Odd timing right on the heels of the revelation that he turned down the AAF - which would have been GREAT evidence for the NFL in any trial (tended to show this guy wasn't so serious about football after all).
You do realize the AAF offer was 75k a yr .... If so you are really reaching ... SMH
Doesn't matter how much it was for - it was an opportunity for him to showcase his talents in the closest league to the NFL. If he crushed it in the AAF, it would strengthen his claim that he's a viable QB. That he turned it down is still very telling as to his confidence in his own abilities. It's absolutely relevant.

Only he knows, but I think it's silly to think the reason he turned it down was concern that his performance would make him look like he's lost his abilities.
My guess is they probably found some texts or emails Â
during the investigation that may not have been collusion, but something more damning to the image of the owners. By adding an ND clause they save some of the owners the damaged images they may have suffered. As well as possibly being forced to sell their teams.
Just a guess. Although if Kap was really down for his cause he would have turned down the money and blown the lid off the NFL. I guess we will never know.
I think the gag is about the terms of the agreement. I can't believe it would gag him from speaking his mind about vulnerabilities of young black men etc.
That this was just a no-win situation for the owners and they paid to have it go away?
Not saying there wasn't collusion but the NFL might have felt that letting this drag on would, in the long run, cost them a lot more than 60M-80M from the bad PR, even if they "won".
Probably. I'm sure the NFL did a cost-benefit analysis of multiple outcomes and decided this was the best way to bring this to an end, and try to keep it confidential. Take the one-time hit and hope Kaepernick fades away.
Only a matter of time before the details get leaked.
So what will happen if another player starts the whole Â
Next time, just commit a violent crime, Colin - you’ll get plenty of chances.
Or if he somehow becomes a good QB he will get a chance. Does anyone honestly believe that if Kaepernick was a franchise or even above average quarterback he wouldn't have gotten any offers? Teams wouldn't have hesitated to give him a big contract if he was in fact good.
You do realize that this man took a team to the Super Bowl and couldn't get a shake after the kneeling, yet Nate "freaking" Pederman threw 4 or 5 picks in his first game and got no better from there. Yet he still can get a backup gig. I didn't think he was a top tier QB, but he's much better than many that are holding clipboards and some that are starters.
I know many are fatigued by the racial issue, but imagine being on the other end of the spectrum where you are on the receiving end of racism. They get tired of it too!

CK didn't want a back up job. At least not for back up money. That's a problem when he won't sign for Pederman money.

Ah yes he is clearly a victim. A victim who received millions more from Nike than he would have received as a journeyman backup. Alex Smith nearly took the 49ers to the SB the year before and had much better numbers in Harbaugh's scheme.
for the NFL. This doesn't mean anything in terms of admission of guilt. The NFL is a billion dollar business. 60-80 million dollars is nothing to get this guy to go away.
There was probably no collusion going on. These are billion dollar business men. They didn't get to where they are by making careless decisions. signing Kaepernick to be a backup makes no sense for their business. Very little reward for the risk

I don't think it's relevant. Kaepernick has been gone from the game long enough to where skill erosion is a definite possibility and legitimate reason not to sign him. Has no bearing on when he was blackballed.
Question but why couldn’t Tebow sue the nfl? It was made clear Tebow wasn’t worth the circus media that he brings. I would argue Tebow at his time was worth a top 64 qb slot. I think both kapernick and Tebow both suck by the way.

When you look at the motley crew of absolutely assholes who own NFL teams, and the closed loop culture that allowed someone to literally record and release their closed door sessions, good chance someone said something abhorrent on record and the NFL didn't want this released.
Personally I don't like either side very much... Â
The NFL owners are idiots for not being appropriately sensitive to the situation and letting it get out of control.
My opinion of Kaep is that he is not a starting quality QB, and he knows it. He started the kneel down thing because it was something he believed in and it is a valid concern for society. But, I also believe that he sensed that it had morphed into something else, and he moved to take advantage of it. He has now gotten a payday beyond anything he could have expected playing in the NFL, and he hasn't had to sacrifice his body. He can now sit back and live a life of luxury that he didn't really earn. Gotta give him credit for a smart move. I doubt that ever even attempts to play another down of professional football.

To your last point, I wouldn't be surprised if part of the condition of the settlement is that CK does not pursue employment with an NFL team. He could very well attempt to catch on with the CFL or the XFL, but he'll never be paid what he thinks he is worth.

You may be right about the NFL stipulation... But then playing in any other league is a huge risk to his brand if it turns out he sucks. Not worth it. Better to take the advertising contracts, and play the SJW... More $$$ in that.
Opted out of 9ers contract looking for a big pay day before he kneeled.
Yea NFL payed him off$$$$ big time if he was truly a man of the people would donate all his money to socialist agendas

that’s right! unless he donates all of the money to which he is entitled (and much of which he may have earned outright if he received a contract on merit) he’s a fraud and a hypocrite!
Google QB Rating during the last year Kapernick was QB. Solidly middle of the pack of NFL Starters. He’s a Starting NFL QB.
Is Jason Campbell a starting NFL QB? Their QB ratings are very similar which is proof that QB rating isn't a great barometer in evaluating QB's.
"No. No. I use many stats. Let me tell you...You have stats that are far worse than the ones that I use, but I use many stats."
A simple google search shows (via Pro Football Reference) Campbell with a career rating of 81.7 and Kaepernick with 88.9. Not sure how that’s similar unless we’re going in 10-level increments. Then we can play all kinds of games with numbers! I can make claims too without backing them up.
Your name, btw Motley, checks out in line with your comment.
Despite the fact that the NFL paid out what was likely tens of millions of dollars to Kaep for this debacle, what this really proves is that there was no collusion or blackballing and it's really a big loss for Kaepernick.
As we all know, NFL owners are famously generous and are happy to hand out eight figure settlements for no reason at all.

Blake Bortles 2015 4428 yards 35 tds 18 int's
Any QB can look good for a small stretch when their team sucks and they are compiling stats in garbage time.

He led them to a Super Bowl. And don’t fool yourself. He did lead them. It wasn’t a case of Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer or old Peyton Manning. Kaep has belonged in the NFL. This isn’t cherry picking stats.
He doesn't need to play, I'm sure between this and the Nike deal, he'll have plenty of time to be a full blown "activist" now.
Lots of unclassy posts on BBI. This one is right up there.
Not everyone can be classy like Kaepernick. From wearing socks depicting the police as pigs during training camp or wearing a Fidel Castro shirt and praised him during an interview with Armando Salguero who grew up in Cuba under Castro's oppression.

Then it serves to dilute the message. It becomes fashion, not messaging on him supporting castro.
