NFT: True Detective - with Spoilers...Two Episodes Left...

LarmerTJR : 2/11/2019 9:45 am
So, what do we think? Lots of info out there in this week...
Big reveals last night.
BigBlueDownTheShore : 2/11/2019 9:47 am : link
Seems like Hoyt bough Julie from the mother. Hoyt's daughter lost her own daughter. Seems like Julie was sold for a sum of money to the mother.

The mother was killed by Hout when she came back years later looking for more money, but they made it look like a drug overdose.

The mother wrote the ransom note to comfort Tom because she knew she sold her to Hoyt.

The Cousin was in on selling of Julie.

Tom is gay. Which explains why his wife sleeps around and why Julie probably isn't his daughter.

The detective that went missing in 1990 worked the case originally and more then likely planted the evidence. He's the guy we see when Tom walks into the Pink Room.

I think we are going to see that they figured this all out in 1990 and because of his dimentia he is just reliving the story again. They probably killed the crooked cop and he feels guilty about it thus why he keeps harping on it in his dimensia.
How is this season?
Cap'n Bluebeard : 2/11/2019 9:55 am : link
I loved season 1, didn't make it through season 2. Mahershala Ali is a great actor, but haven't checked it out yet.
Ali has been good, but...
LarmerTJR : 2/11/2019 10:00 am : link
I think Stephen Dorf has been a revelation. He has been fantastic.
Agree that Dorf is kinda stealing the show.
j_rud : 2/11/2019 10:45 am : link
At the very least he steals every scene hes in, even with Ali.
So besides the

acting. What does everyone think of last nights episode and where we are heading?
With all the theories that were out there
figgy2989 : 2/11/2019 11:56 am : link
Hoyt was the one that was being talked about the least in my opinion.

Setting up for a great final two episodes. Can't believe Hays' kid was dinging the reporter.
Any guesses at what actually happened to Amelia

and Hays' daughter?
As I stated in last week's thread.....

Think bigger people.

The Ozark Children's Outreach Foundation and Hoyt Foods here in TD Season 3 = Tuttle Ministries/Light of Way School in TD Season 1. There's an evil machine that's in play here orchestrating the whole thing.

Well yeah it's quite obvious Hoyt Foods is the main culprit of this whole ordeal
Wish they weren't taking the case
bceagle05 : 2/11/2019 12:20 pm : link
down the exact same road as season one, but there's still plenty of intrigue surrounding the main players and their families, which is what the show is really about anyway.

One gripe I had about last night's episode was the diner meeting between the detectives and cousin Dan. Does anyone actually buy that Roland and Wayne would just let that guy drive off without getting the info from him, even if it meant beating it out of him like Tom did later on? I thought that was a stretch, given their obsession with solving the case.

I'm starting to feel like whatever Hayes did in 1990 is the key to the season or at least the most interesting part of it for me. At times the three timelines feels a little gimmicky but depending on what Hayes did and covered up there's an opportunity to really lend weight to the 2015 timeline and really impact the entire season. I think it's going to end up being something really bad, like reprehensible bad. And I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with his wife. Not like he killed her or anything. But the demons he has and the drive to see things through at his old age suggest it's something pretty heavy and it might change the way we look at the character and the entire season.
Anyone think Roland might have had

an affair with Tom? Thus, why Roland has no kids and had a failed marriage.

I don’t think so. Pretty sure Roland was never married, was just dating long term. I think whatever happened in 1990 messed him up so bad that he retreated and remained isolated for 25 years.
Two

questions that have not been answered yet. What happened to Hayes wife. Is she alive ? Also, why wont's Haye's daughter speak to him.
Are both of the questions related?

We don’t know what caused the rift between Hayes and Roland. We assume they killed the red headed character and that’s why they just grew apart and why Roland drinks to heavily. It could be that Hayes finds out about a gay relationship with Tom, who was living at his house for a period of time when he was sobering up.

I must have missed that. When were we told that?

Anyone think that Elisa the director

bears something of a resemblance to Julie, or what Julie might look like all grown up? Or am I just reaching?

I thought that 2 or 3 episodes ago. The reporter is Julie hence why she seems so invested in this story

I thought that at one point. She is way too young. At this point, Julie would be in her late 30s or 40s.
What about the black dude with the cloudy eye?

I wonder what he knows and how he’s involved with Hoyt if he was the one who handed the kids the dolls.

Did anyone else notice the camera randomly flash to a guy coming out of a pickup truck while Emelia was talking to the young abused girl? Feels like it wasn’t totally random, maybe that guy comes up later.
Carmen Ejogo (the woman who plays Amelia)

is a total smokeshow....wow.....doesn't look near 45 years old either
the guy in the pickup truck
oghwga : 2/12/2019 11:44 am : link
was the boy with the puppy to whose house they said they were going in the opening episode. So he would have known Julie and vice versa. She may be with him in the 1990 timeline
Weird that the cop guy turned security head
mattnyg05 : 2/12/2019 12:41 pm : link
told Hays he had a “nice body”. That seemed like a weird comment. I was wondering there if that was some kind of gay connection to Tom. Probably not.

She wouldn't be in her 30s. If she was 10 in 1980, she'd be in her mid 40s in 2015.

Could be Julies daughter though
