I'm told the Giants and S Landon Collins are not currently in active negotiations on a contract extension, per sources.
Collins, leads all DBs in tackles since entering the NFL in 2015 (428) and is 1 out of 4 safeties to make 3 Pro Bowls in the last 4 seasons
I’d rather pay him 11 mil for 1 season than be on the hook for 27 over 3 years if he is not the long term answer. Savings = 16 mil..
if he is the answer we will have more mo te next yea4 for a long term deal.
JMO.
Someone posted this the other day. When Riley and Collins were both on the field for us Collins was targeted more in the passing game. What does that say? And all this talk about moving him to LB doesn't make sense because he cannot cover TEs and RBs now. He'd probably have to put on weoght to be a LB making him slower. He is a guy that needs all the pieces around him to be in place for him to excel. We aren't that team. I wish him luck but I just don't see the fit here with us. He isn't elevating our defense. We need to put our resources into players/positions that do.
Would it be a shock if the Giants viewed LC as a loudmouth AHole who helps create the bad culture? Everyone from the previous regime seems to be actively getting axed. And then we know he was on the block last year at the deadline.
Just some musings......I admit, he may be seen as the perfect citizen & player but I can't help but wonder..
You should be able to win with big, bruising badass players like Landon Collins even if you don't love everything they say. Manage it, deal with it, win. He's a football player, there's no question about that.
That is not Landon Collins!
That is not Landon Collins!
I don't watch the rest of the league like I used to, who are the strong safeties in the league who excel in coverage?
Honest question..
That is not Landon Collins!
Look at the bright side - it'll give you more reason to indulge your hobby of worrying about the Giants' secondary!
Haley has demonstrated that he is a solid tackler and he has also demonstrated an ability to cover slot type receivers.
It should not be a real step up for Grant to make the move.
I would then look to draft at least one more corner in addition to Beal.
I would not be averse to signing a FA S to a reasonable deal. I am not familiar with what Safeties might be available at this time but almost anyone can cover better than LC

Moving Grant - undersized for corner but not for safety - Haley? That Grant Haley is going to be our SS now?
Haley can cover which is the first competency he needs and he tackles well.
He is smart and was a Captain at PSU and has leadership skills.
LC is too big and slow to pass cover as a safety and too small to be an effective lb.
So size is an issue but it is really more of an issue with LC.
Haley has proven he is an effective tackler. That is all that counts. That and the ability to pass cover.
Time to invest our scarce resources where they are most effective instead of wasting them on a Safety who can't cover.
