he was an excellent player in 2015 in Bettcher's creation of the hybrid LB/S role and since (and particularly since JBs departure), he has been rather ordinary
can anybody offer a better summary or commentary about DB?
The risk with signing him to a big contract are very obvious - 1) What if betcher doesn't survive and this regime implodes 2) his performance has dropped off.
On a team friendly deal for say 2 years that's a strong signing. On a 4 year deal I would argue against it, unless the end of the contract was easily escapable without a lot of dead money.

That's borderline starter $ and they have to feel he will compete with Pio for the Center job and must be a consideration for backup IOL if that's the case. However, I doubt all of that is guaranteed.
There are 21 Cs making >$3M per year. Throw in guys on their rookie deals (any C drafted outside the 1st is making <$3M/year) and you're talking very low end starter or backup C money. It's slightly more than Brett Jones (comparable player) signed for last year and just about Wisniewski's $2.6M (backup G/C for Eagles) which he signed for back in 2017.
I started to believe Bucanan would be a likely target. He does what Collins can in the box in terms of coverage, and plays LB in Bettcher's 3-4. He fits the hybrid/swiss army knife type Defender Bettcher wants. Plus, bet he comes in cheaper than the franchise tag would have been for Collins.

Somehow I bet it was structured so the cap hit this year is lower than 3.2 mil. Also cutting him a year later probably wont carry alot of dead money.

No disagreement. I think we are saying the same thing.

Im curious to see if they will lower Kevin Zeitlers bass salary down to the guaranteed money hes due, which is around $3.5M. And I remain curious to see if they do anything with Eli Mannings number.
To what purpose? And why would he agree? He has a contract.

Why would he guarantee? Because it pays him upfront rather than per game. It's unlikely to reduce his money in any way.
Why would the team do it? Extra cap space to sign some additional FAs.

Ivan - teams do this all of the time. The player gets paid the same money, but up front as a "Bonus". This will spread the money for this year over 3 years given the team more money for this years cap. No harm to the player.

Flooded with Safeties. Wow.
Hopefully, supply/demand brings the price tag down for some of these guys
is banged up a lot and really not any good. Be wary of tandem guys who come off as options looking better only because they play alongside a stud (Harrison Smith as example).

Some very good CBs in MN too. Sendejo's more like a poor man's Collins anyway. Not particularly good in coverage.

#Buccaneers LB Kwon Alexander texted a group of his Tampa teammates a short while ago telling them he's going to miss them, source says. We'll see where he winds up but he's obviously not expecting it to be Tampa. Deal expected to be in the $12m/$13m per year range.

I like Kwon Alexander...a lot, despite the injury, but 12M/13M for a guy coming off an ACL tear? Will he even be ready for camp?

Teams have ALOT of money to burn. Its gonna drive prices up especially in the first wave. Its why last year (from what I remember) we only really struck once for a critical position (LT) and then waited for wave 2 and 3 before striking again in FA.
This year it might be the ER and maybe a RT then strike in wave 2 or 3 for the other guys.

I think it is 3ys $30 mil, $10 mil a season. If the bulk is guaranteed then that is a big deal.

Remmers is a very interesting name. Looks like he actually beat out Daryl Williams at RT for Williams' first two seasons.
