I've got a little different take on this...
BamaBlue : 2/21/2019 11:23 am : link
Smollett is (obviously) a guy who goes to absurd extremes to get attention, but he used a strawman that was not of his making.

Smollett is not alone in knowing that the media has a narrative for 2019 America. He played right into their hands and they ran with it without hesitation. Identity politics is the charter and trade of mainstream media and they took this absurd narrative hook, line and sinker until it became impossible to defend. Now, the same mouthpieces are pretending to 'search for answers' while scattering like roaches.

The lesson from all of this is that America in 2019 is not perfect, but certainly isn't being reported accurately. There's a template the media uses enemies and there need to be enemies (real or imagined). The identity politics template uses terms like; 'racist', 'homophobe', 'misogynist' etc. When you throw these labels on someone, you don't need to have a dialog or a conversation with them. It's a license to spit vitriol and make absurd unfounded assertions. This used to be the stuff or opinion journalism, now it's foisted as 'real' news. Journalists are building an insulated brick wall that's playing to ignorance and hate; it plays out every day in what used to be know as news and is eroding the last shreds of civility.

IMHO, Smollett played his identity politics card and is a victim of his ignorance and an agenda-driven media.

not sure what you mean, "not a tweet to be seen" unless you only follow movie stars and athletes on twitter.

Why would there be any tweets/comments supporting the white nationalist?

I fully expect to see tweets from most candidates condoning his intended actions though.

Here is where confirmation bias and identity politics play a huge part in the division of this country.

Why can't both be wrong? This is not a binary choice where you can only pick one.

How about the fact MOST of the country supports neither of these two assholes and feels both should be beholden to what our legal system dictates for their transgressions. These two shouldn't have a "side".

One of them obviously could have been far more wrong and grievously so, but fortunately didn't carry out plans he fantasized about.

The other preyed on the emotions of the whole country and arguably did more tangible damage than the other.

If you're looking for politicians to tweet for your validation you are misguided.

think for yourself.

I am not going to get in a position where I need to defend the President, but he probably tweeted condemning Smollett because like many others he previously commented on how terrible the "attack" was on Smollett.

From politico:

Quote:
President Donald Trump on Thursday called the attack on “Empire” star Jussie Smollett “horrible,” condemning the assault by individuals who the actor alleged referenced the president’s campaign slogan as they attacked him.....

“It doesn’t get worse, as far as I’m concerned,” Trump said of the attack during an Oval Office exchange with the White House press pool on Thursday."...

So whether he comments on Hasson or not is irrelevant to Smollett. There are a lot of horrible acts committed or planned to be committed by horrible people I don't need commentary on them all.

Oh, and btw, from USA Today:

After two days of public pressure to renounce white supremacists at the root of street violence in Charlottesville, Va., President Trump declared Monday that "racism is evil" and announced that the Justice Department will open a civil rights investigation into the deadly car attack that left one woman dead.

"To anyone who acted criminally in this weekend's racist violence: You will be held fully accountable. Justice will be delivered," Trump said after returning to the White House to meet with top federal law enforcement officials.

Denouncing racism, Trump said in a prepared speech that "those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans."

Again, you seem to be looking for the President to comment on something for your own validation.

why?

he should not be your moral compass, I don't care who the president is.

and you should not need any validation or expectation from him to comment to make you feel like things are "even".

His first comment on Smollett was one of condemnation.

which is probably why he felt compelled to comment on the hoax, but who knows (or cares).

There are certain atrocities that are horrific enough (like Hasson) that reasonable people don't need anyone to comment.

The Charlottesville crowds on both sides

were large and diverse. The left had scumbags like Antifa plus a lot of decent people, the right had scumbags like the White Supremacists plus a lot of decent people. What Trump said wasn't wrong, it was just insensitive and dumb, because he should know that when he says anything it'll be taken out of context and spun. The man is a victim of many self-inflicted wounds. As to the big picture, people in general need to keeps their mouths shut until the facts come out on any story. Obama was often just as bad as
Trump as far as publicly rushing to judgement.

I was speaking generally, not specifically, but mentioned Hasson to show why the hit list put together by Hasson needs no commentary.

The fake bombs sent to liberal media was met with strong condemnation (though perhaps not ironically, the media only focused on the "but..." after the condemnation).

it goes back to where I started on this thread, people need to stop getting their information from echo chambers.

Confirmation bias is real, and it's human nature, but it doesn't help heal division.

Some people don't want to heal division they want to seize on it and many people are useful idiots in that endeavor.

Maybe non-functioning would be a better term than fake

There are certain atrocities that are horrific enough (like Hasson) that reasonable people don't need anyone to comment.

Easy on the hyperbole, pj :) Atrocities are defined as acts, not thoughts. Collecting weapons is not an atrocity, using them certainly is.

Some people don't want to heal division they want to seize on it and many people are useful idiots in that endeavor.

amen

Yes, my apologies, the bombs were real explosive materials, but from what I read according to explosive experts, not capable of detonating because they were poorly made.

Feel the same about you.

(With as much or little reason to)
But at least we know that

LOL. You really think you know as much about me as you do

Trump? Whatever you think of me, and there's plenty of negatives to jump on so have fun, there's oodles of evidence that the President's guiding principle is "how does this help me or how can I twist it to my benefit?" Unlike most inhabitants of the office, it's pretty obvious he has no core beliefs at all. It's all kabuki theater for his own benefit.
I think Trump has been truer to his core beliefs

than anyone since Jimmy Carter. Everyone since Carter, including Reagan, were basically establishment politicians into expediency. If Obama was true, he would have stuck with the single payer healthcare he believed in. Instead he compromised with what he had the votes for. Really, what has Trump proposed that you think was meant to ingratiate himself to the majority of Americans? You can't say that he plays to his minority base and that at the same time he puts his finger to the wind and does what's better for him politically.
