Callaway says the Mets wont carry a second left-hander in the bullpen unless there is a worthy candidate. The manager says he is comfortable enough with Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Famila and Seth Lugo against lefties that an additional left-hander isnt paramount.
On May 9 of last season Cecchini, playing for Triple-A Las Vegas fouled a ball off his right foot and initially thought he had a bone bruise. He was diagnosed with a broken foot and placed in a walking boot. Before he could fully return there was a tear in the foot that ended his season.
Cecchini indicated he was somewhat surprised he cleared waivers and returned to the Mets.
I thought it was 50/50 I would return, just because I knew there were teams out there that would love to have me, Cecchini said. But I thought the timing part of it, when they did it, which was a week before camp reported, most rosters are filled, so I am a firm believer everything happens for a reason and God wants me here at this time.
Are all but out on Harper. Offered over 300 million.. with over 200 deferred. Harper still speaking to the Giants and Phillies with the Padres considering asking for a second meeting with Manny in the room. Phillies want to close this out but but haven't yet. That's the latest from an impeccable source. He's yet to pick his next team though the expectation is Philadelphia with Boras pushing for the highest AAV ever

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the timing on Cecchini wasn't the Mets being dicks (and I know no one said this), but was more to make room for Justin Wilson, who didn't sign until late January.

PJ you aren't wrong. I think he's just "defending" himself being unclaimed aka "its not me, it's the timing". I refuse to give up the ghost on him being a potential big leaguer but 2b only profile is very, very tough and with Cano here.. he probably would have been better off having been claimed

for the Phillies if the Padres outbid them for both Machado and Harper.
Personally, I'd love it. Even better if they follow up by giving $100M to Kimbrel.
How is that more embarrassing for the Phillies than the Mets who didn't even make an offer?
If I'm a Phillies fan I know they tried and I feel like Arrenado or pipe dream Trout could be realistic targets in the future (in the unlikely event Trout hits FA), but as a Mets fan, I'm already crossing those names off my list and starting at the next level down of players.
Apparently is a already on the hot seat with some claiming the Phillies even discussed dumping him earlier this off season. Fully admit like Mickey loved the resume but yeesh

LOL. He's an idiot Dan, long past being any kind of relevant. You should unfollow. I did a purge of my twitter feed and stopped following worthless people and it was really improvement. Best unfollow ever for me was was Frank Isola.
guess is the Rockies lock up Arenado and soon. The owner seemed confident. If not, the favorites have to be the Yankees but you never know, once a player is traded all bets are off.

Not embarrassing in the least bit for Philly IMO.
Philly themselves talked about spending "stupid money" this offseason. You really think it's "not embarrassing in the least bit" if they get outbid by the Padres on both players?
We'll have to disagree on that one. IMO, when you talk a big game and lose two stud players in their prime to the Padres over bidding, it's embarrassing.

Isola is ridiculous. He somehow legit spins ANY story into something anti-Knick. I hope deep down he knows he's trolling and isn't how he is in real life lol

right and I doubt Trout even sniffs free agency, my point was more the fact the Phillies were competitive with these marquee free agents is already less embarrassing than the Mets. Almost like Sandy flippantly saying we don't need Stanton we have Nimmo (even though Nimmo had a breakout year - Sandy meant it tongue in cheek).
We've moved on. As I said back then and we had to. There was no way we could wait around. Bryce, I'm sure will make his decision hopefully in the next few days, but we've filled out our roster and like I said, we wish him nothing but the best."
Before the end of the 2018 season, the Nats presented Harper and his agent Scott Boras a 10-year, $300 million offer to which they declined.
There have been reports that multiple teams have been in on the Harper sweepstakes, most notably the Phillies, Padres and Giants. As far as recent talks with the Nationals? There haven't been any.
"But there's always that, the door's cracked a little bit," Lerner added. "I have no clue at this point what they're up to. We really haven't heard from them in a couple months."
Probably the one place he could not have gone IMO in terms of the Mets chances. I dont think the Phillies are necessarily better than the Mets with Harper although its probably close.
taking a job with the Tampa Rays. Cameron left to go to the Padres last year, and other writers have gotten jobs for teams too.
Reading that site over the past 5 years has been incredibly educational. A rare chance on a free site to get inside the minds of what the cutting edge front office guys in baseball are thinking and how they break down problems and value players.
do NOT deny interest in Harper and the FO will be meeting to discuss "the next move" as an organization. So much for Harper to the Phillies being a done deal with jerseys already delivered.
says prior to Manny committing the Padres had an offer to Harper worth more overall money than the Manny offer. That may include bonuses etc. Imagine they really do land both? Jeez.

Mets continue to be vague on Jed Lowrie's knee injury other than to say it's "not serious." Team officials won't divulge the extent of the injury. Lowrie is here, but hasn't been made available to reporters. Mets clearly want the story to go away.

If he gets paid only during the season he gets taxed at Cal rates. If he gets paid year round while in off season he wont have to pay state income taxes during those months while he is living in Florida
which is not really close to painting an accurate picture and hopefully doesnt get him audited.
Baseball players are all wise to live in texas or florida in the off season so that they can meet the domicile threshold (only real sport that its easy to do so). It also helps that spring training states have tax benefits as well. To say that you do not have to pay income tax for games played in Cali is erroneous. There are ways to construct salary and bonus structure to assist with that though.
I really hope this isn't the Mets new "grand new plan" in dealing with injuries. Being vague only worries the fans more and allows the media to run with things. Hopefully this is just specific to this injury otherwise.. yuck.
