Was a rotational guy mostly in Philly. He might not have the wear and tear as most edge rushers. The previous regime liked him back in the day. He might be a cheaper option to help us out rushing the passer?

No. He's not a good pass rusher. He's a good run stopper. Doesn't fit in a 3-4 and that's part of the reason the Bucs cut him. He's only had over 4 sacks once in his career and that was in 2014. I wouldn't touch him unless he'd sign for the vet minimum.
I think you're better off signing 2 or 3 guys of Curry's level and cost than you are signing one Vernon. Yeah, Curry isn't as good a player, but there's something to be said for having depth and the ability to rotate in fresh pass rushers in the fourth quarter.

Yup & a much less top heavy roster with regards to the cap as well.
Nor is giving Cap crushing contracts to guys who haven never been at that level. Vernon had never played near the level of cash he got before. Then he got injured all the time. You win buy drafting great and fill in w FA judiciously. Neither of Reese’s talents

Yes and no. If you’re adding mid range FA’s to round out an already talented unit then it can work out. But if you’re counting on those guys to be your pass rush then it’s just as bad as a Vernon deal.
I think it’s actually worse from a cap perspective when mid range FA’s don’t work out. There’s no value in a potential trade and they’re usually harder to cut given the minimal cap savings. Guys like Casillas, Thomas, Dwayne Harris, Ellison, etc were w the Giants longer than they should’ve been and cumulatively added up to big money.
I would be ok with kicking the tyres on Vinny Curry as an OLB if he is available for a reasonable contract. He could be a good solid veteran to add to our OLB rotation while we develop younger guys.
I don't think Curry is a quality starter or the saviour for our pass rush, but I think he can contribute as a solid rotation guy. I think Curry can provide the kind of role that we ideally wanted from Connor Barwin.
It is worth noting that our new OLB coach Mike Dawson coached Curry with the Eagles.

The Eagles played a 3-4 under Chip Kelly. Looking at Vinnie Curry's stats is interesting
Curry is certainly a rotational player, but he has proven to be productive in a 3-4 scheme.
It is also worth mentioning that our new OLB coach Mike Dawson was the Eagles assistant Dline coach in 2014 and 2015, so he will have a very good idea of what Vinny Curry brings to the table and how well (or not) he fits into what Bettcher wants to do.
Maybe we can recapture the magic of the Connor Barwin signing. Â
Different players, of course, but their career arcs are pretty similar. By most measures, Barwin was better - at least in a 3-4. I doubt 31-year-old Vinny Curry would be much of an improvement over the 2018 edition of 31-year-old Connor Barwin.
Signing three Vinny Currys is at least as bad as overpaying one Â

I think that might've been Brandon Graham?

If he doesn't want to play for a 3-4...I mean...

that the Giants were going to try and sign him, but Philthy resigned him before he got to free agency.

Could have been, but there was interest in Curry too.

has ever been a winning strategy in the NFL.
People had a cow over Omameah and Stewart, yet would be fine with a strategy of overpaid, older mediocre players?
This place is brutally strange sometimes.

Because you're more protected against injury, you're asking each guy to do less, and you can get out of each contract much more quickly and cheaply.
