CJ Mosley to the Jets

Big Rick in FL : 3/12/2019 6:17 am
5 year 85 million with 51 million guaranteed. In 3 years the Jets will be where we've been at the last 2 years.
The jets haven't spent money in years.
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/12/2019 6:19 am : link
You can't just do everything through the draft.
Jets still front runner for Bell
ZogZerg : 3/12/2019 6:22 am : link
Yup, they'll cap strapped in a year or so.
17 million per year for a MLB - non pass rusher
ZogZerg : 3/12/2019 6:22 am : link
But, he is a really good player.
So if the Jets draft that big DT from Alabama
ZogZerg : 3/12/2019 6:27 am : link
The middle of their D will be scary.
They already have the stud safeties in place as well.
And they are reportedly signing...
M.S. : 3/12/2019 6:40 am : link

...Anthony Barr!

I suppose there might be a few who want to piss on these signings, but the Jets LBer corp now makes the Giants' unit look something like a weak Division III College.

Mosley is really good. Anthony Barr is ehh. No clue why he is so overrated. Never had more then 75 tackles. Never had more then 4 sacks. 1 career INT. Only 7 career forced fumbles.

This isn't the be-all-to-end-all, but Anthony Barr is rated the #6 Free Agent by NFL.com.
No clue how
Big Rick in FL : 3/12/2019 6:55 am : link
One of the most overrated players in the league IMO and the numbers back that up. He'll be cut within 3 years.
Anthony Barr was a OLB in a 3-4 at UCLA
Rjanyg : 3/12/2019 7:41 am : link
He was playing in Minnesota’s 3-4, like a SAM LB but mor off the ball.

I find it funny that he stays in the 4-3 with the Jets especially since they were a 3-4 team just last year.

Barr and Mosley are good, and I think they just signed Williamson last year. Lots of $ tied up in LB’s.
Love the Mosley signing
Rflairr : 3/12/2019 8:06 am : link
Not sure about Barr. It’s like all of sudden he started getting burned in coverage.
Must be nice

Having your franchise QB on a cost controlled deal
They still need a lot of help on offense
crackerjack465 : 3/12/2019 8:45 am : link
but that defense is looking nice for the Jets.

Unless he turns out not to be a a franchise QB. Time will tell.
Damn ...

Hopefully this doesn't mean there is a new sheriff in town.

The transition started last off season.
This signing suggests that Jets are staying base 3-4
Bob in Newburgh : 3/12/2019 10:13 am : link
Neither Mosley or Williamson project outside, and Williamson satisfied expectations last year and would be financially difficult to cut.

Perhaps, they will attempt to make Lee, with his phenom speed and quickness, into a Will/Rover in 3-4.

Unless they are parting ways with Lee (is possible), I believe Barr is no longer a target.
This is a direct quote from Gregg Williams
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/12/2019 11:01 am : link
"The reason being is this, I have 42 words that add up to the 11 that trot out to the field. You guys that have studied me before, we’ll play 4-3 and 3-4 in the same game. 3-3, 3-2, 4-1, 4-2, bear, big on five down, big on six down, big on more linebackers, little on more DB’s. I have 42 packages of defense"

I haven't seen anything that says Barr is out now - all indications are that they're still signing him as well.
If the Barr signing is real
Bob in Newburgh : 3/12/2019 11:20 am : link
Lee is probably out then. Not sure he ever matured mentally.

Jenkins has a final relatively inexpensive year, and is a solid MIKE with size, strength and technique. Just lacks a touch of speed to be an elite pass rusher, although he has improved over the years to be considered good.
