Is wait out the crazy wave here and bring in a bunch of cheaper JAGs on short deals while we look to draft their long term replacements over the next 2 years. It sucks to hear, but DGs gonna be dumpster diving for scraps.
The only big name FA I think who is in play is the Carolina RT.
RE: I give Gettleman credit for sitting this lunacy out
Mike Mitchell played well last year and should be cheap. He played for DG in Carolina and PFF graded him out really well last year. Antoine Bethea didn't play great in AZ but he still made like 100 tackles. Clinton-Dix, Tre Boston, and Pierre Desir are likely going to be more expensive but they are still out there. Mike Adams and Kurt Coleman both out there as well.
Daryl Williams is still the most desirable player out there IMO. OL tend to be safer investments, he's young, DG has familiarity, the injury and fact that he's a RT should keep him from getting the crazy money.
and we aren't actually interested. Decent player when healthy, but that's getting rarer. Definitely not worth $6M+ per season unless its a 1 year deal.
And I agree with those saying DG is smart to sit this out. Very few contracts that I've seen so far that aren't significant overpays. I like the Flowers for $16-17M per, but not much beyond that.
The good thing about Z Smith and these other deals for edge rushers is that the price tag for DeMarcus Lawrence keeps rising.
And they've done so in a big way. Have to say I'm ecstatic at their moves...that cap room that they sat on last season had to be used eventually. I'm just glad they're going about things the right way. Young, hungry players totally in their primes. That will give you great value throughout the full extent of their contracts
Jets trying to fill every hole with top end free agency feels like a disaster waiting to happen; at least for their sake Darnold will be cheap for the next 3 years so a lot of these big money contracts can play out their guaranteed portion prior to them needing to pay the QB so that when that time comes they can be released.
We've sat on that cap room for a while, we had to do something. Good players are out there, the exact players you need to upgrade your team...you need to sign them. If they end up injury plagued or not giving you the effort or performance you expect due to complacency then so be it, but Barr and Mosley are top talents, 8 pro bowls between them...I have faith they'll keep up their high level of play
To two linebackers who arent pass rushers and of course fanofthejets returns to tell us how great the Jets are. Why are you on this site?
Did you watch Barr at UCLA? He can absolutely rush the passer. Besides Barr fits in very well with a Gregg Williams defense because of his overall versatility. The move makes all the sense in the world
This really improved our defense. But you'd better improve the defense with all the cap space we've hoarded for a while.

Its easy to hoard cap space when you dont have a franchise QB and you draft poorly and rarely re-sign your draft picks. The signings of Barr and Mosley have proven that the Jets missed again on Darron Lee.
I wouldn't expect us to do much of anything until the teams with GMs on the hotseat and contender's plugging holes punch themselves out.
If the plan is to protect the pick I'd expect they sign Remmers for RT; cut players don't count in the formula irregardless of how much you spend for them.
They are different than us as they have their Franchise QB still in his prime and they have WR's, TE and a decent Oline.. Defensively they needed a lot of help and now can really get after the QB.

Crowder signing doesn't reflect well on Enunwa either. Gave him a lot of money last season (4 yrs/$36M) to basically fill the slot WR role Crowder will not play. Though it's a massively backloaded deal and I wouldn't be surprised if they cut him next offseason.

Rodgers is only like 2 years younger than Eli. He was in the draft after Eli.

You've drafted even worse though. But yes you're right. Lee has been meh. Wouldn't call him bad but somebody who has under performed and someone gregg williams apparently has no use for

Agreed. That would make players like Remmers, Sendejo, etc more likely targets. I think its becoming more obvious that the Giants rumored interest in Fromm is true. If they are targeting Fromm then saving cap room for next year makes sense while accumulating assets in order to trade up if necessary.

I believe there is also a limit on what cancels out what so that a 7th Round comp can't undo a 3rd.
Jwaun James set the new high AAV for RT at 12.7m, hopefully Williams

Up until last year they did draft poorly which is why the roster is riddled with holes but the Giants two superstars in Barkley and Beckham.
Will the Thrill Hill is available. IDK who they are going to wind up with, at this point. The Packers spending on free agency, that is interesting. That is a wind of change for them, philosophically.

That's actually not a bad deal for the Pack. Maybe a slight overpay, as is expected in FA, but not crazy like some of these other deals.

Beckham and Barkley got you 5-11 last year. Our teams both have holes but I'd take our future over yours
RE: RE: RE: If the plan is to protect LC's comp pick
I believe there is also a limit on what cancels out what so that a 7th Round comp can't undo a 3rd.
Thats true to a degree, but you can't sign more players in quantity than you lost. So a 7th round guy by himself won't cancel out a 3rd for Landon, but if the Giants sign 5 guys who comp out at 7th round level and only lose say 4 guys (Landon, Wynn, Lattimer & Brown) then they will lose the 3rd round pick. The more signing off cut guys they can do the better since they quality of the players they lost are so low they likely wont have a large number of qualified free agents lost.

I wouldn't get too attached to Beckham, and frankly dealing him may net a return that the Giants can really build around and fill a ton of holes with. Especially on D

I think a more glaring decision is not restructuring Zeitler or extending Eli. Those are clear cap saving moves this year to free up $$$.
I just say punt this FA roll that $$$ over to next year when Eli comes off and go for it then.
Thats one hell of a front 4
For all his yapping the guy is a monster. Plays with a motor that never stops. Max effort at all times unlike what Mo Wilkerson turned into

Good, I am not a fan. Inconsistant
Barr can rush the passer. He's a better fit in a 3-4.
Im betting on them returning to the playoffs next year.
Quote:
stays with the Saints, semi-surprised.
They see him every day in practice. So maybe SP sees something there.
I was actually more surprised he decided to stay where he has "no chance" of starting barring injury. A lot of people were saying Miami.
Because he's been playing in a 4-3, which limits his pass rushing. In a 3-4, he should double that, at least.

Well, shit

1 DE via semi big ticket purchase via FA
2 mid tier safety via FA
3 Buchanon via FA
paving the way for
Haskins in RD1
RT be it Risner or McGary in RD2
Remainder of the draft being defense heavy
