And by the way...if Josh Rosen is traded his total cap hit for the next three years is like $6M or $7M. You're telling me Foles at that cost is a better option? No way.

I'm far from a Foles fan, but Jax has to see their window is now. Rosen has yet to show he's capable of being an NFL starter. That team will probably be on the decline by the time Rosen is ready to win a Super Bowl.
He hasn’t been good as a starter. (Except that 1 yr with Shurmur). The money is nuts. Rosen at his cap hit is so much better as an option it’s laughable!
It's not like it's a surprise, is it?
The writing has been on the wall for Bortles since the middle of last season. Not sure if there is even a trade market for him.
It makes it unlikely that the Jax will try to jump the Giants to get Haskins. We should be able to get either him or Murray if we want a QB. My bet is still on an edge rusher, either Sweat or Josh Allen.
That's plausible, and I think the hate is due to the putrid green barf bag he was wearing until today. He's got a ring, and he led the team there, so he's not terrible but he's so mercurial it's hard to count on him. I personally like his play but I'm not very stable.
New England and Philly are the big winners today Â
Loading up on cap space relative to today's active teams and comp picks (Philly didn't impact their formula by signing Malik Jackson, who had already been cut).
Knows more about football then this entire organization, he signed a QB that will get this team to the playoffs, that is what he just did. The window is wide open, only in your brain it isn't.

So I guess we will just overlook the fact that he gave Blake Bortles a 3 year 54 million dollar contract 13 months ago.

Too bad he wasted a season thinking Blake Bortles could get his team to the playoffs.

And saddled them with a $16.5 million dead cap hit when they cut Bortles.
...who does really good for a short period of time....then if he has to play any significant time, you get the better read on him. And his weaknesses appear.
He's better than Bortles, but that's a heavy price.........
But he’s an option for the RPO ala madden and college. Thank Fuckin God as all that is holy that Jax signed his over rated ass. Eli needs to go at 23 million but 21 million of which God k owe how much is guaranteed is a good deal for a stop gap short term solution of which no one k Les whatguy shows up.

And yet some here think we could land him for a 3rd or some other ridiculous offer.
there was a near consensus he was going to get paid:

several on BBI said he wouldn't make that much money. Now, who will own up to it?
That's why having him replace Eli was a folly. He was going to make more than Eli with not much upside.
Oh I know that...along with many of us on previous threads. We kept insisting he wasn't a viable option to take over for Eli. We didn't see how it was possible and said he would be too expensive...and then this happened.

The operating premise is that 30-year-old Nick Foles will be more productive than 38-year-old Eli Manning, and then likely exponentially moreso from there. And when Manning is good and retired from the NFL in a few years -- his contract won't be so expensive.
There's no guarantee -- but not that farfetched -- and definitely upside.
time and again that paying a mediocre veteran QB a lot of money as a FA rarely ends up favorably.
But not surprisingly, rationalizing it being a good move happens here.
With the prerequisite slight to Eli as part of it.
Contrarian thinking fails here
Where in the pecking order of NFL quarterbacks do you rank Manning for the 2019 season? Where do you project him to be in the subsequent seasons of Foles's contract?
The collective amnesia over Foles was disturbing. Â

The question is if Foles is worth paying that money to be the starting QB. Period.
If he were Aaron Rodgers, then it is part of the discussion, but even then, the model of paying a QB a lot of money isn't favorable in today's NFL. It's why we would likely be better off without Eli taking up that cap space. Foles taking it up isn't any more favorable.

How do you define upside then?
I completely agree Manning isn't worth the resource allocation. But how is it a knock on Manning that a (8 year) younger QB who's had consecutive playoff winning seasons has more upside?
I don't think Manning or Foles is worth 23M+ dollars a year. I think Manning is a bottom third QB, and Foles just ahead of that. But Foles will actually be in the NFL in 2 years, and is a wiser investment.
But those of course are different arguments -- value of resource allocation and upside.
RE: RE: I hope he has a solid year and leads them to the playoffs. Â
The guy won a Super Bowl for the fucking Eagles. And you don’t understand the hate? Are you insane?
I can hate the uniform without hating the individual - the guy deserves to start in the league and the contract he got is about the going rate for veteran QBs with some good football on their resumes. Some of Foles' harshest critics on here will make excuse after excuse for the shitty play of our own $20+ million QB.
$88M for a QB that when tapped on the shoulder... Â
but the hate generated by the insecurity of the Eli loyalists who act like Nick Foles is Alex Tanney just because a few people had the audacity to suggest he might be a better option than Eli at this point.

Is Foles a wiser investment than riding Eli out one last year? I don't think so.
again - throwing money at a mediocre QB is foolish. People point to leading the Eagles to the playoffs two years, but he really only played the last quarter of the season two years ago - winning the SB and then last year started out so poorly Wentz was rushed back into action. Then he came in and the team went to the playoffs - with average QB play.
It really doesn't matter how long Eli will play or if Foles will still be in the league two years from now. He'll be in the league as an overprice average QB - the exact same things people say kills the Giants. But now it is a wiser investment?
Foles is not top 10 but he's average, so he's slotted above the mean but not egregiously though.

They have issues with Fournette and the D will need to regain their form. They are much more likely the 2016 Giants than they are a contender.

Whew
There are a lot of really stupid teams in this league.

There's always a sucker team that overpays. That doesn't mean he's actually worth that money.

Neither was Cousins or Keenum. None of us said he was worth it, but knew based on history what he'd probably get.

I am with J. There were a number of geniuses whose grand plan was to sign Foles to team-friendly deal. It was absurd.
