and i try not to kill the mets too much. But when you go out and sign guys in there 30's then you cant be surprised when this stuff happens. I mean for once they at least have some depth, but its frustrating to spend the money on these guys just to watch them regress or play banged up.
He's not a key to anything (yet). If the guy needing the MRI was Robinson Cano, or Michael Conforto, or Brandon Nimmo, or Amed Rosario, or Peter Alonso, or any of the starting pitchers, or Diaz, or Familia, then I'd be more worried.

Cano has been extremely durable over his career but it would be a total Mets thing if his breakdown started this year.
Shecky,
Valencia has maybe the worst reputation in baseball
For knocking out a bitch for talking shit??
First and foremost he's played for 8 teams for a reason.
Blue Jays0"Whats inside a clubhouse and outside a clubhouse so often differs. From the outside, it was easy to indicate the Blue Jays would miss Danny Valencia, the bat lost on waivers to Oakland.
From inside the clubhouse, the opinion is clearly the opposite. Valencia wasnt exactly Mr. Congeniality with Jays players or clubhouse workers."

(Valencia) is not a good dude. Theres a reason the Jays punted his ass out of town. It was one of the happiest days of John Gibbons managerial career, because Danny Valencia got the hell out of town.-Jeff Blair
but not the hardest injury for them to recover from. As great as his year was last year he is a supporting piece. Mcneil or Frazier (or Davis) can play 3B.
The guy who needs to stay healthy and productive is Cano. He needs to be the stabilizer in the middle of the lineup.
And they need to get JDG on board. He's the first guy in the clubhouse to say he wants to be here long term. You can already hear Thor saying he wants to be here long term but also saying he will not take the deals that Nola/Severino just took. If they truly believe these guys give them a shot at a WS they need to put their money where their mouth is and give them some longer term security so they can fully commit to that cause.
injury. Weird that he's throwing underhand and has only been in camp for a little while. He has a history of injuries, so let's hope this is only something really minor/precautionary.
because him being out a couple months wouldn't be a good result. He was signed to be an upgrade and to play. If him missing a few months isn't a big deal, then IMO, the money would've been better spent on another pitcher.
ACL surgery. He can miss a couple months for all I care. I actually want JD Davis, McNeil, etc. to get as many chances as possible early.
Please no ACL though! 🙏
I thought you liked the Lowrie signing?
I do. Love it. But the reason it was great was because it created a lot of depth. Depth we still have. Earlier in a season, I have a no problem watching younger guys get more playing time. It might even be necessary. Depth is unnecessary if everyone stays healthy. Obviously, I dont want to lose Lowrie for the year or anything. I envision him being a grizzled, insanely tough out, in the playoffs or something.

Again.. I seriously doubt Lowries ten million is preventing us from doing anything. If they wanted another 5th starter to compete with Vargas they would sign one. If they dont sign somebody, it will be because they like what Vargas did in the second half last year and likely feel pretty good about him.
That will fucking suck. Reading between the lines with Shecky pushing for Valencia Im just going to assume thats the case for now. We cant even make it to the first god damn ST game without a huge injury.

I hate talkingmeds, so wont but concern for now is its the lingering and it popped. In that case it will linger, and they have the depth. Worse would be a tear and out ~6 weeks again, the depth isnt there, so no biggie. Either situation would be one of those it could linger, or once healed he can deal with it. Lol, I know thats vague, but no one Knows for sure which it is, just the educated guesses for now. Either way, I dont see him playing in Sundsys game...

So wait.. a tear and hes only out 6 weeks? Wouldnt a tear mean surgery? If he just popped something and its sore... no big deal.
just do the surgery now & clean it up as best they can for long haul
stretch out either Lugo or Gsellmen this spring and that they'll exclusively be relievers.
If this is really the case, the Mets options if they need a spot start are awful.
Spot starts do probably end up going to Dowdy, Lockett, Flexen, and Oswalt but if it were something more long term, Im betting Gsellman or Lugo could transition back. BVW mentioned them as SP depth not much more than a week ago.
Usually teams report the results of these things the same day.
They flew him all the way to NY to get the MRI which is so annoying. He could have probably had one done at 50 places in port St. Lucie. In fact, dont the Mets rehab players there? Why dont they have one there anyway?
One thing the Mets have this year is depth.
20 million could have been better spent on Gio or another bullpen arm

Agreed. Hope I am wrong but I feel like Brody is the type to make moves just to appease fan demands.

At the rate they normally run operations, they wont have any depth in 2 weeks

Just need to hope the team takes it's injury lumps early and this is the worst of it.
.......but you know it won't be.
Valencia. I want to see negative quotes from someone in the trenches with the kid. That ships sailed anyway lol

Dans on the right track, unfortunately

did they give him a physical?
I know knee injuries can happen without contact (and baseball obviously isn't a contact sport) but this seems so Mets like.

My thought as well pj. I am thinking this is something that was lingering with him.

Hes saying he didnt feel anything until he started to speed things up in preparation for the season but who knows.

I don't get this.
Isn't Callaway alwasy preaching about relievers versatility and pitchers who can throw multiple innings or start games in a pinch?
Jesus this team is always a walking contradiction.
Sore shoulder. They are only allowing him to throw underhand at the moment. He nor the team is concerned.

No others deaths at this point, but more are expected to come.

Some random guy on twitter, not my doing, though I laughed too.
Brodie Van Wagenen said on @wcbs880 that Jed Lowries MRI revealed no significant damage, and theyll bring him along slowly. #Mets
Awesome!
