Moving into a new home so now is as good a time as any to look into breaking free from FiOS. We don’t watch much TV outside of children’s programming, HGTV, NFL, and Survivor. We purchase movies as well.
Is it really possible to save money if we keep the phone line and Internet? If it makes sense, what should we be looking into?
I have amazon prime, netflix, and hulu and it's still costs way less then having cable and more content than I could ever watch.
Hulu with live TV has almost everything your normal cable will have, and only costs I think around 40 per month.
Just make sure you have a strong internet connection and be prepared for a more complicated process with the remote, but it's not too bad. I'm glad we did it
For live TV channels, look into Sling TV, YouTube TV, and Hulu Live TV. (Maybe an HD antennae, based on where you live.)
Then get HBO NOW, Netflix, and if you have Amazon Prime, you'll have a Prime Video login.
Unless you're a sports geek who needs to waste half your life watching live sporting events, it's the way to go. And if you watch a lot of sports, there are packages the streaming services offer.
Live TV is the worst in terms of jacking costs up. I'd look at an HD antenna instead to get the locals.
Also, the biggest mistake people make IMO is getting married to subscriptions.
You can save a lot more if you initiate and cancel subscriptions based on what you want to watch.
I pay about $150 per month for internet and cable (with HBO and Showtime). I then pay for Netflix. To me, saving $30 or $40 per month isn’t worth it. I will probably look into it once Disney’s service comes out since having cable is a large benefit with kids and another reason why I’m sticking with cable for now.
I currently have Hulu Live TV, and YES is on it.
Nope. I got rid of cable and got it back about a year later for almost half the price. Didn't enjoy Hulu and all of that shit. Much easier this way.

Yeah I think it only makes sense now if my 1 or 2 year cable promotions end and my bill gets jacked up. But it just happened and only went up $18 so it’s basically negligible. My bill will go from $147 to $165 - still not worth the hassle at that price. If it ballooned up to $225 then I’d consider it.
There are many options around this. I'm not within the NY network but I've got a pretty good solution. Email me imthatguybbi@gmail
A VPN ($50/year) and basic cable will legally get you every Giants game except for CBS broadcasts. However, you can get CBS All Access ($6/month, maybe 2 months needed depending on when games are scheduled) and use the VPN to watch the games.

Can you be specific about the required setup? Thanks in advance.

You get a VPN program like Torguard, that's what I use, and log in with a NJ or NY location. From there, all you do is go to the Fox sports website and stream the game from the website. All the VPN is is a simple program that makes your IP address anonymous and provides added security to your web browsing (plus the added benefit of Giants games!). This also works with NHL center ice streaming (I log in to a VPN in Canada and can then stream all nationally broadcasted Rangers games that would normally be blacked out) and it would work the same for CBS All Access. The VPN service is only $50-$60 a year. Torguard even includes a secure email account with their VPN service. The whole process is super easy.
This post makes no sensr. A VPN is a simple program. There is no hassle at all.
