“Big day” in the world of sports. For many. Not sure how many here in the ol’ BBI.
I’m looking in on the Daytona 500 and I don’t really follow the sports closely enough to understand what the stages are all about. But I’ve watched racing since I was a kid and it’s the first event of the new season so, I’m giving it a look. Hard to name a lot of these younger drivers when you don’t follow the sport very closely.
Obviously a big NBA fan, but the All-Star game has become more and more of a joke. I guess for some people it’s fun to watch guys run up and down like they’re playing at Rucker Park. Again, unless my wife find something she wants me to watch with her on Netflix, I’ll likely look in here and there. Just how high will the final score be?
Guessing a fair cross section of BBI is in the “don’t care/don’t care” camp.
Restrictor Plate Racing is just boring to me until the very end when they actually try. The NBA All Star Game is only good when it’s close at the end of the game so their egos force them to actually try.
Both events are 90% coasting and 10% real action.

As for NASCAR: RIP. 17 years ago this day was when my face moment as a fan
Ever since the stress of to “mainstream” it w tracks in more populated cities, and adding those road races it has died more every year.
Though lately been some more buzz.
Run safe and clean all day. Make a run at the end.
Run safe and clean all day. Make a run at the end.
Not a racing fan, and based on that, not sure why I would tune in other than for the last 15 minutes. Three hours is a long time to watch people drive in circles waiting for the actual race to start.
I haven't watched an NBA game start to finish in 10 years. I love college basketball, but the NBA game is just entirely uninteresting for me, even the last few minutes.
Thank God for hockey!
I used to cover some of the races writing for newspapers so I got into it for that time period. That was fun.
But even then, there were some serious personalities, and clashes. Maybe that added to it, too.
I tried watching more than usual yesterday because he’ll, it’s Daytona. But I don’t get the “stages” thing. Race a while. Take a break. Get some “points.” Then go to racin’ again. Huh?
All in all, restrictor plate racing is booooooring. Give me a road course, like Watkins Glen, and THAT’s some fun, imo. Maybe even a little short track, like, is it Tennessee? Speeds are lower but they’re trading paint all over the place. That can be entertaining.
The sport has passed me by. Or I’ve passed it. I know a quarter of the drivers. And it might have been nice to see Joe Gibbs win yesterday, but ... Redskins.
It’s early enough in the season that I’ll tune in for a few minutes at a time sometimes. That a ton of horsepower, and in small doses, it’s a good thing.
I just recently became a full fledged NASCAR fan this past season. Going to races live really got me hooked. Plus it gave me something to do on Sundays. With NFL only being 5 months long or so... Usually a big void for me. I only watch NBA and MLB during the big games and the tail end of the playoffs.
We just moved to Indianapolis so im going to get season tickets to their Soccer team here. Been needing a team to root for.
