New York Giants Pre-Combine 7-Round Mock Draft

Outside of some VERY exciting offensive weapons, the New York Giants have holes all over the roster and it’s not getting fixed by one draft. So as you read through this, realize I did my best to focus on premium positions, but General Manager David Gettleman has his work cut out for him to get this roster corrected. Projected to have just under $30 million in salary cap space, I don’t expect the Giants to be overly active in free agency. With that said, making sure Landon Collins is secured for the long-term should be a top priority for the Giants’ brass.

Round 1, Pick No. 6: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

I know opinions on Haskins are all over the place but I believe the Giants have to take the chance on him.

Completing 70 percent of his passes for 4,831 yards with 50 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, Haskins had a historically great season for a Big Ten quarterback in 2018. His ability to slot throws from the pocket to the dynamic Ohio State offensive weapons can transition to the NFL where Odell Beckham, Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard and Saquon Barkley would immediately be at his disposal. The Giants make sense for Haskins and I think it would be his best chance to reach his ceiling.

Next 6 selections here - ( New Window )

the merits in drafting Haskins, this is absolutely not the reason to cite for doing so:

You don't take a chance on a player at #6.

As far as the rest of the draft, Cajuste and Hollins are fine, the rest not so much. We will also likely receive a fourth round compensatory pick.
That would be an excellent

when you draft a franchise QB, you are always "taking a chance"....that wording sounds bad in the context of selecting a QB, but that's always what it is, you take a chance on a guy if you have conviction he'll be a pro powl caliber QB.

The Giants need to
Gman11 : 2/20/2019 5:19 pm : link
work out Haskins with a defensive lineman in his face as soon as he receives the snap from center. It'll be just like what's been happening the last couple of years.
Haskins is the next BobIII and he sets the Giants back 5 years!

Haskins does not make the Giants a better team. Can he drive the team down for a TD when they are down by 4 in the 4th quarter? Do the Giants have a defense that is good enough to cover up his mistakes, like a fumble or INT? There is just so much more talent on defense and in the oline to pass up a player that came in and contribute immediately.

Agree here. Chance at a blue chip potential all pro at #6 is possible in this draft. Make it happen. ELI is going to be here next year and we do not need a wasted pick this low in the draft. We have to get an instant starter like last year. Not someone who will be holding a clip board for who knows how long. MO.
I’m not for drafting Haskins

And 100% in for drafting one of the Dline / edge guys
Like Yodney at 2. That’s about it with this mock

Just an aside. They should make Engram their big WR which will cause major matchup problems and go into FA and go after one of the top TEs who can also run block
Make this offense as explosive as possible
Draft as much defensive talent as possible and live with Eli another year or two
They need an

Edge rusher or OL first

I wonder how Engram would do lined up against CB’s and playing more outside the numbers?

If it something the Giantscactually do they should add another TE in the draft. Solid group
This years center class

is said to be the strongest in years. Regardless of what the Giants do in free agency I want to see them come away with a G/C with one of their 4th round picks plus a developmental OT in the 4th or 5th round as well since they are likely to have three 4th round and two or three 5th round picks. Hopefully the Giants will also add a NT with one of these picks as well. Nose tackles don't usually go early unless they display pass rush ability.
Like the first two picks
BillT : 2/20/2019 8:35 pm : link
But not enough OL picks on day three. Need at least two more OLs day three.
The Giants don't "have to take a chance"

A prescription for disaster.
#6 must be a stud regardless of position
SGMen : 2/20/2019 11:54 pm : link
The one thing we can't do is "miss" like we did with Erek Flowers at #10. The jury is still kind of out on TE Engram as to whether he is a worthy #1, but if he is moved or used more as a 2nd WR this year, a big body mis-match in the redzone perhaps, we may get lucky.

The Giants need to rush the QB better. We were pathetic and I think a solid edge rusher will be there at #6 as someone will trade up in round 1 to take Haskins and maybe even Murray.

I would not mind a slight trade down either should some team get ancy. We need bodies as we have a lot of holes.
I can't believe the obsession in this place with ignoring QB
Giants38 : 2/21/2019 12:29 am : link
PFF put out their QB rankings for the 2018 season. Eli ranked 5th - in the NFC East. It's absurd for the fans - and worse for the team - to keep ignoring this. People here think there is some perfect QB coming along. There isn't. Maybe Lawrence, but he is not draft eligible until 2021, and chances are we won't suck enough to get him anyway.

Next year, we'll run this back again. These QBs stink. Let's resign Eli, get one more season out of him, draft another player, and draft Lawrence in 2021. Then what?

They’re not even similar players. Any he hasnt been turnover prone. Your post makes no sense do some research.
Whoever the Giants draft at #6 they are "taking a chance on"
Mike from Ohio : 2/21/2019 9:12 am : link
Why do some fans still believe that drafting an edge rusher or an offensive lineman has no risk? Didn't we learn from Ereck Flowers that any position can bust and set your team back?

If you think Haskins won't be a good NFL QB, that's a valid reason for not wanting him. But if you want to wait for a sure-fire All Pro QB, accept that you may be waiting a long time, and you may need to give up multiple draft picks to get him. Oh yeah, and he still may bust...

He thinks like Steven A Smith ... black QB has to be a run 1st QB ....
if he's sitting there
Old Dirty : 2/21/2019 11:55 am : link
when the Giant's pick comes up at #6, I think he's a Giant. I don't believe the Giants will trade up for him. He's not a "generational talent" that Gettleman likes to say. I just hope that if we do pick him, he gets to watch and learn for a bit, then shines.

The one player I would trade up for maybe 2 or 3 spots if available is Josh Allen, DE from Kentucky.

Those two could very well be gone when we pick in the 1st so it's either BPA as usual, or trade back to the middle of the 1st, gaining some extra picks. I know what you are all thinking, LOL.
If Gmen take Haskins
giantstock : 2/22/2019 12:44 pm : link
IMO they need to go after two QUALITY OLinemen.

Then trade up from the 2nd round using other draft picks to the 1st round where they can get a pass rusher or a quality front 7 defensive player.
Haskins

just curious. What are his statement games? Against whom?
