NFT: Yankees Spring Training - GMS Field

Going to the Pirates spring training game next Thursday - first time there - any suggestions?

Heard parking is $10 across the field - but as far as sitting sections (going with 2 year old daughter) is it safe sitting down 3rd base side? Maybe 1st base side is better?

Also, what time or when is batting practice? Autograph opportunities? Any information is appreciated.
I suggest you take some epic pics

And I've been to every opening day at GMS Field (former Legend's Field) since it opened in '96.

As far as safety goes, it no longer matters (1st base or 3rd base side) because they have the nets up, just like in the MLB parks.

If you want to avoid the sun (which can get brutal at times) then buy reserve seats (not lower level box) on the 1st base side or high up behind HP.

Autographs are tough to get at the stadium, but your best bet is outside the stadium at one of the practice fields before the game. Just look for a small crowd of people waiting at a fence.

I've never tried to get there early enough to see batting practice, but if it's anything like a regular season game they may not open the stadium early enough to see the Yanks take BP, as the home team usually goes first. But again, you can get there early and check out the side (practice) fields for a very up-close BP view. Most of the time it will be rookies, but often if a vet is not playing in the game they'll take BP on one of the side fields before the game.

Hope you and your daughter enjoy the game!
Thanks Jim!

.
I don't know if they still do this for BP

But, when I went a few years back, the Yankees take BP outside the stadium on a practice field accessible to the public. This is the same field where players will exit to stretch, run, etc. after they've left the game and the where you are most likely to get autographs. Keep an eye out for lingering players, coaches, and former players after BP. It is an awesome opportunity to actually speak to them. On separate days, we spoke at length with Jose Cardinal and Goose Gossage.

The visiting team takes their BP at the same time in the ballpark.
