Bucks and Clippers as well. Straight from AD himself.

It depends on what Boston is really willing to give up.
I hope the Knicks get him

Im not a NYK fan but I hate Boston...Knicks need a face of the franchise.
Whether or not Boston is willing to give up Tatum will have a lot to
Strahan91 : 2/16/2019 12:23 pm : link
do with Kyrie imo. If Kyrie is going to walk and AD isn't willing to sign an extension (its previously been reported that he won't with anyone) then they're unlikely to offer up Tatum imo. Ainge is very patient, he's not going to put all his chips on the table now to have AD and what's left of the roster and risk AD walking after a year.

Without Tatum, I don't think they have enough to get a deal done. The Clippers likely will fall out of the 8th seed and wind up in the lottery so the pick wouldn't convey until next year (when it's also lottery protected and becomes a 2nd rounder if they fall in the lottery). Memphis pick is 1-8 protected this year (currently 6th in the lottery) and 1-6 next year (very possible they wind up there) and wouldn't become unprotected until 2021. The Kings are better than we thought so while a likely lottery pick it's probably late lottery.
Knicks hoping for a star to come..

What else is new. DMM - I remember you posting back in June of 2010 that you would find it hard to continue to follow the Knicks if they struck out in FA, yet here we are almost a decade later in the same boat.

Crossing our fingers for Durant/AD.

I used to watch roughly 75 games end to end. I no longer do that. I just can't invest the time nor do I have the interest. In fairness I watch less random NBA games than I used to.

Just taking a step back and looking at it from an objective eye, I think it’s pathetic the Knicks are just essentially hoping one of the star FA’s come. What if they don’t?

People love railing on the Mets, but I’d argue they are far better run than the Knicks are.

This isn't like 2010. In 2010 they had gutted all of their assets including first round picks to move heaven and earth to clear cap space. They have all their first rounders moving forward (and 2 of Dallas'). That's very different than the Knicks of old. If they strike out this time, so be it. You keep your cap space, maybe use it to take on assets for other team's contracts, use your picks and keep going. In 2010 they had no choice but to spend that cap space somewhere somehow.
Celtics not giving up Tatum....

now turnover Brown, a couple of bench players and a few draft picks looks more like Danny's thinking.....ps please get rid of Brown he's terrible on D and looks to pad his stats when the ball is in his hands only to turn it over time and time again!!!!!! he drives me nuts!!!!!

It's going to take Tatum - and frankly it should - AD is an MVP caliber player.

Tatum, Smart, Baynes, and 2 no. 1s (King and their own), is a very fair offer.
If NO trades without Tatum

Yep, and I take this as a sign Kyrie is leaning toward staying in Boston. Lakers, Bucks and Celtics all have stars in place, and the Clippers and Knicks have been linked to Kawhi and KD, respectively. Davis can team with any of those five guys and be an instant contender.
Well that settles it

Does Kyrie sign a max extension when AD can walk in a year? Maybe he signs a Durant or Lebron 1 and 1 type deal just in case. I also won't be convinced of Kyrie doing anything until he signs on the dotted line. He's unpredictable to say the least.

Kyrie might not sign with the Celtics unless Davis is traded there.

The real wildcard is if the Knicks get the #1 pick. Then they can and will trade that for Davis and get Kyrie or Durant to pair with him. I have to imagine the Pelicans would rather have Zion over any other offer. Unless Boston goes crazy and includes Tatum, Brown, other players and every pick you can think of just for one guaranteed year of Davis.

Well i don’t think Kyrie signs without someone form of guarantee in mind he stays, unless it’s like the contract you mentioned.

I still don’t doubt the Knicks end up with KD and/or or someone else. Just doesn’t help that the same offseason they are primed to make moves their biggest competition is LeBron and Boston.
I am happy for Boston fans

But New Orleans obviously wants to maximize leverage. They could have told AD if you dont put Bos on your list we will not trade you to a preferential destination (or trade you at all). Bos offer based on all indications will force other teams to really up the ante.

Knicks are still in this especially with all the picks they have. Knicks also have a top 5 this year , and Dallas picks. Bos will likely have all lower picks especially if they land AD from next year on. Does Tatum make up the gap for the higher picks the Knicks would give them starting with a top 5 or better this year?

All interesting scenarios to ponder.

Something like Mitch, DSJ, Knox, Frank and this years top 5 or better pick, another pick and one of Dallas picks. Could Bos top that? Depends on if they want the instant best player vs. some good players, a high upside guy in Mitch and the better package of picks starting with a top 5 or better this year. Rumor is they are really high on the top 2 guys in this years draft one is obviously Zion, the otheris probably Morant. So if we finish top 2 we will have a very, very strong package to offer them

Shams just said on NBA TV that there's still only 4 teams( Bucks,Lakers, Knicks, Clippers) Anthony Davis would consider signing a long term deal with and that the Celtics are NOT one of them.

I personally think he doesnt want Bos but will allow NO to maximize leverage to get traded to one of his preferred destinations

Yes I would avoid trading every asset we have for a player who is always injured. We have a top 5 pick this year at worst and 2 max free agent slots. Why would you trade all that? Let them build a team the right way

Davis takes up two max slots? He's a top 5-7 player in the league. If it makes Durant coming a certainty you pull the trigger and don't think twice imo. Otherwise your two max slots may leave you with nada or worse, Kemba Walker and Demarcus Cousins.

Ok, then you have 2 max guys and garbage around them. And you know AD is not lasting a full season. So you want KD with garbage players? Just sign KD and Kyrie and draft Zion or whoever falls our way. Why give up assets

You can go over the cap to sign vet min players. You also get the MLE (possibly Deandre) . Quality role players will come if we sign a big 3 ala just like Miami.

or I can keep my high draft pick who will need to be traded to get Davis.. as well as Knox, Smith, Robinson and others to make the salaries work.

Id rather have a team of

Durant, Kyrie and have Knox, Robinson, DSJ, Frank, Trier, as well as my top draft pick especially if its Zion, or Barrett.. AND have all my draft picks going forward. AND I can still resign Deandre Jordan to a MLE..

The Knicks dont need to trade away young players AND draft picks.. Depth, youth and energy will serve them just as well along with two max players

The Warriors are favored to three-peat this season and feel their team, buoyed by the addition of Boogie Cousins, is in a good place as they enter the final seven weeks of the regular season. Durant’s future, they claim, is not a dark cloud hanging over their season. “We have no idea what he’s going to do,” said one team source. “Everyone wants him to stay. There’s not much more we can sell him on. If he leaves, we’ll think of it as being lucky to have him for three great years.” –

Kevin Durant dominated Sunday’s All-Star Game while the buzz about his pending free agency simply dominated All-Star Weekend in Charlotte. The general consensus among NBA executives, coaches and players is that if Durant were to leave the Golden State Warriors as a free agent in July, his most likely destination would be — wait for it — the New York Knicks. It gets better for fans of the team that plays at Madison Square Garden. The other big story coming out of Charlotte is that Knicks owner James Dolan, according to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, is “courting offers” to sell the club.

AD is an interestng wild-card in this equation but if KD comes, Kyrie likely follows (IMO) and then AD could tell NO behind the scenes work something out with NYK w/o killing their leverage publicly.

AD's dislike for Bos is apparently legit.
