Manny is pretty disappointed with how this all played out. San Diego is on the verge of being pretty good, but that can't be where he pictured himself going when this all began
BREAKING: Manny Machado has agreed to terms on a deal with the Padres. According to a league source, its for 10 years and $300 million - the biggest free-agent contract in the history of American sports.

Until the Phillies lock up Harper in a few days (I guess).

So - the same contract that the Nationals offered Harper last year that he rejected?

For $300 million Im sure hell be ok
Obligatory response, I get it. But he was always going to get good money. San Diego is baseball siberia though. But if it was just about the money, then sure, he did well.

For him it was always about the money. Dude doesnt even hustle or play the game the right way. Hes trash. But he gets to go to a great city with a lot of money. Lucky man
The deal covers mostly prime years for Machado and they are loaded with prospects. They made a move to smarten up their front office with analytic gurus and that team is really on the up swing. Too bad they didn't listen to their analytic guys on the Hosmer deal though.
Safer sport, guaranteed contracts, his size isn't a factor in MLB.
That simply isnt true. Murray would have to be an above average MLB player and wait until hes a FA to make big money. Or get lucky and get good arbitration money.
If he goes #1 overall he will have close to $35m guaranteed (8x his MLB signing bonus). If he plays well and doesnt get hurt he will likely look for an extension year 4 for starter money. The money just isnt close in the short term and in the long term hed make a big contract sooner in the NFL.

Manny Machado's deal, as @Feinsand first reported, is for 10 years and $300 million with an opt-out after the fifth season.
A monumental deal -- the single biggest free agent contract in American sports history.
And now every eye in baseball turns to Bryce Harper. His move.
increasing there current payroll 32% ($94M to $123M) for one player is the answer for a small market team. A small market team currently loaded with great young talent everywhere.
Or I just forgot and didnt feel like dealing with everyone screaming SOURCE?!

If tis is what he got, what does Trout and Judge get?
He'll never get to sniff a Ring there

He'll never get to sniff a Ring there

If I had a nickle for everytime one of them mentioned how bad it was that Harper/Machado were unsigned in camp I'd be rich.
Not to worry, 2 years after we draft him, he will make that choice.
Last I checked 30>25.
Stanton wasn't a free agent.
Stanton wasn't a free agent so he doesn't make that list. Machado got the highest for a free agent.

Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler: We do not have a deal. We are continuing discussions.
And they signed Hosmer to a big contract last year. They do have a core of young players so maybe they are ready to go for it all.

Good luck Manny hitting in that ballpark!
