Video 1939 NFL Championship: NYG at GB...

...notice at the beginning of YouTube video how the announcer is trying to hype the pro game by saying it's as exciting as college football! Also check out these QBs slinging the ball like a side-armer throwing from Laredo. Alas, not a good day for the Giants!

lol.

And look at the goal posts - the uprights look like they're about 3 feet hight.

at 4:00...I’ve never seen this play before, and it’s nicely executed.

I don't know about the pro game, but the New Rochelle High School football team have been running that inside reverse hand-off for years.

Looks like a TE reverse out of a 2-TE set, with a FB and Hback on the strong side. Engram would be the perfect TE to carry the ball, too.
Somebody email Shurm, get this into the playbook...call it the ‘39 special.
Notice no leading with the head

and the full wrap tackling. Even though the plastic helmet was introduced in 1939, it was poor quality plastic (it tended to shatter), so it wasn't generally adopted for another 10 years.

Players back then knew how to protect their head, and used proper blocking/tacking techniques. They knew if they used their head as a weapon wearing a leather helmet, they weren't going to last long.

E.X.A.C.T.L.Y.

I've always maintained that the NFL would cut down on concussions if they mandated players go out there without a helmet. A little extreme, but I think it proves a point!
