They took the reality driven NWO faction angle and did it WWF style. Shawn Michaels was a tool. He was much better when he dropped the sophomore humor stuff after returning.
As the greatest wrestling collective ever. I hesitate to say tag team because like the Freebirds they would switch out from time to time.
The Freebirds did it in multiple promotions and over different generations. DX were very much a product of the late 90s and were basically a childish clone of the much more important and bigger NWO.
The 4 Horsemen were also the greatest wrestling collective ever.
A bunch of wrestlers in their mid to late 30s who were acting like teenagers who thought Limp Bizkit was cool. They could only work in the Attitude Era of the late 90s. They were very much a product of their time and a WWE response to the NWO. When Michaels and HHH brought it back at various times during the 00s it did not go over well. It was like watching your granddad trying to be hip and a rebellious teenager. The low point was the stuff with Hornswoggle.
Was helping to cultivate the "evil" Vince McMahon persona.
If I remember right dx, under hhh and Michaels, were originally heels causing chaos as McMahon tried to keep order. But as the crowds kept cheering for them Vince became the "bad boss" - a persona he carried over to his feud with Austin.

NWO was better than both AINEC
The NWO sucked. Bishoff ran that theme in to the ground. It was doomed once practically every big name in WCW was part of the NWO. How do you build a compelling feud under those circumstances? That’s why that angle died so quickly. It got dull and boring. DX had the Rock and the Nation and that feud was legendary.

I agree that it got watered down as time went on, but the original NWO with Hogan, Nash and Hall were legendary and I was also a big fan of the Black and White vs. Red and Black rivalry. WOLFPACK IN THE HOUSE.

Well Bischoff wanted to run a WCW and NWO brand one on Nitro the other on Thunder, so it makes sense that the NWO grew.
The big problem was that the head of the NWO didn’t allow anyone have the belt and they just beat the shit out of the rest of the company.
On top of that Bischoff killed the best home grown guy they had in Goldberg. They needed to create more home grown talent.

Goldberg couldn't "work" in the ring. If it wasn't a squash match he got exposed. His gimmick was he was undefeated. If he can't lose, then his character wasn't that strong to begin with.

His gimmick worked though, so who cares if he just squashed someone. They could have made another wrestler instead of cheapening the loss with the tazer gun.
They also could have made a ton of money if they had main evented the Hogan Goldberg match where Goldberg won the belt the first time.

It's amazing how much screen time they got over The Rock at that time.

The interesting thing is there was apparently so much bad blood between the Rock and Shawn Michaels that they never directly did a program together.
