I heard radio guys talking about the AAF offer and one point made was that it would only hurt Kaep to take it because if he played well people would discount it because it’s an inferior product. And, more importantly, if he played poorly it would say he sucks and that it was lack of talent which kept him off an nfl roster.
The settlement allows him to save face but also grab cash from Vince.
I just have a hard time believing a total collusion against Kaep Â
I just have a hard time believing a total collusion against Kaep
well . in the labor agreement with NFLPA there was extremely high level of proof against collusion so this proves the NFL owners certainly believe they colluded against Kaep or they would not have settled .
Odd timing right on the heels of the revelation that he turned down the AAF - which would have been GREAT evidence for the NFL in any trial (tended to show this guy wasn't so serious about football after all).

You do realize the AAF offer was 75k a yr .... If so you are really reaching ... SMH
Next time, just commit a violent crime, Colin - you’ll get plenty of chances.
Or if he somehow becomes a good QB he will get a chance. Does anyone honestly believe that if Kaepernick was a franchise or even above average quarterback he wouldn't have gotten any offers? Teams wouldn't have hesitated to give him a big contract if he was in fact good.
To me, he should have been playing in the NFL. However, I do understand that teams might not want the bad pub/backlash that comes with what he was doing.
At the same time, if the teams all got together and said stay away from this guy, that's collusion.
And a settlement and ND tells ya the owners were worried.............
It really isn't. 32 teams some with 2 owners in the case of the Giants. Each owner kick in $2M and you easily get the big number. $2M for owners such as Jerry Jones, Shad Khan, Kroenke etc. is nothing.
you settle even when you have a good case: it saves legal fees and keeps your fate in your hands no matter how small the chance.
The terms of the settlement are confidential so any speculation about amounts is just that, speculation. You can pretty much figure there is a statement of no admission of wrongdoing and non-disparagement on behalf of both parties because those are pretty standard clauses. The rest is all speculation.
He doesn't need to play, I'm sure between this and the Nike deal, he'll have plenty of time to be a full blown "activist" now.
Lots of unclassy posts on BBI. This one is right up there.
Not everyone can be classy like Kaepernick. From wearing socks depicting the police as pigs during training camp or wearing a Fidel Castro shirt and praised him during an interview with Armando Salguero who grew up in Cuba under Castro's oppression.
That this was just a no-win situation for the owners and they paid to have it go away?
Not saying there wasn't collusion but the NFL might have felt that letting this drag on would, in the long run, cost them a lot more than 60M-80M from the bad PR, even if they "won".

This is very possible but it's easier for some to claim the NFL lost big time because someone speculated about the 60-80 million which we obviously don't know is true because of the disclosure agreement.
we can all speculate on what actually happened, but this is probably the best for all parties:
1. For the NFL, this finally goes away and Kaep will have to drop making this an issue.
2. For Kaep, he gets paid, and can still be an activist. His brand will stay high
Depending where you sit on your impression of Kaep, systemic racism, the NFL, all parties can maintain their original opinions of what actually happened.

This along with what Homer mentioned above. A settlement doesn't mean CK's team had any evidence. Just a matter that the cost to settle is less than cost to go to trial. With the NFL worth billions, all it would take is for a judgement to be handed down that is punitive that would eclipse whatever they settled for. With a settlement, they can keep everything private. It goes to trial and it is public record.

Doesn't matter how much it was for - it was an opportunity for him to showcase his talents in the closest league to the NFL. If he crushed it in the AAF, it would strengthen his claim that he's a viable QB. That he turned it down is still very telling as to his confidence in his own abilities. It's absolutely relevant.

Only he knows, but I think it's silly to think the reason he turned it down was concern that his performance would make him look like he's lost his abilities.
My guess is they probably found some texts or emails Â
during the investigation that may not have been collusion, but something more damning to the image of the owners. By adding an ND clause they save some of the owners the damaged images they may have suffered. As well as possibly being forced to sell their teams.
Just a guess. Although if Kap was really down for his cause he would have turned down the money and blown the lid off the NFL. I guess we will never know.
I think the gag is about the terms of the agreement. I can't believe it would gag him from speaking his mind about vulnerabilities of young black men etc.

Probably. I'm sure the NFL did a cost-benefit analysis of multiple outcomes and decided this was the best way to bring this to an end, and try to keep it confidential. Take the one-time hit and hope Kaepernick fades away.
Only a matter of time before the details get leaked.
So what will happen if another player starts the whole Â

You do realize that this man took a team to the Super Bowl and couldn't get a shake after the kneeling, yet Nate "freaking" Pederman threw 4 or 5 picks in his first game and got no better from there. Yet he still can get a backup gig. I didn't think he was a top tier QB, but he's much better than many that are holding clipboards and some that are starters.
I know many are fatigued by the racial issue, but imagine being on the other end of the spectrum where you are on the receiving end of racism. They get tired of it too!

CK didn't want a back up job. At least not for back up money. That's a problem when he won't sign for Pederman money.

race agitation is big business. There's another fake news/hoax breaking today.

Ah yes he is clearly a victim. A victim who received millions more from Nike than he would have received as a journeyman backup. Alex Smith nearly took the 49ers to the SB the year before and had much better numbers in Harbaugh's scheme.
for the NFL. This doesn't mean anything in terms of admission of guilt. The NFL is a billion dollar business. 60-80 million dollars is nothing to get this guy to go away.
There was probably no collusion going on. These are billion dollar business men. They didn't get to where they are by making careless decisions. signing Kaepernick to be a backup makes no sense for their business. Very little reward for the risk
The settlement allows him to save face but also grab cash from Vince.
Kaepernick is just as responsible for not having a job in the NFL as the owners & NFL are.
really? Damn...
I wonder how much was at risk if it went to trial?
well . in the labor agreement with NFLPA there was extremely high level of proof against collusion so this proves the NFL owners certainly believe they colluded against Kaep or they would not have settled .
thats probably what they are really paying for, and to keep the details exposed in the trial out of the public eye.
LOL....exactly.

Nostrovia for the veiled comment... I would not surprise me if all the owners did blackball Kap..

I would think Kaep's lawyers must have some solid collusion evidence if he got this windfall.

Is Jason Campbell a starting NFL QB? Their QB ratings are very similar which is proof that QB rating isn't a great barometer in evaluating QB's.
