Brown...replace Wheeler....and maybe, just maybe, we finally have the OL we need for Eli.... Barkley will shine even more.
Go heavy defense in draft.
Saquan Barkley and change of scheme made a huge difference.... Â
Yep, we can't have Wheeler start another year. I'm ok with Brown if they don't overpay. Need a center, I'd draft one. Halapio hasn't really showed us anything.

I watched Eli stare down his receiver after the snap all game. Now does he have a case of David Carr Syndrome? Is the trust in his line so bad that he doesn't want to take the time to look off his receivers? I don't know... but that's the biggest thing I noticed this season, he's not seeing the field the same way, it appears he has slowed down in that aspect.

if all one has to do to "prove" something is say they watched a game and Eli locked into his receivers and missed a bunch of them all game long, what's the standard for disproving the horseshit?
I've been on BBI long enough not to trust too much in what people say they see.

that any QB locks into a target all game long at anything above the HS level is an asinine comment.
You tell me you are watching the game and can see where the QB is staring, and this is what you are focusing on when watching the game? Even scouts have to go back and watch film to figure out if QB's made good decisions or "stared down" receivers.
Unless I'm specifically focused on looking for something, I can't see those types of things in real time, nor would I be able to spend an entire game focusing on it.
Of course I call bullshit. Then seeing the source, I call double bullshit.

I love the fact posters say "x" person is wide open... when they dont take into consideration where the QB is looking, under and over the top coverages, and how the defense reacts once the ball was thrown.
I guaranteed Eli missed a few WRs that game. All QBs do. But all game long? Lol.... ok.

Eli has never been a guy to stare down his receivers Â
Although in his shell shocked years it seems to pop up from time to time. To make a statement that Eli is staring down receivers all game makes him sound like Davis fucking Webb.

Eli has always had a problem staring down receivers Â
That’s why he has 240 career ints..Guys like Darren Sharper and Asante Samuel picked off Eli all the time seemingly. We got lucky in the 2007 Super Bowl where Samuel dropped a INT thrown right to him on that final drive
The Eli homers will tell you it’s Gilbride the receivers etc. everyone else and not the guy throwing the ball

I know you throw me in the hater crowd. I LOVE the guy, jersey in the closet. He just isn't the same. Look at his feet in this clip. I watched yours..The first throw to Shepard is short, look how open he is, could have have been a TD. The second pass in your video, every high school QB could make, Engram is wide open. The third pass is a nice throw. For a video trying to say he still has "it" there is not enough current evidence to make the case. Of course he has some good highlights, Blake Bortles does too. I miss the guy from 2011, he could make big time throws while getting killed. He was the best players on the field in San Francisco, made everyone around him better. He is never the best player on the field anymore. Fearless - ( New Window )

Nobody is claiming he is still the best player on the field. Nor does he have to be. And btw nor is he paid to be. His salary this year is probably ried for the 10th sport and barely making than the likes of Alex Smith, Keenum, and Bortles. The question to me is if you have a good OL with a run-centric offense using play action off that, can Eli and the offense be effective. The second half of the season answers that with a resounding yes. Even with an OL that had only improved to mediocre, this offense scored a lot of points and eli was successful and the offense scored a lot of points. Improve the OL and that makes SB even more effective, which in turn, makes Eli even more effective.

It is possible you are correct. It is also possible that the teams we were playing and circumstances around those games lead to our late season success. I think Eli starts in 2019 and we will find out. I am not terribly interested in what happened after 1-7, we failed miserably when the games mattered. There is no carry over from one season to the next.

Eli homers? You can't blame the QB for the team's poor play because it is arguably the most important position on all of team sports and not give the QB credit when the team wins the championship. Eli was a HoF QB during his prime, he just isn't anymore.
I know right? Whenever I see some dude critique someone's grammar or spelling on football fan site I feel sorry for their wife.
Exactly...he didn't like my post so he decides to attack my use of literally (erroneously) to make it seem like I'm some uneducated moron who shouldn't be taken seriously. It is the shittiest of human behavior.
Almost every advanced metric - from QBR to DYAR - has Eli ranked somewhere in the 22-27 range every season from 2016-2018.
If you think all advanced stats are junk, fine, but then there's the issue of age. It's still within the realm of possibility - with a better OL and another year in the scheme - that Eli can improve and play around league average or slightly above it at age 38.
The number of QBs who have put together great seasons at age 39, however, are few and far between. Brady and Moon did it (physical freaks), and Brees just did it but fell off pretty hard in the 2nd half of the season and in the playoffs. Elway, Montana, Simms, Warner, and Marino all retired after their age 38 seasons (to clarify: the seasons where they were 38 when the first game was played).
If the Giants don't love a QB in this draft or want Eli to start and mentor a rookie, by all means have him play out his contract. Any commitment to 2020 and beyond, however, would be ill-advised.
Also, I would recommend having tempered expectations about first half vs. second half of season performances. As other posters have pointed out, second half performances rarely carry over, and usually the better indicator is the entire 16 game sample.
RE: Eli has always had a problem staring down receivers Â

I said we got lucky he wasn’t picked by Samuel,I never not gave Eli credit he was tremendous in the playoffs after leading the league in INT that season.. Eli was never a HOF QB never all pro never league MVP never even received votes for the MVP in any year, let’s not re write history . Giants HOF yes pro football HOF I doubt it no matter how many times this message board calls him one
He hung 30 on one of the better defenses in that game. Might want to pick a different game than that one.
Eli and the whole offense were trying to “figure it out” the first half of the year (as their coach and GM expected). So I would look at how they performed against the better defenses in the second half of the year for an indication of what the offense “could” do. If most of the starters return their would be some carryover because of familiarity.
And I believe a few DB's, mentioned that during the year.....and no, I do not have their names, but I do remember a few stating they followed Eli'a eyes, because that was where the ball was going...
And eating it when the Giants won 2 SBs... is now telling ripple wht Eli is and isn’t. 19 years old now. 7 when we won our first super bowl. 11 years old when we won our 2nd...
But he knew what a HOF qb was when his mommy was reading him a bedtime story. Fucking classic.
He's average now. This is what happens when players decline, they occasionally show you glimpses of the past. He's still capable of having awesome games, but far less frequently.
Personally, i don't want to see him back because i think we are definitely picking a quarterback. Eli does not deserve a mid season benching and it very well may happen if they do, in fact, take a highly ranked qb. Maybe they take a hard line stance and say he will finish this year out. Who knows.
If they shore up the line some more, he'll be serviceable. He really isn't the biggest issue right now nor is he close. Our defense is swiss cheese right now.
I put blame on the front office. They tried making him into Aaron Rodgers. They picked an offensive system that does not fit his game. No one talks about this - even aside from the offensive line being bad, Eli's strength was never short routes.
BUT, they finally woke up in the 2nd half and realized power run game with a heavy dose of play action works. Shurmur had a good gameplan against Jacksonsville but got away from it.
It bothers me to no end we have a top 5 wr and rb and the offense still struggles. If we're gonna suck i want to at least be entertained haha.
The last thing people will want us to take in the draft is a tight end, but man this team could use a stud dual threat tight end in a bad way. Belichick really loved him some Bavaro huh. Gronk is an absolute beast in the run game.
Worth the watch, IMO.
He also ended the video very strangely. Like he makes this argument that Eli still has it and can get it done but ends with a pass in the Saints game that was pretty much pure luck of a db totally misplaying a ball. You tell me you are watching the game and can see where the QB is staring, and this is what you are focusing on when watching the game? Even scouts have to go back and watch film to figure out if QB's made good decisions or "stared down" receivers.

I love the fact posters say "x" person is wide open... when they dont take into consideration where the QB is looking, under and over the top coverages, and how the defense reacts once the ball was thrown.
I guaranteed Eli missed a few WRs that game. All QBs do. But all game long? Lol.... ok.

And you're still a double douchebag. I'm just saying what I saw, I don't give a fat fuck what you believe. Go be an internet tough guy on another thread with another poster.
You also sound like a fucking moron, but that's par for the course.
Jerkoff, I was at the game, 1st row end zone... where were you?

I was in box seats with the Giants brass.
Come on, no doubt a man who SAW WHAT HE SAW. Especially with 10-15 beers in him.

It's "grammar". Literally.
The Eli homers will tell you it’s Gilbride the receivers etc. everyone else and not the guy throwing the ball

Not in my book.

This thread is hilarious
I know right? Whenever I see some dude critique someone's grammar or spelling on football fan site I feel sorry for their wife.
Exactly...he didn't like my post so he decides to attack my use of literally (erroneously) to make it seem like I'm some uneducated moron who shouldn't be taken seriously. It is the shittiest of human behavior.
See, this is text book Eli hate. I'm sure you were very disappointed Samuel "dropped" that INT.
5 years from now, some of these fucking schmucks will be talking about how Samuel was hit in the numbers and cost the Pats a win!
Quote:
That’s why he has 240 career ints..Guys like Darren Sharper and Asante Samuel picked off Eli all the time seemingly. We got lucky in the 2007 Super Bowl where Samuel dropped a INT thrown right to him on that final drive
The Eli homers will tell you it’s Gilbride the receivers etc. everyone else and not the guy throwing the ball
Eli homers? You can't blame the QB for the team's poor play because it is arguably the most important position on all of team sports and not give the QB credit when the team wins the championship. Eli was a HoF QB during his prime, he just isn't anymore.
He hung 30 on one of the better defenses in that game. Might want to pick a different game than that one.
And I believe a few DB's, mentioned that during the year.....and no, I do not have their names, but I do remember a few stating they followed Eli'a eyes, because that was where the ball was going...
But he knew what a HOF qb was when his mommy was reading him a bedtime story. Fucking classic.
This is sho'nuff a keeper.
