Imagine getting the payday you've been working towards your entire career, signing it, getting on a plane to relocate, and then dying as your plane crashes en route to your new job.
That's what happened to Argentinian footballer Emiliano Sala. He had been the top scorer for his French club Nantes for three years, signed an $18M dela to transfer to Cardiff City, and as he flew from France to the UK, he tragically plummetted into the English Channel.
His body was just recovered yesterday.
Outside of the similarities of a plane crash and Clemente dying right on 3,000 hits, I have to think this ranks up there with one of the most tragic deaths in sports history.
Marshall football would be at the top for me.
Thurman’s death also was sad, even for this young Mets fan at the time.
As a father I can't fathom living knowing that my son's last moments were in fear.
“We’re up in the plane and it seems it’s about to crash,” said the message, which Clarin said was verified by Sala’s father, Horacio Sala.
“If you have not heard anything from me in an hour and a half, I don’t know if they’re going to send someone to find me, because, you know, they’re not going to be able to,” the message said. “Dad. I’m really scared.”"
Tragic...

Haven't seen that. That is eerie.
Just breaks your heart...
