NFT: NHL Trade Deadline Thread - Leafs Inquire about Kreider

pjcas18 : 2/21/2019 1:09 pm
Just thought I'd start a new thread for the deadline which is 4 days away: Monday 2/25 at 3pm.

First off, the Rangers are heavily shopping Zuccarello, Hayes and McQuaid, but teams are asking about Kreider.

The Leafs have shown the most interest so far, but the Bruins and Predators have also shown interest.

Gorton will allegedly not move Kreider unless it's an offer "he can't refuse". Kreider finally showing the true 200 foot game I thought he'd show is not someone I'd trade at this point.

The most common names expected to be moved are:

Mark Stone (OTT)
Matt Duchene (OTT)
Artemi Panarin (CBJ)
Jesse Puljujarvi (EDM)
Ilya Kovalchuk (LAK)

and more.

I'll keep this thread updated with news and rumors as it comes out and I welcome others too as well.

Capitals acquire defenseman Nick Jensen and a 2019 fifth-round pick (originally from Buffalo) from the Red Wings for defenseman Madison Bowey and a 2020 second-round pick. #ALLCAPS

on the 2020 first round pick? If he doesn't resign is there no pick or does it just get downgraded to a lesser round?

I like that model of 1 first for the rental, another if he signs long term. I'd have no issues with Isles doing something similar for Stone (or Panarin if CBJ is still listening).

@NYP_Brooksie

At least as of this morning, Tolvanen is not available in exchange for a rental. If Rangers want him, it will cost Kreider. Predators apparently not in on Hayes, have interest in Zuccarello, as do Flames, Penguins, others.

There is disappointment in talking with teams this morning in terms of rentals available on D. Mild interest in @NYRangers Adam McQuaid price is a 3rd Teams turning to non rentals like @LAKings Alec Martinez, 2 yrs left. Prices are not cheap. Keep an eye on #Brodin @NHLNetwork

Not sure of the general consensus, but I think Duch trade was light
Eric on Li : 2/23/2019 10:18 am : link
If he's just a rental, it's 2 c level prospects and a first round pick. Forget elite prospects, neither of the guys they dealt was seemingly on any of the top 50-100 lists - but I'm far from an expert on them.

The Isles had like 5 guys on Pronman's list and 3 first rd pick forwards at BPT who are all dealable with (MDC/JHS/Bellows) so I'm personally hoping they are able to get Stone or Panarin for a similar style offer to the one that landed Duchene (2019 first + conditional 2020 first based on resigning).
Im very surprised
Jay on the Island : 2/23/2019 10:18 am : link
The Devils received a 3rd for Lovejoy. I was expecting a 6th. Shero has done a very good job acquiring a 3rd for Lovejoy and a 2nd for Boyle. He has me hopeful that they will receive a 1st for Johansson who was just scratched on Thursday so a trade could be near.
Zucc not in lineup today?

I think it was light based on the reported ask, and the lack of quality C's available.

but at the end of the day, Duchene will not be in OTT next year, so it's better than nothing.

Yea I don't think Ottawa did badly - especially if they chose the destination wise enough to get the 2nd first round pick. That's the key. It doesn't matter so much to them which team retains him going forward, but getting that extra first would be huge.

Overall it was a fairly normal rental price, probably slightly less than the Karlsson deal which is to be expected midseason - I guess I'm just a little surprised the top teams in the west didn't beat the offer. If the Isles don't do end up doing something significant I'll be surprised they didn't beat that offer.
Hayes and McQuaid

also held out today. makes sense even if they don't ultimately get moved.
Shit, this would be poetic
pjcas18 : 2/23/2019 12:10 pm : link
justice to me, if the Habs trade for Hayes as much as I've criticized him over the years. I don't want Hayes, Zucc or McQuaid on the Canadiens. They're not a contender or a Hayes, Zucc, or McQuaid away from being one.

Trading valuable prospect assets or picks for any of them would be inappropriate.

Johansson would be different but I wouldn't give up much for him either.

Who are the top prospects on the Habs? Obviously Kotkaniemi is #1 and he's not going anywhere. Same with Domi.

Mete? Meh. We have our version of him in DeAngelo.

Is Ryan Poehling your #1 prospect who's not in the NHL?

Lots of traction on Marcus Johansson, who will be held out of lineup again for NJ for trade deadline reasons

Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) February 23, 2019

I'm confident that the Devils will get a 1st round pick in return. I was hoping the Devils would get another 1st in order to draft G Spencer Knight.
just in the numbers game I think it's hard to see a 1st for Johansson
Eric on Li : 2/23/2019 7:33 pm : link
the last few years I think I read the the most first rounders dealt around the deadline in a single year were 6 or 7, so while that's not a hard and fast number it's a decent guide. Duchene and Muzzin ate up 2 of those. With Hayes, Dzingel, and Zuccarello also being held out and almost definitely traded, the numbers start getting tight. If Stone, Nyquist, Simmonds, Ferland, or Panarin end up getting moved it gets even tighter.

And this market may be tight to being with since EK and ROR cost 2 playoff contenders first round pick before the season started and Montreal has already said they aren't dealing their pick despite being in contention.

CLB/OTT deal is Dzingel and Calgary7th (OTT owns) in 2019 for 2 2nds and Anthony Duclair

I've gotta think they are loading up to hedge against dealing off Panarin to recoup some of these assets and retool on the fly. Or they are really rolling the dice.

If the Devils don't get a 1st then I would still be happy with two 2nd's. I consider Johansson a better player than Dzingel so hopefully the return will be at least the same.

not sure what the conditions are. Seems like the tier 2 guys are going for multiple non firsts.

Given that return and Dzingel, I'd guess Hayes/Stone/Panarin are the only guys who would bring back firsts of the remaining names on the market.

arcarsenal : 2/23/2019 8:14 pm : link

Okay, so the 3 becomes a 1 if DAL re-signs Zuccarello and the 2 becomes a 1 if DAL wins 2 playoff rounds.

So, the conditions can make the haul a lot better... but neither of those things are certainties and if neither of those things happen, this is a really shitty coup

it's a 2019 2nd and 2020 3rd.

Zucc's been really good this yr, especially lately, and mid-round picks are only long shots anyway. I don't know /why/ DAL thinks they're a contender but they paid a good price for a good rental.
