If you had to guess

What do you think the Giants do at #6?

IMO it’s gonna come down to three guys. Josh Allen, Clelin Ferrell, and Montez Sweat. In that order. Whichever of these guys is available at #6 will probably be the pick.

I also see the 2nd round pick being a DB. At CB I like Amani Oruwariye, Joejuan Williams, and Julian Love.

At S I like Deionte Thompson, Juan Thornhill, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

I see them picking up a OL in the 4th/5th rounds like Dru Samia as I think they make one splash signing on the OL in FA (Daryl Williams) and roll with Halapio and Brown at C and RG.

I odn't think it's easy to envision.

There Giants had every opportunity to reach for a QB last year and did not. There is nothing in DG's statements or history to suggest that he would reach, and especially to a low tier prospect, this year. Your cynicism has you turning your fantasy into (what should be a qualified) prediction.

QBs tend to shoot up boards as drafts approach. And if we don't go QB, then who? Are there 3-4 edge rushers that make sense high in this draft?

Based on the rankings so far and the mock drafts...yes.
i'm on board with Murray

You are saying that the Giants will pick QB no matter what under your scenario. After Gettleman said last year that you can never force a QB pick. I don’t think they’ll settle into a QB at 6, but Jones could shoot up the board like you outlined.

We've seen reports that they want Eli to mentor the next QB. If this is Eli's last season, and they don't believe in Lauletta, it probably increases the likelihood of a QB being taken. Maybe that means a QB in the second round (my preferred route if a QB has to be taken in this draft), but QBs always move up as the draft approaches.
Most mock drafts predict
kdog77 : 2/14/2019 2:57 pm : link
that the top Edge and DL prospects will be gone in first 5 picks. Do you really want the #6 defensive prospect or possibly the best QB?

My best guess is that Giants will take next highest value position and pick QB at #6. Both Haskins and Murray played well in big college programs, but Giants generally put more stock on combine and player interviews to determine who they like. My only hope is they avoid picking some brainiac like Dave Brown and go for someone more battle-tested like Eli. Getting a young core of talent on offense can sustain teams in long run, but only if the QB is at peak performance. I like Murray's athleticism but my thought is Giants will be conservative and take Haskins.
Oliver or Williams if one of them is there or
bc4life : 2/14/2019 4:03 pm : link
Ferrell or Polite.
I'll remain consistent and guess that at #6
Diver_Down : 2/14/2019 4:25 pm : link
DG will pick Williams - Quinnen, Greedy, or Jonah.
Don't think they'll take Greedy
bc4life : 2/14/2019 4:46 pm : link
Lot of draftniks don't think he's worh the # 6 pick. And Giants don't have a need to reach their CB stable is not the worst - Jenkins, Webb, Haley, Beal, Lippett and Co.

They need a pass rush.

I like Allen and Ferrell. But I gotta say, when you watch Polite he looks like a freak with his quick first step and rip move. I don't think he is worth the 6th pick.

The draft is for the future. Jenkins won't be here forever. Take him out of the mix and our CB stable is trash. Beal is an unknown. Do we settle for the 4th best Edge rusher or the best CB? Same question can apply to OL. It needs to be fixed. Take a flyer on Daryl Williams who spent last year on IR with a busted knee? Rely on a reputation of DG finding late round gems and consequently relying on the Giants developing that gem when we haven't been able to develop any lineman in the past decade? Or do you continue to build the OL with young, healthy, fundamentally sound technician that is rated as the best? Or should we still settle for the 4th rated highest Edge?
I’ll go out on a limb, slightly
djm : 2/14/2019 5:28 pm : link
And say they draft bpa at six, be it the OT or defensive player, I’ll say defensive player— likely a pass rusher.

And then they trade up from round 2 and draft Daniel jones mid to late round 1.
Haskins if available is truly a no brainer.

of top spot - if Giants don't want Haskins, some team will and they will trade to cut in front of us.

That gives us shot at one of top 5 players, not a QB. Pretty confident Williams & Evans will be gone, Maybe Oliver. Think Ferrell will be gone too - somebody grabbin him as 4-3 DE.
Thinking Metcalf could also go

Edge because some guys can play both 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB.

Khalil Mack comes to mind as having played both.

It being either Haskins or Lock. My dark horse pick is Devin White out of LSU. He has literally no weaknesses to his game, can fit in any scheme. He’s Luke kuechly 2.0 and I’m almost sure it was DG who drafted kuechly if I’m not mistaken

I thought Kuechly was drafted the year before DG took over as the Panthers GM. I'm pretty sure you are mistaken.

Yes I like White at #6. With Tomlinson and B.J. Hill having good years in 2018 the LB'ing core needs to be upgraded. If Josh Allen is sitting there then I'd pick him otherwise White's a great pick.

Haskins reminds me of Cardale Jones. I'm not taking a QB that played only 1 year at #6. Murray, Jones, Lock all have 2+ years of experience. Murray is a shorter version of Baker Mayfield but only more dangerous in the run game. Murray brings more to the table then Haskins.
Jones is probably the favorite because he was coach by Cuttlif who coached both Mannings in College. That's a big plus.

I'm warming up to Haskins

I didn't warm up to any of the QBs last year -- but Haskins has a bunch of things going for him that the big three last year didn't

He's strong -- I mean really strong. He has a great physical, mental, and mature presence. He shows up big in big time games. He stands tall in the pocket and makes strikes when he's got someone coming at him. He has terrific will power that shows in some plays like the play Eli made in getting out of the grasp and getting the ball to Tyree in Super Bowl 42. He also gets the ball out fast, decisively and accurately. He spreads the ball around. He's got both power and can make a screen pass work. I like him.

If the Giants really like Haskins then they have to move up this year to get him - imo
I'll go with Josh Allen
Anakim : 2/19/2019 8:42 am : link
If he drops to 6, he would be the BPA. He's the third best player in the Draft, IMO, but with guys like Murray, Haskins and Gary potentially rising, it's not out of the realm of possibility.
It's still too early

I have a feeling we take Devin White
90.Cal : 2/19/2019 9:20 am : link
If he is as good as they say, DG might be inclined to take the QB of our defense for the next 10 years.

I'm hoping for one of Bosa, Quinnen, Kyler or Haskins.
Very few if any 3-4 ILBs

I've warmed up to Haskins too. But only to the extent that if he gets picked at #6, I won't retch. I still prefer to go for elite talent, which will only be DL at that spot. It's not only a need but also a strategy to build a team by getting the best players with the idea that next year, even with an uncomfortable package in trade, we can get a better QB that can slip right in because the supporting cast will be in place.
I see them saying this is the year
Pan-handler : 2/19/2019 10:42 am : link
to go QB and taking a similar approach as they did with the Manning year i.e being aggressive in FA in filling holes and be even willing to move up to secure their top guy whether it be Haskins ,Lock or even a trade for Rosen (should Cards want Murray).

The reports last year from almost all the 'plugged-in' reporters all kept pointing away from QB. And many pointed toward Barkley. They were right. This team generally doesn't go heavy playing the misdirection game. This year we are hearing quite a few reports from the plugged in guys saying they WILL go after a Qb and likely via the draft.

If Foles goes to the Jags (they probably want a vet because they think their team is close to a legit contender) then the legit competition for a Qb dies down even more. And then add in the Broncos at 10 trading for Flacco. Though this isnt last years draft we are in pretty good shape at 6 to get one of these guys. Now of course with the premium on the position we could see a team willing to sell the farm to move into the top 5 but the Giants at #6 could also be willing to offer their better pick to move up to make sure they get their QB.

Great year for DE in FA. I see us going after a vet guy or two for Bettcher. We infused some young talent last year with Hill and Carter now bring in some vets. This is not to say we won't go DL in the draft but I do think it's QB as Plan A in round 1.
I want Kyler Murray, but doubt that’s who DG takes...
Leg of Theismann : 2/19/2019 2:11 pm : link
All signs point to a pass rusher, or I think best DL available. All 4 super bowl winning Giants teams had one thing in common: they could rush the passer. That was a key to victory for all 4 super bowl winning teams and is a key to victory for pretty much any team in today’s NFL. And the 2019 class is deep with edge rushers and DL. Not to mention we all know DG is intent to build in the trenches. Oh and another thing: DG did not pay Vernon. I’m sure nothing irks DG more than seeing OV’s massive cap number knowing he didn’t even sign him and the guy can’t even make it through a full season. I think one of the “Edge” guys falls to us and that allows DG to move on from Vernon in 2020. If he can land a QB he likes in 2020 draft he can also move on from Eli and by 2021 the team will be fully DG’s with plenty of cap room to shape the team however he wants and compete for a titile.
Signs point more toward QB than pass rusher
Pan-handler : 2/19/2019 6:06 pm : link
That'll probably come either in FA or top 4 rounds of the draft
