Everyone in my mentions settle down. I don't think the Giants should trade Odell and I don't think they will. But it's at least an interesting *bold* prediction from one of the most connected national reporters

Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton)
2/13/19, 1:48 PM
Could Giants trade OBJ? Of course. Will they? I’d lean towards saying they won’t and it’d be dumb, but if a team comes with the right offer, I believe Gettleman could change his tune re: what he said in post-season presser.
Glazer made a bold prediction. It’s not breaking news

Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton)
2/13/19, 1:40 PM
He literally said he wasn’t reporting it, and that it was a bold prediction. You’ve seen the bold predictions made on Sunday pregame shows, right?
This is the confusion that arises when reporters who break news (Schefter, Glazer, Rapsheet) make bold predictions. It’s not news

Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton)
2/13/19, 1:43 PM
We spend far too much time turning opinions and bold predictions into breaking news. That’s the difference between Jay Glazer making a bold prediction that OBJ would be traded this offseason and Michael Irvin predicting Zeke would rush for 250 yards and 4 TD on a given Sunday

Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton)
2/13/19, 1:59 PM
I’ll make a bold prediction: Antonio Brown being on the trade market at a discount for obvious reasons crushes any value the Giants could get back for Odell Beckham Jr. worth dealing him this offseason.
Do they want to give OBJ away at a discount?
NYG must be smarter than that

There's an interesting push-pull going on in NFL strategy because:
a) Shotgun is generally more efficient than under center.
b) Play action is much more efficient than not play action.
c) Play action seems to work better if the QB is under center. (1/2)
Aaron Schatz@FO_ASchatz)
2/13/19, 6:19 PM
As a result, many of the top offenses (by DVOA) in 2018 were teams that used shotgun the *least*. But the best offense in the league was the team that used shotgun the *most*. (This is further complicated by the fact that Pistol is marked as Shotgun in the PBP logs.) (2/2)

Broncos did kick tires on Foles, but Flacco was deemed better fit. Why? One, Flacco has played considerably under center. Scanagrello offense will have QB under center plenty. Foles more shotgun-spread QB in Philly. And if Foles gets $25M+, Flacco better value at $18.5M

Callahan Mass Live: What the Patriots want in Tom Brady’s successor and how they’ll start to find him
A former Patriots assistant took me through the Pats' QB evaluation process, what they'll want in Tom Brady's successor and how they'll scout him

““Outside of the physical fundamentals of the game, it’s the intelligence factor and the commitment factor it takes to be successful,” Schuplinski said. “It’s not just about knowing our offense and knowing our playbook. It’s more so knowing the defense; what they’re doing, how are they aligning, what kind of information we can gather from the defense — coverage indicators and things of that nature — and how we can use that information and use their strengths and weaknesses to execute better.”
In order to determine whether a prospect possesses the necessary makeup, New England first identifies the incoming rookies who meet their baseline physical criteria and meets with them individually. Coaches and/or scouts run them through a rigorous test on the whiteboard covering the big picture and minutia of offensive and defensive concepts. Questions are fired rapidly to create a pressure.

“What’s important to us is we need to put them through a pretty decent grind when we meet with them. We need to put them through some stuff — it doesn’t necessarily have to be their (plays) per se — but we want to teach them something and see how they learn it," Schuplinski said. "Teach them something, then test them on it and see how their retention is. And that’s usually a relatively good indicator.
"It’s doesn’t tell us automatically whether this guy’s got it, but we’ll know if he doesn’t have it. And if he does, we’ll know he has a chance.”

QB
Klaasen Football Outsiders: Futures: Dwayne Haskins

“Given his phenomenal processing for his age, as well as how much Ryan Day and Urban Meyer seemed to trust him, there is a world where Haskins irons out his poor pocket presence and internal clock. Quarterbacks that smart, that early are a tough find, and it would be shocking to see Haskins completely bottom out of the league while already ahead of the mental curve.
Shades of Alex Smith, Derek Carr, or a less mobile Marcus Mariota creep into the mind when sorting out Haskins' place in the league. All of those passers want to play the quick game and are reliable in their pre-snap process, but fail to create under pressure or manage a pocket well. That kind of quarterback can be highly productive in the right environment, as Smith and Carr have shown to different degrees, but they leave the observer wanting something more.
In this quarterback class, though, finding that "something more" will be a fool's errand. Taking Haskins for what he is -- a brilliant, yet flawed and incomplete young passer -- and hoping to develop him into a more creative, poised player is a team's best chance at getting an above-average quarterback in this draft.”
