Ok, I do not watch much college football so I do a lot of reading during draft time.
In reading up on Haskins and Murray, I keep hearing the biggest knock on Haskins is his lack of starter experience, but I do not hear the same about Kyler Murray.
I know Murray started a few games in 2015 before sitting out in 2016 due to transferring schools. He also and played a few wildcat snaps in 2017 before becoming a full time starter for the first time in 2018.
Are those few extra games/snaps between 2015 and 2017 really much of a difference between them?
Am I missing something?
But, when you have a running threat at QB, they can rely on their legs more while they figure things out at the next level. That also helps open up the passing as Ds are concerned about the running option.
Haskins has 2 knocks on him experience and dealing with pressure.
This time of year everyone spends their time rightfully so searching for weaknesses in prospects game.
But the size issue is so big know digs past that.
Murray has experience issue and type of offense he played in as detractors.
Great scouting report on Murray.
Are you suggesting Murray can’t process information and doesn’t have the requisite IQ for QBs?
From everything I've seen Murray has awesome processing power, goes through progressions like a pro, is a better natural passer than Haskins, has a stronger arm than Haskins, throws with nice touch when he needs to, throws guys open. And I have watched full games of Murray, not just highlight reels. The kid is more than just an athletic freak. He put up the same passing stats in 2018 as Baker Mayfield had in 2017, with 91% of his passes coming from inside the pocket, but as an added bonus he tacked on 1000 yards and 12 TDs rushing.
And nothing I just said is a knock on Haskins whatsoever, I like him as a prospect as well, but I feel Murray is special. There's a reason a guy who's 5'9" has made it this far as a QB. They usually don't even let the 5'9" kid play QB in high school, let alone at the University of Oklahoma. He's special. If he were 3 inches taller he'd be the consensus #1 overall pick. If he were 5 inches taller he would be considered the best QB prospect to come along in decades.
Again, not knocking Haskins, but prospects like Haskins come along every single year. A guy like Murray is rare, and people are letting the fact he's "small" make them believe he won't succeed in the NFL. People who know nothing about anything go as far as comparing him to RGIII who was an entirely different player with an entirely different skill set and style of play. People have been doubting Murray all his life and he's never failed to prove them wrong, so I don't see why so many people are still willing to die on the "he's too small" hill at this stage.
I have the same concerns about the amount of film on both...
I think that the concerns about Murray's size overwhelm the experience concerns by most out there.
mdc1: isn’t the truly mobile QB model also unsustainable? How many have lasted through their rookie contract?
Quote:
isnt the goal to protect the QB as we have been whining about now for years with Eli. With protection Murray with mobility will carve up defenses. The statue QB model is unsustainable moving forward. I think we have found that out with all these attempts at OL coordinators f'ing up their careers attempting to protect troglodyte footwork.

Not many. Randall Cunningham?
I think it's bit premature to say the Giants won't consider Murray.
