Seems the Giants might be this year's Hard Knock's team.

Not a fan of the show, but the writer tends to think it will be the Giants this year.

Any thoughts?

Hard Knocks (not that I want to be). We fucking blow, we are in one of the biggest markets in the country, have a WR who the media outlets can't get enough of, have a GM who speaks his mind, a generational RB who does all the right things, an aging former Super Bowl MVP who MAY have a rookie biting at his heels, 11 or so draft picks that will make good stories (do they make it, do they get cut), a GM who likes to bring in a bunch of undrafted guys. It makes too much sense

Seriously. Hard Knocks is for crappy teams and organizations. Add in some compelling story lines and the New York market. Damn straight the Giants should be on Hard Knocks. This should come as a surprise to no one.

The Giants earned this. Would love for people to stop bitching about it. Actually, I want the Giants to be on Hard Knocks. I want the microscope on Mara's organization. You know who else wants it? Eric wants it. Can you imagine the traffic on BBI? TF.

I actually believe this rumor, but things change and I'm not sure it was written in stone. This would be the perfect year for us to do it. This is a team in transition with stars people want to see. Nobody wants Hard Knocks, but if the league decides this is the year than so be it. It's not like this team is making a Superbowl this year unless Barkley goes for 3000.

Honestly as a fan, at least it gives us more Giants football to give a shit about. It's not like the team has provided that past Halloween in recent memory.
They will have to be on it eventually
giantsFC : 2/17/2019 10:35 pm : link
Perfect time is now bc they suck.

Plus the show isn’t as negative as people tend to think. Sees to help find some hidden talent. And maybe will be fun to see Eli Manning candid. And help finish off weeding out the malcontents bc they love the spotlight.
I don't want to see that.
GiantSteps : 2/17/2019 10:42 pm : link
Really just because I don't want to see the narrative of Eli being on his way out being hammered into everyone's heads more than it already is. Not really healthy for the team (and especially the starting QB) to have to deal with that, and it already follows Eli around enough. Give the guy and the team a break.

I'd actually be much more interested in seeing it after that particular "storyline" becomes a non-factor. Let the Giants do Hard Knocks when whoever the next QB is in the starting position and Eli can watch it from home, sitting on his couch made of 100 dollar bills, and not having to deal with a bunch of cameras in his face reminding him that it's almost time to go. That ain't right, and as much as some people might enjoy seeing how that plays out behind the scenes, I don't want it.

All that said....if I'm being honest, I'd watch it if it they did it this year. I just hope they don't.

Technically he is correct. Modell, Cleveland, and the NFL all reached an agreement that led to it all remaining in Cleveland. The NFL would deactivate the Browns for three years (they promised the city another team by 1999) and Modell would relinquish the Browns name, colors, history, records, awards, and archives, which would all remain in Cleveland and remain with the new team that was to take over the NFL "Browns" franchise.

No, give me a look inside Jints Central. Let the cameras follow around Mara, Gettleman, Abrams, Chris Mara, and Tyseer Siam. And when Ernie gets called in, and he will, add him to the mix as well. This would be priceless...

for the season. I am sure Shurmur will be able to draw on his the vast pool of his past head coaching success to mitigate the distraction this would bring.

Sure, I would watch, it would be interesting. Distractions and circus like this though are for crap teams where winning and being able to consistently compete with the best is a distant or never existed memory. Another sign of the depths to which the franchise has sunk.

Hopefully Mara has some pull with the league and can avoid this. Although, maybe he wants it to entertain the fans since the football has not for so long.
People here take all of this shit way too seriously...

it is a fucking game that in reality means nothing. Who cares if the training camp is on TV? Why wouldn't people here want to see it after spending EVERY DAY on this website talking about it?

This team has a lot more to be concerned about than possible distractions from a few TV cameras.

Waiting for the thread on whether Barkley should be on the SI cover...

When people see how antiquated and stale the organization is, the media can put pressure on the Giants to change.

And yes, any actual malcontents will have pressure put on them by the media too.

This team is a couple of years from competing. Hard Knocks might make Shurmur's job harder, but Gettleman's job a lot easier.

Good football teams prepare in training camp to for the season where the goal is to bang with the best and compete for a playoff spot and a chance to win it all.

There may not be another team in the NFL more than the Giants who need to win that first game and start off win some W's in order to avoid, yet another, season that goes stright down the toliet bowl before Hallowwen again.

How would the circus that this show would bring to camp help this goal? Perhaps this could be mitigated if the coach and culture of the team was stronger with more success to fall back on. But, this is not true wit this group.

Winning teams with winning cultures focus on football and team building with minimal distraction. Distraction is destruction in football. Maybe I am a drama queen, but if you want the Giants to finally turn over and start winning again you should hope they pick another team.

To me it is a bad thing, but in this world where entertainment trumps winning and players are glorified for individual singular efforts even in losses and having never achieve nothing of note I am sure many disagree.

I did and yes he did. Giants are #1 in the article as to teams he thinks will be picked. And at the bottom when he claims it will be the 49ers he says they will be picked AFTER the Giants are considered followed by “total guesswork”.
When do they make the choice which team it will be?
Mike from Ohio : 2/18/2019 9:56 am : link
If it is after the draft, I could see them selecting the Giants if they spend their top pick on a QB because the Eli-rookie dynamic would be a draw. If they don't select a QB high, where is the compelling story line outside of OBJ? Eli giving bland comments about wanting to compete and win is going to be a snooze fest for a national audience.
.
arcarsenal : 2/18/2019 9:58 am : link
No, the Giants are the team he personally deems as the "best fit" - not the team he thinks is most likely to be picked.

His power rankings are his own preference based on who he thinks makes the most sense. Not the order of predicted likelihood.

The OP says the writer claims he thinks it will be the Giants - the writer clearly says he thinks it will be SF. All he says is he thinks the league will "kick the tires" on the both Giants AND Raiders.

He also made a joke about the Giants needing to be the choice if the NFL is seeking a Keeping Up with the Kardashians type of production.

There is nothing in this article that says the Giants are the most likely team. There's a difference between best fit and most likely.

I shouldn't need to explain that, but here I am!

I don't think "Gee, Saquon seems like a really mature dude!" is a compelling story line for a national audience. I could be wrong, but if I was picking the team I would want one with at least one very compelling story line. Transition from Eli to rookie would be that.

OBJ, assuming there is nothing other than the usual social media silliness, is sort of a second story line.

they have finished the season over .500 once the past 6 years, I'm pretty sure Hard Knocks isn't going to derail this juggernaut.
