draft, should they use their other picks to trade down and accumulate picks for 2020? I think they would almost have to because they can't afford not to get their guy in 2020.
I think that the player who would make the biggest impact would be Josh Allen LB Kentucky. Matching Allen with Lorenzo Carter would immediately improve the defense pass rush, coverage for RB, TE, run defense on the perimeter.
they take an ER at 6 if not QB. In rounds 2 to 7 the Giants will have the opportunity to entertain offers for 2020 picks to move down. The Giants have extra picks this year, they will need them next year if they still need a QB. If you go into the 2020 draft with possibly no starting QB, you better be prepared to be aggressive and get your man. Extra picks will help to allow that.
EVER in a draft. Obviously he doesn't believe in it, so I say it will not happen
This is history and do not see it happening this year, He believes in trading up for players he really likes. Expect the same scenario again. He looks at loads of film and then hones in on the players he rates the best for his scheme.
There are 3 players i would select before Haskins this year Â
Haskins becomes player number 4. If those 4 are gone, then i would try to trade down.
Next year isn't a thought, trade down for the best deal you can get, if that is this year or next doesn't matter.
No one was talking about Haskins or Murray or even Lock during the 2018 draft. Now they are all talked about as 1st round picks. Next year is an unknown.
If the Giants draft a qb this year they will become the new Browns, Â
drafting and bringing in used up qbs for the next 15 years! Too many very good defensive players available this year and some very good olineman also in this draft.

What has he been the GM for, a total of maybe four drafts? Unless there is a quote where he states he doesn't believe in ever doing so all that is obvious is that in those four drafts trading down didn't take place. Maybe he doesn't prefer doing so, maybe there wasn't the opportunity to do so, or maybe there was the opportunity but teams didn't offer enough to entice him. We simply don't know.
Each off season the GM has to try to make the team better. He has to put the best team he can on the field each and every year. He has to evaluate the free agents and draft prospects objectively and formulate a plan for that off season. I wish that the draft came before the FA period because then teams could truly take their best available player instead of trying to fills holes in the draft. The draft is supposed to be for the future. It would be best to take your draft choices and the fill any remaining holes in FA, but teams are forced to try filling all of their holes in FA so that they can enter the draft without any glaring needs. This is tough to do, so teams end up reaching for guys to fill a need in the first two or three rounds. They usually end up hating themselves later when the player busts & they see what they could've had.
We know that Gettleman still believes in Eli. He won't create a controversy just because the world thinks he needs to choose a QB. If he has a conviction on a QB he will follow it, but he proved last year that he is all about adding the best talent he can while hopefully filling a need. We know he wants to fix the offensive line and the front seven on D. This is a great draft for defensive help. I am hoping for some veteran free agents at RT, FS & SS (if we don't sign Collins), 2nd WR, TE, and a better veteran 2nd QB than we have.
If we chose Haskins at 6 I would be happy because I like him and I believe in him. I don't want to pass on a great prospect because of some hope about getting a guy in 20' or 21', but I also don't care to trade up into the top 5. What if Eli gets protection from an improved line and has a great year?? He could play here another two or three years if he continues to stay healthy as he's always done. The guy has never had any sort of injury to speak of. He's amazing. I'd almost like to just ride it out with Eli and a guy like Jones. If we trade up from 37 for a developmental QB we might be better off. There would be good chemistry there.
OL in round 2. When you need your QB just like with Eli trade future ones and others and try to get Sunshine Lawrence
I’d be happy with this plan
Great plan let’s hope for a QB 2 years from now.. oh yeah and some team will just trade away the pick to the Giants.. You people live in a fantasy world

You can’t say that to the Eli supporters. Here’s the only plan they will support - let’s draft Eli’s nephew in 2027 - when Eli is 47 and possibly ready to wind down his career. At that point, maybe, just maybe, someone in the front office - and the Eli apologists - will be able to admit we actually need a QB.
I love this assumption we’ll just get a QB next year. How? If we can, it’s going to be because we suck, which means that keeping Eli was the wrong move. If Eli doesn’t suck, we won’t be in position to draft one, and we likely won’t even be able to move up and get one.
But hey, let’s ignore the facts and just kick the can down the road.

The Giants have won 3 and 5 games the last few seasons and somehow these people think the QB play has nothing to do with it.. All I can do is voice my opinion and hope one day the Giants can return to glory and no longer be the laughingstock they’ve become
Majority of QBs in the last 3 drafts taken in the first round were based off trades. But facts aren’t enough for those who make false claim after false claim.

The Browns won 7 games last year and have their QB for the next 10 years. So your point? It is about drafting the right one.

I also hate the idea of any plan that centers around next years draft. So much can change in a years time.
