This will be unpopular with some, but I do not expect NYG to draft a QB early this year.
I expect Eli will remain the incumbent starter. My money is on Case Keenum being Eli's backup this year.
The Broncos have to cut Keenum, they aren't having both Keenum ($21m) and Flacco ($18.5m) on the cap and no-one is trading for Keenum. Keenum knows Shurmur's system and he has a change to rebuild his value. He adds veteran experience and could step up should Eli falter during the season. Keenum is 31 and could be a bridge to a future drafted QB. Plus side for NYG (should we sign him) is we can pay him vet minimum and the Broncos pay the balance of his $7m guaranteed salary for 2019.
Lauletta needs time to develop, particularly given his position and the level of college he played, but I do think we bring in competetion in training camp. I could see us adding a late round or undrafted rookie QB such as Kyle Shurmur or perhaps even trading a day 3 pick for Kyle Sloter from the Vikings.
I wouldn't be surprised if this years QB depth chart looked something like:
1. Eli Manning
2. Case Keenum
3. Kyle Lauletta/ Kyle Sloter/ Kyle Shurmur
Keenum would be a veteran back up behind Eli. Not unlike what we did with David Carr. This essentially upgrades over Alex Tanney.
The key is that I expect we could get Keenum cheaply (vet minimum).
Perhaps not, but there are a number of other similar range prospects in that range that could compete such as Jake Browning, Trace McSorley or Tyree Jackson. I just used Kyle Shurmur as an example. I just liked the idea of the Kyles.
Technically it would be Gettleman doing any drafting or signing though.
Keenum has $7m guaranteed from the Broncos for 2019, that is what he will get paid, I don't see Keenum getting more given Brigewater got $6m last year.
A team could sign Keenum to vet minimum and the Broncos would pick up the balance of his $7m that is guaranteed for 2019.
Keenum has had one quality season which was under Shurmur in Minnesota. I don't see a team giving Keenum a starting job which is what he got with Denver.
The Giants are a good option for Keenum imho. He knows Shurmur's system and has had success. He gets to work with OBJ, Barkley, Engram etc and potentially position himself as a bridging QB after Eli, who is off the books after 2019.

to do what Eli can do already? And why would they both be rostered?

vet min is like 1 million. No way Keenum signs a deal for that

Keenum is guaranteed $7m by the Broncos
so if he signed for vet minimum, his new team pays say $1m and the Denver Broncos pay $6m.
If his new team signed him for $3m, the Broncos would be on the hook for $4m.
Either way Keenum gets $7m
...until Eli's replacement is found and the rest of the team can rally round that new QB.
But ugh, if we have another season without the quarterback question resolved.
Unless you believe the Giants can win another championship before Eli is done, where are they going?
I m hoping that Haskins is the guy, and I mean the “right” guy, but we shall see.
For those not familiar with the site, click the red 'X' at the end of the 2019 row for details about release and/or trading costs.

For what? Why would the Giants pay him when they are already paying 20 million to a guy who can do what he does? If not a bit better.
So I dont know how signing him for this season BEHIND Eli makes much sense for him trying to re-establish his value so he can get paid the next year when he has to look for work.

*Broncos wont be picking up a dime.
With Eli as the starter for 2019, the depth chart will remain the same. I don't expect Haskins to be there at 6, and I don't expect that Haskins is such a can't miss prospect that would compel Dave into trading up. If Jones slips past the Pats in round 1, then he might be taken by Dave in the 2nd. We aren't going to be burning any late round picks taking QB projects. Our project is Kyle. There aren't enough reps to run a QB camp.

That won’t fly"
Chris Snee says hi.
Now, granted, CS was a much better prospect, but never say never (queue great sax riff for those few who know the reference)
Is that question for me? If so, I don't think so. While Haskins is likely the highest rated QB out of all the others in this class, I don't see him carrying a higher grade than the other players that will be available.
If Keenum is cut, the Bronco's are responsible for 7M, and that has nothing to do with any other team that goes after him.......
Big_Pete, any team looking for his services, can forget about that 7M counting towards their offer.....and you are not not going to get him for vet min, not even close....
Don't you want your backup - at ANY position - to be able to do what the starter can do? Would you prefer a QB with a completely different skill set that would require a total shift in offensive philosophy if the backup has to play?
I can see wanting a different skill set out of the QB position in general (more mobility, for example), but if you're committed to Eli and/or believe that he possesses the requisite skills to run Shurmur's offense exactly how PS wants it, why wouldn't you want your backup QB to also possess those same skills?
