Heading there this weekend to visit with my son before his next deployment. He wants a good steak dinner. Suggestions? Plus other things to do there. Thx.
but, it's a bit if a drive. Equally good and less travel is the "Great American Land and Cattle Company" on Alabama Street. The place has been great for a long time... When I lived in El Paso, back in 1982, I literally bumped into Chuck Norris here.
many of years at Bliss and WSMR in my opinion the double eagle has the best steak in the south west its a little bit of a drive from El Paso but its worth it.
Cattleman’s, it’s definitely an experience. I remember eating a giant steak and then walking it off checking out the surrounding complex which includes a lake, a zoo (with a rattlesnake pit), and a fake old western village. I believe they filmed a bunch of movies there. It’s like 20 miles outside of El Paso.
My wife has family there so I’ve visited a few times. In my experiences, it’s not the most “happening” place in the world but we also never get the chance to explore all that much.
Cattleman's is probably the best steakhouse in the area but it is a drive to get there. (Roughly I-10 mile marker 39 at the Fabens exit and then another 10 miles east from there on a two lane road.)
The best alternatives are the Great American restaurants mentioned earlier, there are several locations in town. The Alabama Street location is the original one in northeast El Paso, and others on the west side, another two on the east side, and another north of town (in Anthony) just off of I-10.
While El Paso is in Texas, imho steaks are not what El Paso does best. It is more of a Mexican / Tex-Mex type with a huge selection of great places.
Which is about 45 minutes away from El Paso. Cattleman’s is quite an experience that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime if they are in the area. It’s a bit of a drive to get to but it’s worth it.
If you’re craving some amazing Mexican food, head to Chopes in La Mesa. Not too far of a drive from El Paso. Tom Landry used to fly into El Paso just to eat there from what the locals told us.
Cattleman's is a little kitschy but still quite good... Â
out of the ordinary in El Paso, they do have a drive-in porno movie theater. For years I did cross-country adventure tour trips composed primarily of 19-yr-old European au-pairs, and whenever we'd pass through El Paso and hit the Fiesta Drive-In with the van bench seats on top of the roof rack, it never failed to be a hit.

Enjoy your time here!
